Today marks the fourth anniversary since Stargaze and the Sentinels of Starlight became a /co/ project. I'm sure some people here remember it, but I'm gonna make a couple of introductory posts. Then everyone who wants to know more, or to take a trip down memory lane in a 1980's saturday morning that never was, can post today and have fun. It's the 6th of September, a day for stargazing. > Stargaze and the Sentinels of StarlightStargaze and the Sentinels of Starlight, abbreviated SatSoS, is a fictional 1980s toy-driven space-fantasy animated series created as an original /co/ project. The series follows Star-rō Blaster, better known as Stargaze, and the Sentinels of Starlight as they travel across the galaxy and battle various supernatural and technological threats.SatSoS is presented not only as a fictional animated series, but as a fictional media artifact with an imagined production history. The project includes supposed earlier and later adaptations, production material, scripts, character-development documents, and a fictional history of the studio behind the series.> SettingSatSoS is set in a space-fantasy universe where alien civilizations, advanced technology and magic coexist. The galaxy is presented as a vast frontier, with Stargaze and the Sentinels travelling between planets and encountering different peoples, cultures and threats.
>>155343841> Magic and StarsMany planets have distinct civilizations and customs, and individual worlds are often strongly associated with particular species or cultures. The setting combines the imagery of space opera and science fiction with elements of heroic fantasy, including ancient orders, royal bloodlines, magical artifacts and supernatural forces.Magic is a real force in the universe of SatSoS. It can manifest through characters, artifacts and other phenomena, and some forms of psychic ability are associated with it.Stars can also possess magical properties. Among the most significant are the Lightstar and the Voidstar, which represent opposing forces of cosmic power. The Lightstar is associated with benevolent forces and is connected to the history of the Sentinels of Starlight. The Voidstar is associated with Nebulious and the forces of evil.> The royal Blaster heritageThe history of Stargaze and his family is connected to the older history of the galaxy. Stargaze is a member of the royal Blaster family and the descendant of a people whose ancestral homeworld was destroyed. Following the destruction of their original world, Stargaze's ancestors adopted the tradition of wandering among the stars as knights and protectors.Stargaze's Megaman-like hand cannon, the Royal Blaster, is both a powerful weapon and an ancient heirloom of the Blaster family. It can change its form and allows Stargaze to acquire new weapons, powers and abilities from other characters.
>>155343841>>155343848The Stargaze project sadly passed me by when the threads were being made, I didn't have as much interest in /co/ creations back then, I suppose.
>>155343841Happy 4th anniversary!
>>155344196It was fun, many artists contributed. There was even a couple of animations. You can find everything in a thread on the other chan in the OP.I miss talking about the lore and worldbuilding and the interesting people that visited the threads. My favourite characters were those of the first season, particularly Stargaze, Redshift, Comet and Pum-mel. And the villains too. There was something for everyone.
>>155344643Yeah, I can imagine. Not to sound whiny, but I always seem to gain an interesting in something either at the tail end of its relevancy ot after its already over. That's just how it goes though, no use complaining about it, glad you had fun!
Hello /coc/!>>155343841>>155343848oh this two pics took me back i wasn't there from the beginning of the project, but I tried to contribute to it with characters and ideas.I remember pitching a disturbing episode about a mad scientist who tries to clone his wife and daughter that he lost years ago and ends up creating a bunch of deformed clones that attack the siblings.it was a fun time.Happy 4th anniversary, and see you... OUT... THERE!!!
Violence Is A Beautiful Thing
>>155345915I think you're on the wrong thread? That sounds interesting though.

Just checking to see if that other anon was still interested in the highschool alternate story stuff?

>>155343734I mean, you could've mentioned the comic you used to start the thread with. A bug mini comic isn't something we should take for granted.
>>155346387>what a funny way to discover that thread. Not very surprising. Chaptor was made when someone made a typo in an Ultimate X-Men thread, asking what chaptor Cable shows up in. /co/ is funny like that.

Good mormimg, happy labor day to the americans.
