It does however happen that American animated shows can indeed get nearly 40 seasons (Simpsons) and sometimes shorter episodes can mean up to ~50 episode seasons (TTGO).If Avatar was anywhere near as popular as Naruto, there wouldn't have been a 60 episode show, then a 50 episode sequel several years later, then another sequel even later than that alongside some shitty live-action remakes. What would have happened is that the original show would have gotten like an additional 12 consecutive seasons, adding up to like 300 episodes in total. And don't give me any of that "the creators ended it on their terms, it wouldn't make sense to make more" bullshit, they came back for the sequel show and it's not like Nickelodeon didn't continue shows past the original creator's involvement before.

They could get cut and bleed, they could get stabbed and die. And theyre throwing them around combined with their powers and anime fight moves. So it feels badass and extra deadly. It was without a doubt more popular. I'd say more popular than ATLA and Teen Titans combined. I remember seeing the commercial for Avatar and being excited for it, meanwhile the commercial for Naruto made it look like shit. I watch the premiere for Avatar and it was pretty good, that same weekend a friend is sleeping over and wants to watch the Naruto premiere. I give it a shot and I'm instantly hooked. That friend I don't even remember the name of changed my life into an anime otaku that has been to Japan thrice and am watching like 10 of the new anime this season. Japan was much more focused on rewarding their individual standout manga authors. Look at all the money royalties and status rewarded to Kubo and Kishimoto.The west had many good writers of middle grade and (older style) young adult fantasy and fiction from the 70s to the early 2000s, but those authors had no large reward paths like that to nearly the same amount of frequency. In terms of writing and storytelling, western animation did not show the same deference and willingness to usefully take the value offered by highly practiced and creative fantasy and fiction writers and their novels to launch them into bigger properties through animated television. I blame boomers who mostly lacked the vision

Ursula K Guin is one of the more well known fantasy authors in America and the one half-adaptation Earthsea got was from Japan. It's genuinely nice that an American author wrote something like Earthsea, and yet its own native country simply never capitalized on its value for the television screen through the lower cost option of animation.
