As this page explains, "Man of Iron" was actually a UK original story (the very first) created as filler to give people something to read between the release of Marvel US issues in Britain. It was the only UK original story released in the United States and canonically takes place at the same time as the US issue #3.

The original plan was to run the introduction story in the main book but shit changed to make it a mini series instead, requiring the main book to basically skip two months as they needed to give their production schedule breathing room since they told Marvel creating two books a month over two months was doable but not doing it four months straight. So while Headmasters was running, they did two months of filler.Also Furman hates this story and got Titan to skip it in both their US and UK reprint.

This is a huge trip down memory lane, I remember many of these issues from back when I was a kid. This comic series is probably a big part of why I love giant robots.