>>155347390Not the anon you're looking for, but can you give me a qrd on what's been talked about so far?
>>155360765Also not the anon you're respoding to, but a quick rundown is basically:>/coc/ highschool au in the style of X-Men Evolution/Iron Man Armored Adventures>kind of a Ladybug/Jackhammer/Crackdown setting merger, in a sense>Jack and Marley are primary protagonists>Season 1 is against the Blue Moon>Arthur is a non-villanous rival/deuteragonist that joins the main cast later on thanks to Lila >the setting is more upbeat, but whether or not dead parents should remain dead is a point of contention You can honestly just read the thread yourself starting from this post, the discourse has been pretty light so far:>>155306229
>>155360765Oh, well you see->>155361450Yeah might be better. Last thing we were talking about was potentially pulling back on canon and How Marley wouldn't really need to since in High School her parents were divorced and not just her dad was dead. What's next?
>>155361450Ok, thanks. I feel like HS settings are the most fundamental, default type of AU, but that's part of their charm in a way.
>>155362094Eh, not every idea needs to set the world on fire with originality. Sometimes it's just fun to pluck the character out of their usual setting and try to imagine how they would operate if it were a different one or maybe shift just one little thing about them that would in practice make a world of difference.
>>155347980>>155348059Oh this takes me back>Though he didn't get much drawings, hopefully these give him some justice.i could try to doodle something for him
>>155362041>What's next?Dunno, continue shooting the shit, I guess.Like how different would Jack be in this highschool au?With Arthur and Marley I can imagine all kinds of changes due to their circle of friends being expanded, but he just feels like he'd be doing the exact same thing as his young adult self.
>>155362654Maybe not too much, maybe there's an angle of having to keep face for random students, depending how big the football scene is in school
>>155362426That would be great.Kayla was in Rock-it's villains rooster, right?Speaking of Rock-it, probably one of my favourite greentexts that came out from the project was the Tetraleaf Studios one where they had to decide Rock-it's catchphrase. I'll just post it...
>>155363241>"Look alive lads. I've talked with the marketing lads and they think the new guy- huh Rock-it, was it? So they think the new guy needs a catchphrase. A one-liner to throw at the bad guys or just, you know, mantra of the sorts.">F.K Simmons looked at the menagerie that composed the Stargaze writing team, the ragtag team of writer Mickey Wesley and scriptwriter Carl Nabokov. The tiny meeting room they employed was very much near the drawing boards, so ocassionally, one of the artists would pass by to get a beverage from the shitty fridge.>Of course, Mickey answered first. He always does.>"F.K, we already have Star-Ro say catchphrases at the beginning AND end of the damn show. We don't need more.">"Those are PSA messages. I doubt kids give a crap about them. I'm talking about "Go go Gadget" or "Cowabungers", that sort of thing-">"No it just- it just wouldn't work.">"Look Mick, I know this might go against the beautiful bible you've written">Carl chuckled as his greasy hands fetched a cold beer from the fridge. F.K had no idea how much Mickey despised marketing-driven decisions. If it were for him, he would do it for "the art", whatever that it is...>"-but think of the big picture. We are gonna be competing with the likes of Thundercats and Scooby-Doo, fierce opponents that have been at it for years. We gotta aim for mass appeal or we'll sink faster than the Titanic.">"And you think that a catchphrase will somehow attract more viewers.">F.K paused for a minute>"Yes.">Mickey grabbed his head and sighed.>"Fine, it's fine. I can live with a catchphrase. Carl?">"If you are fine with it, I'm fine with it too... Though, I gotta ask: What kind of catchphrase should a guy called "Rock-It" have?">Deafening silence. Carl had, at that very moment, no idea that he opened the Pandora Box.>"Let's rock it?" muttered F.K. The instant those words left his mouth, Wesley winced, like an injured animal.
