Few threads ago somebody brought an idea of AI SpiderPhoenix anime opening
So I made it, guys
>https://youtu.be/9SXL1N1vX70

Yeah, I had to change Spider-Man's suit because even a mighty trillionaire submits to Disney's demand for censorship.

First demo scene will be posted within 24 hours

>>
>>155595299
I'm not a big fan of AI but using BN as the theme song is a perfect decision and harkening back to the anime rival roots is also a great idea. Bravo

The digital release is likely not coming out until the theatrical run is over in November. BND is too successful and now it's going to take forever to actually watch it in HD and get additional info

I think the reason we never got a Spider-man anime (unless you count Amazing Friends being animated in japan and resembles an old anime as a result) is because most Spider-man cartoons have a japanese dub that is released and easily accessible. Not much point in producing one when Japanese children already watch those

Comic Jean is an entirely different person and frankly in my opinion not as compelling. Any forced relationship for synergy is going to stink of rancid shit. Then again, that's what comics are pretty much nowadays.

Not helping is the fact that the digital release is delayed until potentially the end of the year due to the theatrical release being so successfful

Dunno. Supposedly, lately Elon gave in to censorship. Maybe Disney got pissed over all the fake Doomsday trailers. It is still not as bad as OpenAI tho.

>>155595945
TY. For me it is just a tool for us idea men to finally get our vision to come true. An imperfect tool (my blooper reel will be glorious), but far more accessible than any other way of making such animation.
It was fun to match the visuals to BN. Truly perfect song for such stuff.

I think the ideas here are on the mark but the AI itself didn't nail it.
Like the opening starting with Jean looming towards the camera in the middle of a city with rage in her eyes only for Spidey to show up and reach out. That perfectly encapsulates their dynamic and is how an anime would present the OP.
For the rest there's some issues. Of course the AI is way too detailed while a real anime would allocate the detail to the points where the viewer is supposed to focus. Some of the shots are awkward looking, and I think a real anime OP would rapidly jump between shots across the theme song rather than keep an entire scene or sequence multiple times over.

These aren't critiques aimed at you, I can imagine that creating a 1:1 replica of an anime OP would literally take days if not weeks so what you have here is fine. You're also right to be wary of the suit. Disney is triggerhappy with crease and desists even for fan projects.
>>
Is this going to be the first SpiderPhoenix thread to fall off the board before hitting bump limit?
>>
>>155602750
We are almost two months after the film came out and two months before the digital release. If there's any time for it to die of old age, now is probably it. There will still be fan content but the surge is over. The fanart in art hosting sites is slowly reverting back to comic and cartoon versions of Jean.

We never, ever get Jeans perspective on Peter after the "You have me" moment. So until that happens their dynamic is practically in stasis. In fact it might never even come up again. Reminder that the MCU loves dropping plot lines after setting them up.

This is a hard pill for this board to swallow, but Jean having a vague age means that theres tons of artists who will never touch this pairing. It would get a lot more content if we knew her exact numbered age.

But I've barely made any progress on my reading because I spend all my time lurking on /SpiderPhoenix/ and r/SpiderPhoenix lol. I've actually been the person that's been constantly making new spiderphoenix threads for a while now, occasionally, I'll leave for a couple hours and come back to prevent the thread from dipping too far by bumping it once it hits the 8th or 9th page.

We're nearly approaching the 40th Spiderphoenix thread but my activity is going to wane a bit once we cross that threshold though so if anyone wants to pick it up, be my guest. I think I'll be satisfied in letting the topic die once it makes to its 50th thread by then. It's a good milestone for a ship that's lasted this long.

Which likely means everyone else will take even longer to release their stuff.

No idea, but if I had to guess, it's possible that the tertiary producers were not given enough information about the movie itself beyond some characters that appear in it, with Jean Grey being a secret feature despite all speculation surrounding Sadie's role.
You can see that most of the promotional tie-ins treat either the Hulk or Scorpion as the main antagonists, and Funko itself made a Tombstone Funko pop despite his lack of presence overall.
Even now, Sony's PR refuses to address the character by her name.

