If I had one minor complaint, it's that who's supposed to be the 'main bad guy' switches multiple times. They're initially going specifically after The Anecdotist, then once the group is introduced The Fat-Man takes center stage, and we're about to get a reveal of that mysterious hooded villain

You know how every year there's new stuff I/we notice that we hadn't seen before? There's been a couple this year (I kind of forgot Kumoko Gokiburi "nuclear arms" in this one was the same girl who was a half spider lady in the older one).Here's another one. The chemist is named Lillian Fleiderschwein. So she's presumably the daughter of Hans Fleiderschwein (the chemist for Trend-Phen in Issue 3 of Flying Suit Reiko who made the namesake dieting pill, and was then killed by being exposed to that dieting supplement Arc of the Covenant style. Then he came back in the Old Muertitos as a skeleton helping out Kumoko Gokiburi in her arms dealing scheme.) Seemingly his daughter is keeping up the family business.Between the Gokiburi's and the Fleiderschwein's there are a lot of mad scientist families in this universe

If you didn't read the 2001-2002 Muertitos run (I don't blame you if you skipped it, the quality is ehhh especially art quality wise and it's not even fully canon to the newer run), Pele was introduced there having set up shop on the Vodun Islands. (In fact I think they even mentioned at some point she wasn't supposed to be there and had been ousted from her usual spot by her rival so cool to come back to that)

I'm surprised Steph didn't include Ankhmutes in this given she was the one with a crush on Chad and sent Youko to try to be her wingman before she yoinked him. In fact she's the one character not here it what was otherwise an all hands on deck finale.

And that's the end (except for two Halloween bonus pages). After 3 and a half years and 566 pages (actually 588 if you include bonus pages and the No Boom! filler) not to mention the 120 pages from the 2001-2002 run, Muertitos concluded. After honestly a very satisfying ending(other than excluding Ankhmutes and her mom which I only just noticed) After this, Steph would continue with Creamy Beamy, and 4 months later IntraGalactic would start up....and then she'd get some SLG deals and blah blah blah long story I'll talk about later. Honestly? As a whole? Muertitos is probably her favorite work of fine, and not just because it's big. (It is. 566 is underselling it, I've got 588 listed, plus there's the 127 pages from the original run and if the character art was it's own pages like in Creamy Beamy that would be another 15 if not closer to 30 if you include both sets. Combine that with extra art and there's almost 750 pages worth of official Muertitos stuff out there), but it just does a really good job balancing the humor with the horny and keeping all the characters in the spot light sometimes. It's very good at selling the main cast as friends.
Creamy Beamy is great, better in some ways, but it's biggest weakness is the pacing and Yukiri not being handled well as a 'best friend'. And Reiko of course has the very very old art. Anyway, look at the Halloween costumes

Candy Stripers does a really good job balancing all 4 main characters and not giving too much favouritism. Octopus Rex is also decent at it as is PETA albeit all 3 still have favorites. (Ankhmutes has the weakest role in Candy Stripers which favors Honeo, Octopus Rex favors Youko the most, as does PETA which is the one story where Honeo is notably sidelined). The back half tends to focus on one or two characters more or give the side characters more attention. (Principal Hades is one of the main characters in two stories meanwhile Ankhmutes kind of does nothing after her starring role in Tykes to Watch Out For). It’s clear Honeo and Youko are the two true main characters and both are the stars of most of the stories. Lafcadio is the comic relief and gets a lot of subplots, but is never really the main character (closest is PETA here or Hello to Arms in the old one). Ankhmutes does get one protagonist role, but otherwise she’s the most neglected of the four
