Apparently, Marvel made a swimsuit issue this summer. I only just read it, and it's fucking dogshit. Actually abysmal. I'm going to storytime ALL of the old Swimsuit issues just to show you punks how a swimsuit issue should be done.I won't include any of the ads or other in-between fluff, because the pin-ups alone are going to take me several hours to do, but those are my favorite parts. If you want to read them, go find a copy of Marvel Illustrated and the following Swimsuit Specials online.
>>154753273You think storm has white pubes too? Fuck I wish I could see.
>>154753280Her eyebrows are black, so toss a coin.
I didn't skip any pages, I just messed up on the naming here because MJ had a double-page spread.
That's it for Marvel Illustrated. From here on out, everything is from an actual swimsuit special.
Had to take a piss. Now that I've pissed and am no longer pissed, it's time to continue.
Bump if you're reading. I can't do it myself for some reason.

>>154753680I whacked off so much to this pic back when I was 12
>>154754008Didn't we all
>>154754008>>154753573This one too.
>>154754039This art style seems counter productive to a sexy pinup.
>>154754119Yeah, it looks traced. Like all those dogshit 2000s interiors. Thankfully no other pin-up here uses that style
>>154754121What a fucking slut aunt may is, showing off her ankles like that.
Third issue falls off hard. Even the Jusko cover looks like a small prelim.
>>154754245Yeah, it's not that great. I'm posting it anyways. It's still better than the shit we have to deal with nowadays.Besides, that's when Marvel as a whole had a sharp decline in quality. You can't see it yet, but I had to add little disclaimers next to certain characters' names in the later issues because they were being depicted as some short-lived 90s redesign instead of their more classical counterparts.Doctor Strange and Namorita are the worst offenders, they don't even use their proper names due to bullshit from their books.
>>154754077This was the one that revved my engine. >>154754198
Also, did you know Purple Man had a daughter? I didn't, but here's her in a swimsuit.Would.
>>154754324Looks like Cindy Crawford.
>>154753262Thank you Anon!Yeah this year's summer special sucked all they did was complain about AI art.
>>154754348It's so annoying how every hack writer thinks they're being clever by bashing it. Or is stupid enough to feel the need to fit in by bashing it. It's like how every other villain was a Trump analog for a while. I don't like the subject matter much myself, but the bashing gets so annoying that you start hating the haters too.
>>154754367I don't even think about Trump, I'm so sick of people talking about him. Plus the woke scolding struggle sessions.
>>154754462And by “pencil” he means his wiener.
>>154754471Good old Pip
>>154753336How does Cable look so zesty while ogling a woman?
>>154754486The future is gay
>>154754198Why is Betsy (formerly Kwannon) such a slut?
>>154754078The New Warriors before they killed a bunch of kids. Also always liked the style of Richard Rider in the 90's.
>>154754611So far even with the balloon tits every pin up looks pretty tame. Like even this one that has that Tom of Finland vibes it is prudish looking.
Here's where the disclaimers start. Most of them are cut off. Mouse over the file name to read them.>>154754652Same
>>154754510She’s so yellow. Was she Asian back then?
>>154754772No, the colorists were just horrendous. Almost every character around then seemed to swap races indiscriminately.
>>154754764No homo butt something looks off with his package.
>>154754785His dick almost reaches his knee. Dr. Strange is 6' 1", so that thing has to be almost a foot long.
The ads were kinda fun and soulful tho...you're missing out...>>154753283Geez. Jim Lee's stuff looks like Lara Croft but this one really looks like that type of woman.>>154753348Goddamn Diamondback looks nice.>>154753401Kek. This image always looks like some He-Man fun with Loki looking like a moustsche twirling Skeletor villain back there. >>154753494Yeah um...Rivals, if you don't deliver this outfit then you're fucking missing out big time. The web snood is sexy as hell and is a kino MJ look. >>154753544Holy Marlo booba.>>154754151Thanos seems like a chill guy. Would play some hoops with him and Warlock.>>154754198I be jamming my psykey so fucking hard into her I gotta get another one and a bit of newspaper under her in order to get it back. They call me the locksmith.>>154754208HOLY FUCK, JANNIES AIIIIEEEEECENSOR THAT SHIT RIGHT NOWTHERE ARE UNDERAGEB& EYES PRESENT!!!!!!!>>154754582Man. Storm's cat eyes. Always a great distinguishing feature of hers.
>>154754926I wanted to do the ads, too, but there are over a hundred of these pin-ups and I'm not paying for a pass. This is already taking several hours, so it's just the swimsuits this time.Agreed on the web snood, that is MJ's best pin-up ever. Can't be topped.