That could've also contributed for the lack of Jean in... Anything really.
And this is corroborated by the fact that Jean isn't even mentioned in the concept art book, and the fact that both Destin & Kevin hadn't settled for a villain yet (as they mention in separate interviews).
>We wanted an antagonist that would be a real reflection of Peter Parker and where he is in his emotional journey.
>We went through a lot of potential villains and I cannot think of a better reflection than where we landed.
>I was really interested in having our antagonist be somebody who is younger than Peter. Who really represents, in many ways, what young people are going through right now and what they are feeling.
>This is a character who can literally jump into other people's minds, and experience the lives of other people, but she's also a person who is completely alone in this city and nobody really knows the REAL her, and that feeling, to me, felt like a young person's experience.
>Initially, we didn't know who that would be. We were talking about creating a fictional character, but then we started brainstorming on who could that be.
>So we started talking to Kevin: "Who on the roster can we pull from?" and Jean Grey became top of the list.

Just watched Brand New Day. Searched /tv/ then /co/ for threads. I have found my people.

Maybe this has been asked a million times - how on earth do Holland's Peter and Zendaya's MJ have such an utter lack of on-screen chemistry? They're married IRL and from what I've seen from interviews and promo stuff they seem to have solid chemistry IRL. But somehow their Spiderman chemistry is so lacking that a single scene between Peter and Jean felt more emotional and significant to me than all of the Peter/MJ shit throughout four movies.
>>
>>155632489
For some maniacal reason, Far From Home decided to skip the most important part of a love story. The part where they fall in love. So Peter and MJ love each other for no reason at all. It happens off screen when they did not get along in the movie prior. This is a crucial failure and as a result the pairing only appeals to two kinds of people. Zendaya stans and people with a parasocial obsession with Tom Holland.

I don't particularly ship spiderphoenix. It doesn't matter to me. Hell he can end up with Liz again for all I care. The problem is that we literally did not see Peter and MJ fall in love. Her characterization is also poorly defined.
>>
>>155632511
>For some maniacal reason, Far From Home decided to skip the most important part of a love story.
The Home trilogy is a bit of a blur to me. I thought Holland's Spiderman was alright in them but I disliked nearly all the other characters and thought the "iron man junior" stuff didn't work all that well. MJ and Ned could've been OK but they were turbo annoying to me because the writers for the movies made sure to heavily and clumsily insert them and their awkward antics into every facet of the plot. They should've been Peter's friends but never Spiderman's teammates, the latter was shit.

>I don't particularly ship spiderphoenix. (...) The problem is that we literally did not see Peter and MJ fall in love.
I don't necessarily ship them romantically either. Brand New Day didn't make me want to imagine them making out or anything. But it left me thinking "so this saga actually has the ability to establish an emotionally resonant connection between Peter and a woman of his age, and it only took a few scenes and sentences..." so why the FUCK is Peter's relationship with MJ so forced and soulless then? I can't figure out if it's a writing problem or an acting problem or both, but I found Peter's five minutes with Jean to be more compelling than four entire movies worth of MJ/Peter material.
>>
I have at last come to the conclusion that Brand New Day is a well directed, fun movie but the ending is terrible.
>movie about loneliness culminates in the two loneliest characters finding each other and saving each other's lives - only for one of them to abruptly get booted out of the story and sent on a bus ride
>the important and tragic story point of Peter's friends forgetting him is retconned by a handshake that just magically works despite previously established rules saying it won't
>big part of the movie's appeal is in the freshness and boldness of opening a new chapter of Peter's life - only for the ending to regress back towards the same tired bullshit that made the older movies a slog

This is the thing I don't like about this pairing. As a Spiderphoenix shipper it has these issues

>While the MCU is not strictly beholden to the comics, Peter and MJ are an "iconic" pairing which means that there is always the risk it overrides anything else
>Jean Grey has a strong dynamic with this movie, but she is an "iconic" X man which means her destiny is to be with the X-men and likely Scott

I don't like that this is how marvel movies work. They have to work around the e xisting legacies of these characters and "build" their futures. If BND was a self contained movie about new characters everyone would be like "why did the writers make Jean leave at the end"

WE know the answer is that she needs to be distant from Peter so that she can be one of the X-men instead of one of his supporting characters but we only accept that because its a Marvel movie. See what I mean? There's rules that apply only to Marvel and not normal stories.

