>peak MCU dialogue>uguu shyboy Peter>reducing Blade to blacked shit>Agatha Harkness' lesbian granny power couple>Captain Marvel: really flerkin' powerfulIt's honestly impressive that they found a way to fit literally every horrible Marvel direction in this game. The worst part? The actual game hidden beneath all that shit is really good.
>>155238483>make a game called midnight sons>put in movie characters like wolverine, spiderman and iron man that are not midnight sons and have zero magic or supernatural abilitiestypical
>>155238483>card based TRPG>really goodNo.
The clearly cut out dating sim hurt them.Shipping and self-inserts sell.
>>155239384True. I'd have bought the game if I was allowed to fuck Magik and Nico.>>155238612TBF they made Midnight SUNS legally distinct from Midning SONS so they don't need to hear our whining about how only one of the original nine made the roster. I get not wanting to push Morbius because Sony, or not wanting Hannibal King because lol why, but they could have used Johnny Blaze.
>>155238483This poor fucking game got screwed over in all the worst ways. It’s like every single element was ripe for being the best-ever, but the devs just HAD to add something to ruin it in the end>AAA RPG focused on Marvel’s magic side, releasing the same year as a Dr. Strange movie and right after a very successful magic TV show>focus all of the marketing on discount Avengers and a self-insert instead of the fucking magicians>Huge focus on social links, character bonding, and downtime, to the point where there are hundreds of written conversations between characters for an optional menu>Cut out an obvious romantic element and hire a fucking consultant to stink up the writing>Hardcore tactical squad game, taking from modern comics, made by the XCOM devs >Add in a fucking deckbuilding element because Slay the Spire is trendy>And a shitload of cosmetic monetization even though the nerds who’d be interested in that would hardly care about thatI could go onI’m still mad about how badly it bombed. It’s super flawed, but I really loved it and would’ve killed for a sequel (or even just proper DLC that added DOOM and/or a real post-game)
>>155238483>game is really goodThe basic mechanics of the combat make it unplayable. Who the fuck decided to make a midnight suns game with card based combat and a shit storyline to boot?
>>155241219A genius, one of the best game designers of the modern era, and the reason the game is so good., Jake Solomon
>>155238612This. They were too afraid that their game couldn't succeed without wheeling out characters people more easily recognized as MCU staples and hitting the "put Wolverine or Spider-Man in to get sales" button, because when I think Midnight Sons, I totally think Iron Man and Wolverine. Turns out that the game didn't do what it wanted to do well enough for people to overlook everything else that could turn them off.
>>155238483I could have ignored all that shit and enjoy the game if it had some art direction, but it went with the lame realism (and base UE assets) and it just looked so boring to even care about unlocking alt suits.
>>155241219It took me a while to get it, but the game really is a lot of fun when you get a hang of the mechanics.
>>155238483That chick in the middle and everyone in the left of that picture are half the reason why this game was doomed. The other half was CARD BASED X-COM who the fuck want's CARD BASED X-COM, Christ I hate card based combat
>>155240625It's a perfect example of everything wrong with the AAA industry. They'll get the bones to make something great then just pile on absolute bullshit because it's trendy or some exec thinks they can make a few extra bucks on MTX
I've been tempted to play it nice because I love The Runaways but I'm not sure how much value I'd find from that if it's only Nico. I wish Rivals would add her.
>>155239384Get rid of the self insert but keep some of the shipping. I'd unironically play an Avengers/X-men SRPG with Fire Emblem style relationship building since interpersonal drama is heavy for both teams
