Immediately you could have Karla mocking Monica while the later is in the hospital in from being aggressively written out, but the time period is interesting. You just came off Armor Wars and still have John Walker Captain America. By ripping bits from Thunderbolts and Dark Avengers, you could have a Justin Hammer-funded Avengers team of dubious intent, saying the previous incarnation was a terrible failure. Maybe a claim that the IP and likeness for Iron Man is under ownership of Stane International instead of Stark Enterprises so Fixer and Beetle co-develop a new armor from a cannibalized mix of various technologies and their own knowledge (Bert might claim to be the Tony Stark in the relationship and Abe is the poor sap he sends to do his dirty work), a few more period appropriate fakes, and Captain America sent to join the group on government orders which causes something they need to work around. If Baron Zemo is secretly behind the team, then indirectly you have him and Red Skull competing without knowing it.