It's a symptom of capeshit's structure and history, unfortunately. If writers accidentally stumble into something compelling, it'll only be allowed to continue if it aligns with the broader continuity and with everyone's "assigned positions" in the greater universe so they can be ready for the next big crossover event. Peter and Jean doesn't neatly align with any of that so it doesn't matter how compelling it is.
>>
>>155632857
I mean you can use this argument for street level Peter.

There is no good reason why MCU Peter Parker should be street level. None. The only reason fans like us want it is because of the appeal and it being comic accurate. It literally makes no functional sense for MCU Peter to be broke and struggling. He is too smart and too experienced. He fought Thanos in hand to hand combat and survived without an injury. He built a universal superpower inhibitor in less than a fucking day. There is no reason for him to run around in an easily damaged spandex suit when his previous suits hard armor padding. The whole street level thing is an awesthetic that the movie only has becuase "it's spider man" and it has to completely ignore what actually happened in this setting for that.

Same with Peter and the Hulk. That only happens because in the comics, The Hulk remembers. MCU Peter never fucking met the Hulk and there is LITERALLY no time span in the MCU that would allow this to happen before BND.

The characters iconography will shove their histories and personality out of the way.

>>
>>155633059
>Peter should not be broke and struggling

I mean this could be explained by the fact Peter was shutting himself off from everyone and not trying to get better mentally. He's basically depressed and only cared about being Spider-Man, getting by was good enough for him. The BND movie could have examined this better or at least future ones could.

Personally also feel like Spider-Man should mainly be street-level, but deal with huge threats on occasion, preferably with a team. Maybe get help from the X-Men with Jean by his side.

I don't really give a shit what those people say man. I am secure in my opinions and don't require the approval of strangers to maintain those opinions.

And I hate to pour a bucket of cold water over you anon but you should temper your expectations about the future. Peter/Jean is compelling but in the grand scheme of things it's probably just an anomaly that won't get much continuation. The directors and writers of capeshit care more about franchise scaffolding and roster building than about interesting character stuff or thematic resonance.
>>
>>155633623
Yeah the hate this ship gets is both pretty funny and cringe. Seen people try to get posts taken down because it won't be canon. Which sure, it might not be, but it's still fan content to be enjoyed and adds to the discussion. Like Petra Parker might never be canon either, but the cool fan content should still exist and not be hated for that reason alone.

And considering the anti-AI mindset these people also likely have, it's kind of sad to see them shut down such creativity.

What I initially expected out of the movie was to see Peter gradually becoming friends with his former circle again, because even though they forgot him he's still Peter and they still naturally get along. It'd also fit the film's themes on solitude, you need to actually put in an effort with people and maybe you can improve your situation. But as you said, they did the magic handshake to revert the problem which is cheap.
>big part of the movie's appeal is in the freshness and boldness of opening a new chapter of Peter's life - only for the ending to regress back towards the same tired bullshit that made the older movies a slog
Yep. I really really hope the director (who seems like he knows what he's doing) doesn't try to make MJ and Ned into Spiderman's teammates again. That sucked in the prior films.