>>155363280>Two hours passed since Carl had opened the Pandora Box. Cartoonists and artists had gotten involved at F.K's request as Mickey was unable to come up with anything that fitted his strict standarts>Carl was the wisest man in that horrifically heated room. He knew this was going nowhere. He merely thrived in the chaos and threw a silly suggestion here and there>"Rock and roll. Rock me. Rock'em and roll 'em. Put a rock in it- Jesus fucking Christ, is this the best 20 people can come up with? I pray I am never allowed to work in a cartoon ever again">Mickey continued reading the list while Carl continued to laugh. F.K had just finished his fifth cigar and was searching his pockets for a sixth. Brad Green zoomed off for a minute and wondered how the fuck he ended up working in Tetraleaf Studios>Everyone else was either uncomfortable, exhausted or both. The tiny meeting room was slowly killing them, with its poor ventilation and back-murdering chairs.>"Wesley, do us all a favour and just pick one" urged FK>"None of these fit!">"Just. Pick. One. I don't care which! Make up your damn mind and pick one!">"They are all trash.">"Pick one!"
>>155363307>After that horrible two-hour meeting, a compromise was made: Since Mickey couldn't fucking decide, F.K decided to let Storyboard director Robin Paste (and his team) choose the phrase. Surely, they would pick the least offensive one.>Finally, voice recording began. Robin had unknowingly misinterpreted F.K instructions, but he wouldn't find out until Rock-It's voice actor began reading the lines. They assembled, blissfully unaware, at the recording booths to check if the episode was slowly shaping up. Even Adam was there, a rarity in those early days where his Walt Disney eccentricities forced him in constant back-to-back meetings.>The actors begin reading their lines. Carl whispered to Mick, "I think Comet's actress should be younger", but Mickey's mind was elsewhere. He was waiting, with terrible trepidation, to hear Rock-It's catchphrase>Finally, Rock-It lines>"Rockin' stones, lad! You have my power now, show me what this rock-a-tastic blaster can do with it!">Mickey's light banished from his eyes as F.K's cigar was ejected from his mouth. Adam squinted, rubbed his temples then gazed at the writing team without saying a word. Ah yes, the Muska Stare. Someone had fucked up. Everybody in the studio knew the Muska Stare. Heads would roll if nobody was held responsible.>But the episode kept going and the actors kept reharsing their lines. Mickey merely shook his head, F.K was seemingly frozen, and Carl wasn't paying attention. Muska, of course, was too much of a gentleman, so he would let the recording finish before opening the gates of Hell
>>155362903Maybe one can focus on his inexperience?Like, he still wants to do the right thing, but sometimes he likes the maturity to take the correct course of action.I also think it might be fun to explore Arthur as a kind of "delinquent savant" rather than a shut in that he is in the mainverse.

>>155364689Mhm. I did have it in my mind that JH was already established, but that could be a good plot point. Maybe Marley sees tabloids against him and her and just brushes it off as sensationalizing their work, only to realize that Jack really pays attention to what they are saying and that they're right in some of the stories. A horrible first impression with the press soured their mood to him and he's been trying hard to fix that.>I also think it might be fun to explore Arthur as a kind of "delinquent savant" rather than a shut in that he is in the mainverse. How so? Like he skips class but more because he doesn't need to study anything?A fun story might be Jack desperately trying to get Arthur to try out Football, getting him to practice, everyone seeing how good he is (might be a natural linebacker), before Arthur just leaves because he just doesn't want to play it.
>>155364907>How so? Like he skips class but more because he doesn't need to study anything?More like deliberately keeps his grades average so that people wouldn't pester him with extracurriculars. But yeah, he might also skip class too every now and then.It was established during one of the drawpiles last month that 12 y/o Arthur was a real piss-and-vinegar kind of kid that didn't really fit in with either good students despite his smarts or other troublemakers. I can see him retaining at least some of that energy into the highshcool. This also might have some interesting implications on his relationship with Lila, with him being the one pushing her out of her confort zone every once in a while.>a fun story might be Jack desperately trying to get Arthur to try out FootballThere is a potential for comedy there, but good luck making a european admit that game is "football", let alone play it.