>>154754764>>154754819man with a ruler coming throughCan anyone who’s good with numbers solve this mystery?
>>154754992Please don't post images during a storytime thread, I'm already cutting it close with this one
>>154755090This feels like a real step down from the other Psylocke images.
>>154755109Most of the repeats in the newer ones do. Guess they were rushed or something.
Last issue. Still better than this summer's.
>>154754950>adsNo problem. I can find some and post them after you're done. Maybe not all. >web snoodYep. It should be mandatory fashion to wear under the mask for all spider-women. Or just MJ and Mayday when she grows her hair out.>>154755071Good Emma.>>154755137Based Wonderman, chilling and relaxing in his own AU.
This is the only Venom pin-up in any of these volumes. Very funny given how many people seem to be attracted to him.
>>154755178That would be appreciated, thank you. Should be done in 20-30 minutes if I don't need another break.
Maybe I'll do some letters after I'm done, too. Those were funny.Any objections? I'll go after ad guy if there's space.
>>154755179Monsterfuckers were not a known quantity. They would get looked at weirdly in the same vein as furries. But perhaps less so, dunno how She-Venom was received at the time. Haven't read up to the 80's yet to see if any women wrote any letters about wanting to fuck Eddie or Venom. But yeah anybody who doesn't get the appeal of a man or woman (whatever you're into) being clad in skintight goo that can morph your body or into any shape or clothing while having a cute or scary face of fangs has got to be sexually impotent.
>>154755163I know it's not the best She-Hulk picture of the bunch, but I always loved it. She-Hulk in a fighting game level from the 90s.
Considered giving this one a disclaimer too, but the text already does it and everyone knows who Ben is. Everyone in this thread, anyways.>>154755246Yeah, it's the second part I was surprised by. Skintight shapeshifting goo on a hot man. How did he only get one pin-up.
Doc Strange has a normal pecker in this pin-up. Either Doc Stevens had a magically-enhanced penis that Doc Strange does not, or the penciler for the last swimsuit issue just fucked up the sizing and "accidentally" made a wizard from the Village the most hung man on Marvel Earth.
>>154755255>>154755163It shows off the musculature well and the artist is pretty good. The anatomy of some of these others is a bit too exaggerated for my tastes but it is quite nostalgic.Reminds me specifically of whoever did the art for the mortal kombat manual and comics.
>>154755330Makes sense. I think Mortal Kombat had some swimsuit specials too, but I don't know if the same guy worked on them.
>>154755145Are you going to post this summer’s? You trash talked it enough I’m curious. Wait, when did they bring back swimsuit issues? Are they for the modern audience, now?
>>154755428Nobody deserves to be subjected to that trash. I'm not posting it.>Are they for the modern audience, now?The mythical "modern audience," yeah. The entire stupid thing is just the tamest pin-ups imaginable combined with a bunch of short stories trying way too hard to praise those shitty pin-ups. I think "respectfully looking" was included somewhere in there as legitimate dialogue, if you want an idea of what I'm talking about. Some really really bad art all-around, not even the cheesiest gradients in this last issue are as bad.Whole thing felt half-finished at best, like some sort of obligation just because Rivals is popular now.
Last Psylocke for today boys. Say goodbye.
>>154755502sex with clea
>>154755410Kek. Cap's face and the context. Looks like Charles Atlas. Yeah bitch I'm a little tired of nazis let's go over to the pacific theater and get some gash.
>>154755518Did not know many people liked Clea. Or are you the same guy from before?
>>154755541Getting gash isn't the only thing those two'll be doing by the end of the evening
>>154755421Damn...it's bad to fuck crazy. But damn...>>154755488Johnny looks pissed. And jacked.>>154755544Nta, and I haven't mentioned Clea before in this thread but from my casual knowledge of Strange, she gets plenty of great art in the 70's, and some great cheesecake art generally. Also I think they might be one of Marvel's healthier couples like Rogue and Gambit.
>>154755572"One who buggers a fire burns his penis." - wise man from ancient rome. Don't stick your dick in Typhoid, anon.>Nta, and I haven't mentioned Clea before in this thread but from my casual knowledge of Strange, she gets plenty of great art in the 70's, and some great cheesecake art generally. >>154755558Wasn't Northstar already known to be gay by this time?
Aaaand done. That's all folks. Will stick around for 15-20 minutes, see if ad guy pops up. If he doesn't, I'll post some letters.>>154755610Yes, I think between issues 3 and 4 he came out. Don't quote me on it. Not an expert on gay men
>>154755621*2 and 3, not 3 and 4. The text for his issue 3 pin-up reads gay to me.
