The whole point of it is to parody how race is in our world. Meaningless aesthetic differences between people of ultimately the same species that divides and socially segregates people for no real reason. Except in Homestuck there is a reason. The higher you go the physically stronger, longer living and psychically powerful you get. Now the actual comic muddy's the water of even this concept that it itself set up very badly, considering you half the cast are basically mutant freaks with powers far exceeding their castes standard abilities. Regardless Homestuck itself sets up that the hemo spectrum is a division of power that high bloods are basically better in every single way. But at that point it stops being equivalent to anything parodying the race situation of humans on Earth. More accurately depicts wealth disparity more than anything (not even dude.)This gets me back to Karkat. You see albino Karkat makes sense if you are imagining him and the hemospectrum as maintaining to the original idea of the comic ie it's an aesthetic difference that means nothing at all but ostracizes him for no reason. However we also know that being a mutant blood basically deprives him of every good thing a troll has. They're enhanced strength, durability, psychic powers what have you. So your suggestion of him being HIV in relation to his mutant status makes sense in that framework. This is all to say that Andrew hussie is in very smart and he got his metaphors mixed up halfway through writing the trolls and basically had to work with it from then on. I think a lot of the things with alternia are very stupid, which is why I don't often like comics that focus on trolls and troll world building because they usually fuck it up or are based off of a framework that is in itself fucked up.