>>155358773I lurk in and out of threads on /co/ still, but I can't say I keep up to date totally on /coc/. Does witch stuff. The Moribund Marquess - The title is constantly changing hands. There could be a new one for any story. The Wavering Mason - Ruler of dreams. Could be good or bad depending on how delusional your protagonist is.The Yellow Jester - He's an asshole. The corrupter. He wants it all and will do anything in the pursuit of his own greed. The Glutton Lord - Head of a cult. A nice enough guy if you take his pamphlets. He can and will eat you alive. The Rune Keeper - A librarian who is one with the library, and the library spans an entire dimension. If you're looking to better yourself, he's a cool guy. If you're looking to steal his stuff, you're gonna die.The Devout Symphony - Ego supreme. Thinks of itself as capital G God. Likely an autonomous magic "machine" that gained awareness. Even more obsessed with laws and enforcing them. The Lonely King - Even greedier than Yellow, but no where near as cunning. No real legions to command, but his power is in a league of its own compared to the others. Wants to devour all of the magic. The Somber Maestro - Ruler of nightmares. Not particularly evil. Very much so in love. The Supreme Duke of Moaning - Party boy. Pimps, coats, more flamboyant than Diego. Lover of music and entertainers. He's the most up to speed on the going-ons of humans. The Blissful Lady - She makes and sells drugs. This isn't for the money, but to have an never ending supply of test subjects. Also a love freak whom even Sharpshipper would have to call "senpai". Succubi and incubi call her master.

>>155427273That was when Stargaze could sustain its own threads, relatively recently. Those things weren't happening in /coc/. I believe we were mainly receiving new Golden Girl updates at that time.
>>155427875So by my reckoning Witch, Marquess, Jester and Lord could all reasonably be put into the typically-villainous box under normal circumstances and, for example, deploy some demons in need of hunting. This is good to know, thank you for the summary.
>>155428470You could fit almost any of them into a villain role. But you could also fit at least half of them into the hero sponsor role.I'd say Lady is also in the "typically villainous" box.
>>155428820This is why I had to ask an expert, they mostly come off as deliberately morally grey and sometimes you just need a good old fashioned evil demon, you know?Lady's definitely villainous but seems best suited to a certain kind of villainy.
>>155429003She was a villain in the Lustbane-Sharpshipper-Heartbreaker story.
I feel kinda bad for not being able to contribute in any way, but not doing anything is better than doing something halfheartedly, I think, so I'll just keep going.
>>155412079How does he handle the unruly twins?
>>155429076Yeah, sex and drugs (and maybe rock and roll) is where she'd be useful, less so for possessed livestock or the like.>>155429351Considering the size differential he probably just picks them up by the scruff.
>>155429105I'd assume he's the one crew member that's closest (distance) to the captain at any one time, so I doubt he really has to deal with their shenanigans unless it's a direct order from Captain.I'd assume Sharpshipper may have times of shooting Simpley with love arrows to see him go at another crewmate for her amusement. He's just glad he made her happy
>>155428395I remember when /co/ Creation characters used to have their own threads but not any more.
>>155429454The Duke is more rock and roll. There is some overlap between them.

>>155426967>>155427273With Stargaze, we most likely rode one of the last waves of the 80s revival that peaked with Stranger Things. It was the right idea at the right time.Add a heroic, strong male protagonist whose supposed absence in the current age of animation most of /co/ is always lamenting.Add a little sister character that is a mix of /co/'s favourite little girls (she has elements of Wilykit, Gwen Tennyson and Penny Gadget at least) and that has a backstory that makes you want to protect her.Add a great degree of creative freedom, due to the episodic nature of the project and the general acceptance of new ideas. Tho' I'd say that this isn't completely true and too much attachment to old ideas drove away some people with skills as soon as thread 5 or 6.The engagement in the first couple of threads was incredible. Later there was a group of dedicated anons, with one prolific artist in particular and people creating stories (hello Zylix Anon). As I said before, everything ended when a bunch of discord kids, probably the same ones from the hyw threads, made the Stargaze threads their target.