I feel a lot of how MCU Spider-Man was structured contributes to this. Spider-Man is at its best in a long term serialized format which the writers conceptualize but forgot that the MCU is movies that come out every few years. So when they spend 2 movies jamming in Tony and the first movie with Liz, there's a huge chuck of screen time MJ doesn't get. The multiverse pivot for NWH was it for MJ. Second is that their characters don't have meaningful connections. Peter is timid because that's what nerds are in movies, and he needed to be like Tobey. MJ is a collection of quirks that didn't affect Peter as a person. Their most impactful on-screen moments were them separating and MJ telling Peter she doesn't know him rather than moments of them being together.
>>
>>155636120
That last one is a serious issue with their chemistry. MJ's personality only pulled strong reactions from Peter in Homecoming, when she literally did not like him and was being a dick.
One of the reasons people are attaching to Jean is because she is so off the deep end that everything involving her invites character interactions. They practically write themselves. A god mode street rat who doesn't respect responsibility but does respect Spider-man.

>What's the appeal of the ship?
Novelty, actor chemistry, enemies to friends trope.

Also a lot of people just don't accept Zendaya as MJ and never will due to a variety of reasons (poor writing and unappealing personality, lack of onscreen chemistry, the fact she's a brown haired black girl, Zendaya fatigue, or all of those) so when they see a character who looks like the real MJ sharing tender scenes with Peter, they latch onto it. Kind of the way a man stuck in a desert dying of thirst will worship the first shallow puddle of water he runs into, because it's a heavenly oasis compared to what he had to suffer through.

Jean is intentionally written as a "Dark" counterpart to Peter. There are intentional similarities and differences between them specifically meant to make you compare the two. Naturally this fuels shipping.

For me it's because the movie, perhaps accidentally, presents the Peter/Jean pairing as the solution or answer for the movie's central question.

BND is at its core really about loneliness, with Peter and Jean mirroring one another as the two loneliest characters. How do you escape loneliness and isolation? Peter mostly fails at reconnecting with his estranged friends, so he tries burying himself in his work to try and keep the depression at bay. It doesn't work. Jean tries to track down the only family she has left using increasingly violent and questionable means. It doesn't work.

But at the climax of the movie's third act these two characters get a chance to quietly bond without anything else getting in the way. They reach the unlikely realization (Peter reaches it first) that maybe if they have each other, they can escape their loneliness. This new bond is instantly put to the test. Peter takes a .50 cal bullet for Jean, Jean breathes in Peter's stead until he can breathe on his own again. Both pass the test. This is the answer the story gives us on how Peter and Jean might escape loneliness and find a path forward. Making new connections.

That's why the pairing lands for me. It's not that Peter/Jean happen to click, they as a duo are the movie's thesis made literal. BND doesn't just tell us how you beat isolation. The story shows it, and stakes its entire climax on it. Peter/Jean is the movie's answer to its own thematic question.

...all of this holds true until the final 5 minutes of the movie, which sadly undercuts nearly everything described up to this point. It abruptly puts Jean on a random bus to nowhere without any input from her (because she has to be in place for the X-Men movies). Then it regresses Peter's situation by restoring his friendship with Ned via a cheap shortcut that undercuts the previous tragedy (because you gotta have the designated Spiderman Social Circle™). This is why I said 'perhaps accidentally' earlier.
>>
>>155638110
yeah, unfortunately the story is still shackled to the grander MCU plans and brand synergy, but you know that if Jean was an OC, she would've stayed at the end
>>
>>155638110
you touched on something i've thought about since watching the film, which is how it spends most of its runtime showing boldness and advocating for a brand new chapter. but then like you said in the last 5 minutes it abruptly pulls a 180, throws away what it advocated for by unceremoniously dumped jean out of the story while reverting peter to the same old status quo. it's like the film was at the cusp of starting a really interesting new trilogy that feels like an unpredictable brand new day (heh) but then it chickens out at the last minute