>>154755597>hurt your chancesYeah I mean they have had time undoubtedly where they were separated but I mean like if hasn't been much of a sore point for Marvel to fret over.>>154755607Doc is such a bro. Everytime I see him outside of his initial stint as a villain, he seems like such a good hang, kinda like Beast and Wonderman. Surprised they haven't had a trio book of those 3.>>154755579This Quesada art looks fucking cursed. It's like Quesadilla just blew a load all over him and Namor's expression is one of absolute horror and wrath. Even the writer captioning this is confused at what Quesada meant by this.
>>154755621
>>154755669For any anons who haven't seen thesw fully, they also have pages where they explain more of the conceit for what location all the pin-ups take place in, as also evidenced by the subtitle each issue has where they are all on the Blue Side of the Moon or on Madripoor.
>>154755669Based adbro starting with one of the best.>>154755657I meant her being taken might make her less attractive. Why did I even ask. Sue Richards is being lusted over by Rivals kids as we speak
>>154755687The first issue actually has articles as well as art that is more like an actual magazine like a snapshots of the heroes going around town or hanging at a concert.
Was T-Mary that popular back then? I'm surprised there's so few Elektra pin-ups
>>154755702That is, all to say, Marvel had some worldbuilding chops back then whether for seriousness or for comedy like these ads.
>>154755710There was also a special issue called Marvel 1989 year in review that also has more of this type of material. It's pretty fucking cool.
>>154755702I loved those. I wish the newer swimsuit issues had them too. The ads were nice, at least. >>154755724Year in Review kept up until halfway through the 90s, I think. Also yeah, was really cool. Had more ads. I haven't reread it in a while though.>>154755709You'd be surprised by what was big back then. Nightmare has a pin-up here >>154755220 because he was stupid popular at the time. That girl he's with appears in his mini-series and almost nowhere else, she has 6 appearances total.
>>154755742Nightmare was popular...in the 90's? Why? I mean I like Nightmare and weird Ditko characters just like anybody else but I thought he would be obscure and not known about or thought of as hokey?
>>154755709Not sure. But Electra got more here anyway, right? So I don't think that's too crazy. DD was big in general so more waifus, more representation.
>>154755753I have no idea and can't remember why, I just remember he got a lot of love. Lots of art and, as you saw, a swimsuit shot. Maybe had to do with the slow rise of goth and Gaiman's Sandman, I don't know. Plummeted in popularity around the 2000s, too. Very weird. He's definitely a C-lister nowadays.
>>154755770Just noticed the file name.>vintage ads>90sHold me.
Holy fuck we were spoiled back then!We can't reach 1/28th this greatness now. Thanks Quesada!
>>154755769That makes sense. Ditko in general was well represented by many artists across many periods. But yeah emo/goth at that time latching onto Nightmare is apt.
>>154755783
>>154755780Sorry I stole these from Reddit and Batcave. But think of it as me stealing from Reddit rather than promoting Reddit.

>>154755830Fuck image was for ants. Oh well.
>>154755830Version not for ants
>>154755846This one is cursed. But probably has history behind it. It's a parody of levi print ads. And I think Liefeld's anatomy was made fun of a this point and Stan himself made the joke during his comic book greats program asking how these characters got dressed so that probably is what inspired this.
>>154755797Is that Big Bertha in the bottom right?
>>154755847Thanks.>>154755870Yep I think so.

Alrighty. Here's the first letter column, from the first swimsuit special. Special 2 didn't have any letters, but 3 and 4 do. Will post those too.
>>154756027Yeah you can start. I can't find any more good images online. Like pic rel. Can't find better quality.
This one also has a partly-covered shot of Adam Warlock(?) all wet.
>>154756091Oh and here's my last image. Apparently one of the designers, at least this ad says so.
And this is the last one, from special 4. It has that infamous Thor comment they made into trunks for this year's issue. It's funny, but that pin-up in the new swimsuit special made it seem uncool to like.Reading the end, seems like there was supposed to be a special 5 and onwards? Don't know why else they would ask for letters if they weren't making another issue. Bankruptcy probably killed it.>>154756091Well, I just wrapped up so I guess we're both done now.If you want good-quality images of the old ads and stuff, just visit some online piracy site and grab a copy of the original comics. Marvel Illustrated, Swimsuit, and Year-In-Review are where most of them came from I think. Marvel Fanfare also has pin-ups, but they're covered up and there are only 2-3 per issue (except for Fanfare #45, that one's all pin-ups). No ads in Fanfare, no articles either.
>>154756091
>>154753761Not that different from her usual getup. Although I think her breasts might be smaller than her usual.
