I think it's easy to assume that Kinger is this perfectly wise figure, but in reality he may not be perfect at all.But of course we don't actually see any of that for certain in the comic so we're left to wonder whether imprisoning Caine was a moment of hotheaded, unwise vengeance from Kinger, or a wise, deserved punishment. Or just J-Stein dropping the ball a bit due to his own biases. We'll have to wait and see if this is addressed in the future I guess

A couple of rare spelling mistakes, but the prose was very readable and nicely written, the pacing was good, the characters were good, and the funnybunny was really good.It's always a pleasure when Jax and Pomni are written in a plausible way, such that the story can actually fit with what we see in the show, and the way the story writes them slots in pretty nicely post-Ep6 without any particular suspensions of disbelief.In contrast to some other funnybunny tropes, Jax in this one seems pretty open to the concept of opening up to others when pressed. But I don't think it's a bad thing, and it's a nice change of pace from those stories where 90% of the plot is "Jax is shutting himself off and Pomni climbs to the end of the worlds and back to reach him, they have a heart to heart, repeat next chapter when something spooks him and he closes off again" (cough, Cascade). Having Jax actually willing to mellow out a bit and drop his mask even around the other characters was a neat take, and didn't hinder the drama or romance at all IMO.The other characters are also pretty well written, Ragatha's friendship felt natural and Gangle was cute.There's less romance than in some other stories but I also didn't mind that. There's an ongoing plotline that's pretty interesting, and Pomni and Jax are basically growing closer to each other throughout it all, mostly as friends at first. Seeing the two interacting is still funnybunny to me, and the result is a more grounded, casual sort of fic rather than all lovey-dovey all the way through.Definitely worthwhile reading for funnybunny.

But in the show, Jax even takes the initiative in ep 9 to approach Pomni, even though he then walks off presumably if Pomni engaged with him he'd have been willing to talk, so it's not implausible to think he'd mellow out after this ep6 crashout and willingly give the whole "being friends with people" another try. Especially if you don't immediately throw episodes 7 and 8 onto the characters and instead give Pomni some time and space to reach out to him after the fight and push to reconnect again.

And Pomni being able to break through his mask and find some sliver of connection to him, followed by him panicking and overcompensating to desperately restore his distance, directly leads to the rest of his character arc central in the next episodes, namely growing more despondent and regretful and finally killing himself, and all throughout Pomni remains the one still trying to reach out to him (like insisting on inviting him on the Abel adventure, unknowingly likely saving his life on that day) until things spiral out of control later with the circus in shambles.