I’m on chapter 4 of “The Future We Chose”, it’s been pretty kino so far. It strongly addresses the bad shit Jean did without demonizing her. It uses the fact that Peter still loves MJ and isn’t a complete doormat for Jean but does her find her attractive. He’s open to being her friend and the level of back and forth between the two is pretty damn good. There’s a clear sense of communication between the two. The best part about it is that Peter doesn’t want to jump straight into a relationship not just because of them basically only knowing each other for a day but he doesn’t want to be with Jean because he doesn’t want to be alone anymore but because he chose her. Jean actually relates to this because she came to realize she couldn’t make Peter her replacement for Sara, where she’s trying to fill in the empty space left by her sister. The way the author approaches this makes me feel like this depiction of SpiderPhoenix would be the most realistic approach the MCU could take.
>>
>>155637347
Granted I was never that much of an Asuka/Shinji fan. But it fits. As for the movie, I'd take 2 minutes that basically a Steven Universe episode tier "you can be better than this, Jean." over CGI destruction. It makes it feel more of a elseworld if we have Peter interact with a character he doesn't do much with in canon. It reminds me of a good version of the Flash; where Zod shows up to be the antagonist. But here they at least wrote Jean in such a way that she's actually fun.

>>155637460
>>155637473
>>155638110
These fit too. I don't hate Peter's friends but the whole theme of much of the recent MCU is to move on and it'd be harmful if he just kept hanging with them again because of bullshit. And no, I'm not a racist. I don't think Sadie is that pretty. She's just playing a more interesting character than Michelle, who despite Zendaya being a tolerable actress, is written like a lot of the rest of the MCU love interest in that she's boring as shit. I like her interacting with other characters more than Peter. The best part of NWH was GarfieldPeter and her's little arc. Though that CGI landing is godawful.

I know this is a hot topic but I want to talk about how BND is basically an example itself of all the things everyone a worried about.
We don't want Jean to go through the same arcs she already did in the previous two versions but she most likely will because that's what people expect from her. Just look at Bruce. His entire status quo for reset because fans wanted savage hulk back. The movie doesn't even explain it.
Suddenly Hulk is back to being Bruce as a monster instead of hating being called Bruce and being somewhat sentient
>>
>>155640981
it's a what if scenario where Jean meets Peter before she meets Spider-Man
>>
>>155640606
I played it a while back and it was unironically more romantic than every single romance in Naruto despite it not even being explicitly a romance, though the bar is very low. Nanashi unironically should’ve been his real love interest.

>*Leaves* because she needs to set up the upcoming X men movie that will come out when she's 30
Sure Peter did tell her to leave but... she wasn't even wanted by the police. She was wanted by Damage Control who is not only on the run but she literally had abilities that nullify anyone who would come for her. This is just dumb.

X-posting from /tv/:
The truth is: the social circle of MCU Peter Parker is shit. Liz, Ned, Flash, MJ, etc. The teenagers from his school. Some of them are miscast, all of them are unappealing or annoying or boring in their own way. They don't bring anything interesting out of Peter, and he doesn't bring out anything interesting out of them. MJ in particular sucks. Aunt May was the only one I liked.

So every time MCU Spidey breaks free from these people or spends time with someone new, it is a breath of fresh air. The Jean Grey connection is simply the most extreme example of this, helped greatly by the fact she looks like the real MJ and by the fact Tom Holland and Sadie Sink have a natural chemistry that's almost as good as Garfield-Stone.
>>
Give Ultimate Spider-man a read. Hell give Marvel Adventures Spider-man a read. Those stories have their problems but they don't really infantilize Peter as much

The MCU Spider man friend group feel like teenagers written by an adult who thinks Teenagers are cute silly cartoons. Betty Brant is annoying whenever she's onscreen and she's one of the biggest examples. Flash too.

why is this ship so popular in asia? all the fanart i see is anime coded and half the fics are in moon rune language
>>
>>155659944
Rival pairings are extremely popular in japan and unlike america most asian countries have no stigma against falling in love with someone who you might have a "family" dynamic with
Also the age gap is a non issue outside of the west
>>
>>155659944
I think it's less that it's super popular in asia and more that the different cultural hangups in america and britain hold it back from rising as high as it can