BROS! HAVE I GOT THE ISSUES FOR YOUIT'S THE MARVEL ANNUAL AND QUARTERLY REPORTS! FILLED WITH THRILLING FINANCIAL DATA AND PROJECTIONS! Oh and a 6 page story by the watcher in one of them.
>>15475617590's artists mogging modern writers and freelancers by making a financial report back up more interesting to look at then their stories.Every fucking facet of the company was packed to the brim with soul.
>>154756175>>154756192I thought you were fucking joking, but they did one of these every year throughout the entire 90s. Why did they ever stop?? And how do I read these stupid things?? I need to enshrine them as role models to follow for any time I need to make something boring.
>>154756217To make something not boring, you mean?Yeah I just heard about them recently.Pretty cool.
>>154756269Yes, I need them as examples for how to make boring things less boring. So, to make something not boring. They are pretty cool. They're also $200 per issue according to most auction sites. And online piracy only nets me the 1991-1995 issues. Where are the rest? Do you know?
>>154754911You weren't kidding about the colorists.
>>154756292Nope sorry. You know now more than me but I found a video of a guy flipping through it. Some neat art of bar charts being made into skyscrapers for Spdiey to swing from and ones for Wolverine to slash. Yeah I just realized at some point those numbers have gotta crater.
>>154756319I found what you were talking about! It's in the 1991 annual. There's a whole two-page spread for the history of Marvel comics that precedes this. Love and care put into every single part of this. It's a fucking financial report!
I'm sure we'd all be a bit more enthusiastic about balance sheets if all of them had She-Hulk encouraging us in their top-left corners.
>>154756319Huh, didn't realize but the 91 report was the first ever appearance of Spider-Man 2099. Even before 365 and some preview issue. I did know Sales to Astonish was the first cover appearance but not this one. And that's why it's the most expensive one.Anyway, guess this thread is now just a variety of obscure Marvel facts, cool soulful stuff, and obscure comics.
>>154756378Sure, why not.LOOK AT THIS COVER. It's a financial report!!
Storytiming the comic immediately following it, fuck it. This is hilarious.
The Triumph and Torment sequel we never knew we needed.
This art is so good that it makes the script even funnierThis feels like an edit, but since the art matches up with the words it's downright uncanny

I like how these have the various characters doing something fun. The ones using Colossus' metallic texture are neat. Of the bad gals, I remember thinking Viper was common, but she fell off. I think Black Cat was the most common if she counts, with Typhoid Mary being the most reoccurring if limited to ones that actually mostly villain.
>>154756498Oof. I mean I heard about how Fleer was a bad acquisition but how bad was it? Did the card market collapse first and then comics? Given that we know the crash happened, that 260 million debt looks bad but I forget the exact context.
Just in case the stockholders missed out on all the character explanations on the second page of the report (I skipped it here, but they summate the backstories of everyone on the cover just in case the suits don't know anyone. It's incredible)
>>154756537I don't know it myself, I'm just here for Thunderstrike shouting about how bright Marvel's future is in the early 90s. It's like watching an incredibly enthusiastic cheerleading team aboard the Titanic trying to encourage the captain.
>>154756530Rachel in Spider-Woman cosplay is cute!
>hologram coversOh my god, it's beautiful
They're so enthusiastic about the cards, it's adorable
>>154756591Oof. 90's herb trimpe. Well at least they are using Gambit for the card portion. Quite fittingly.
>>154756604Yeah, this art's rough. Script is great though, very comfy. Makes me miss how often baseball used to come up in old issues lol.
They REALLY liked the cards. Like, REALLY REALLY liked them.
>Modern Marvel Annual Report: Uh we're fucked by Absolute, we're gonna put out blindbags, we're looking into Burbank and Webtoon, variants are our life support, and oh look at how much we save on labor (by not paying them well or on time)! >>154756628And I bet there're no baseball games and Spider-Woman cosplays in their annual reports, either. Booo!

>>154756765I dunno. I mean yeah it hadn't picked up steam yet but I would say they should've talked more to guys like Miller and also seen what Dark Horse and indies were doing and also considered if they could have cut costs by printing in B&W. I mean that's rich for me to say but if I were a stockholder and knew about manga (unlikely), I would have brought it up.
Oh, I think this is it for the comic! Got in under the limit with 5 images to spare, nice. 34 pages... ridiculously extravagant. The actual financial report, which comes after this, is 12 pages long! And there's more character art in those than there is text!

It's a very ahead-of-its-time rendition of the average MCU connoisseur, if I do say so myself. The 1993 report also has a comic, and it is similarly enormous and well-detailed, but there's definitely not enough space to post it here... and it's already well past midnight on my end... might have to save it for another day.