Simply put

>Black girlfriend trope
This isn't really anyone's fault but it is an unfortunate trend of introducing a black female lead and having her fall out with the superhero so he can have a better white girlfriend. This has happened so many times that it's actually weird that it's a nameable thing. So people will argue any instance of this is racist. I would argue that it really isn't so much as a really odd coincidence

And yes there are spiderphoenix fans who are openly racist just like there are any group. This will be used against the ship

>Age gap
This one the movie does not help. Punisher says "She's a teenager?" in response to something Peter says offscreen. Many, many people are assuming that means she's between the ages of 13 and 17. Inappropriate for a relationship with a 22 year old man. There is no area in the united states where that wouldn't be met with disgust. Jean's age is not specified but Feige says she's close in age to Peter. I think the most reasonable guess is 19. 17 is not close to 22. She seems way too self assured and dominant to be a teenager I think. She had 0 awkwardness in her throughout the movie and ALL MCU teenagers are awkward.

>She's literally Jean Grey
This one is a real threat to the pairing. The X-men are more popular in the west than the east while spider man is equally popular world wide. So most Japanese people did not care about Jean until this movie while americans already know she's supposed to be Scott's girlfriend and part of the X men. She's an adaptation of a character with an iconic history and people have expectations that she stick to that instead of doing something that just hasn't been done before.

>Sibling Coded
the most deranged critique. People believe that she and Peter see each other as siblings
>>
>>155660065
I ran out of post characters but I have to specify that "Sibling coded" is a western exclusive problem. Nobody in asia uses that against pairings.
>>
>>155659944
unlike westerners, we aren't as excited by blacks in media. Peter's black oneitis sucks in every way. Jean is cool and if she were an OC with no Xmen history, i think many more people would ship it

but don't underestimate general audiences. i watched BND at a fully packed showing and when he said "you have me" people really reacted to that and i heard several groups of people talking about how tender that was. it's not just an internet culture thing that likes this dynamic
>>
Peter having two freakishily intelligent black girls in a row (both taller than him) and then damaging the relationship on his own before ending up with a shorter, extremely abrasive white girl is funny in a sort of functional sense
>>
>>155660100
>it's not just an internet culture thing that likes this dynamic
I was very surprised that, when I took my least-online cousin to see this movie when he was visiting our town, he wished Jean kissed Peter on the cheek as a thank you after he said "you have me" when I asked if he would change anything about the movie itself right after we finished watching it.
I didn't even mention the ship to him or anything...
>>
>>155660100
>>155660214
The “you have me” scene is the scene that really unlocked people’s brain regarding the ship. It’s so good and I consider it a romantically platonic scene, where it can be taken both ways. It’s truly intimate.

>The “you have me” scene is the scene that really unlocked people’s brain regarding the ship
I think it's the triple threat of
>"you have me"
>Peter instantly confirms the truth behind his words by tanking the bullet while holding Jean
>Jean panics and drops the mean girl act, and commits her first benevolent act by breathing for Peter to save him
happening in quick succession. As grand gestures go, this will be hard to outdo in future movies.
>>
>>155660778
That is a very good combo. Yeah, it’s easy to see why the ship would hook people.

Punisher also call Peter a "good kid" at the end of the movie in the hospital. Jon Bernthal is 50 so the Punisher is probably in his 40s. A 19 year old is a teen and a 21 year old like Peter is a kid to him. His understanding of both their ages is vague or distorted at best. We've yet to get a definitive age for Jean and everyone is projecting

So I see this comparison a lot and I think there is some nuance that gets missing when its formatted into a checklist.

Does Jean sexually assault Peter? Yes. Absolutely. That is a morally reprehensible thing to do to someone and the story addresses it.
Does Killgrave sexually assault people? Fuck, he RAPES MANY PEOPLE repeatedly. Over and over.

I think people are forgetting that these interactions inform these characters. They aren't supposed to be role models. Jessica Jones is not a role model character. She's someeone you observe. You aren't supposed to like everything Jean does (I do).
Killgrave has no comprehension that what he's doing is rape. He gave up his humanity because the nature of his powers means he literally cannot have a genuine dynamic with anyone. It's a very complex dynamic.
He doesn't just want to break Jessica. He WANTS Jessica. He is fascinated by Jessica. He can't live without her. He loves her in a twisted way. Even when he hurts her it's like a pouty child trying to get attention from a parent. It's a twisted and inhuman dynamic. He actually cringes at the word "Rape". As far as he's concerned he makes people consent. He is dangerously innocent.

He is something of a commentary on the nature of rape. Not every rapist was consciously doing the act, they thought they were following signals.

Jean is not a commentary on rape or consent. Her powers are more along the lines of a standard saturday morning suite. Yes she uses them for vile things but unlike Killgrave the story is not about consent. The tone of BND changes. Does this create an inconsistency in the universe? Yes. But it isn't a big deal.

Jean is also entirely aware that forcing MJ to kiss Peter was a vile thing to do. That is the reason she did it. She was trying to get him to fuck off by any means necessary. She was trying to crush his spirit so that he leaves her alone.

The SpiderPhoenix AI series anon here.

I have published the 2nd demo scene. In this one, we learn that being Jean Grey is being suffering.

The style went progressively more photo-realistic, to a bigger degree than intended. But the progression itself was intended, to artistically demonstrate Jean's increasingly depressed state.

I've seen a lot of people argue that when you look at how destructive Jean is, that her mother made the only logical choice
>>
>>155671461
kek
>>
>>155672948
The bit with the mother is taken almost straight from from my fanfic Jean Grey: Back in the Day, only some changes were made to put emphasis on Jean's desire to save Sara.

Anyway, if you are interested in how I see Jean's relationship with her mother, you can read the fanfic. It's in canon with the series.

I'm yet to catch up but from what I've seen so far in the From the Ashes it seems like Scott is her only love and they are in a long distance relationship due to her being in space.
>>

I like Cyclops and he is my favorite among the X-Men, but I'm fine if he ends up with Jean or someone else.

In most comics, games and animation anyway, Scott x Jean always ends up together

Someone posted earlier. In the mangaverse there are two issues focused on Miles (Symbiote) and X23 (Phoenix)
X23 attempts to harness the phoenix force and miles temporarily stops her using the symbiote. The symbiote then takes over miles completely and Ezekiel Simms shows up and takes on some kind of twisted venom symbiote transformation with it. X23 takes on the phenix force in full and sacrifices herself while freeing Miles, then giving the Phenix to Magik who defeats the symbiote using it
>>

Yes. Literally they do an exact parody of Naruto's Team 7. The set up being that Magik and X23 are Rivals and Miles tries to break them apart. Then it turns out Miles is actually the deranged one who was manipulated by an evil master into attacking X23. It's doing an homage to tragic rivalries and anime characters being long time friends forced to fight each other. Miles loses control over the symbiote nearly killing everyone on earth. The only way to stop it is the phoenix force and X23 is the only person who knew it could be used, so she ends up sacrificing herself. Miles and Magik reconcile and then Miles goes off on a Journey, suddenly X23 is resurrected as a Yokai. She is basically the same only she has horns and fangs. the end.
>>
>>155677593
Apparently the end of the original mangaverse was focused on Peter and Jean (Don't get excited, they weren't even in the same issues) and that is why the phoenix and the spider clan are a big deal presently
>>
>I want the Naruto and Sasuke dynamic where Spider-man and Phoenix save each other from their respective alien supermodes
>MONKEY PAW CURLS
>>
It makes sense to do that with legacy characters in the comics since Peter and Jean's entire dynamic is just "we're kind of nice to each other".
Still weird to use X23 instead of someone Jean is actually tied to and interacts with.
The MCU still has an opportunity.
>>
I don't know if there's a better thread for this. I missed out on all the movie discussion weeks ago.

What the fuck were Jean's powers? Because it's definitely not telepathy. She could possess people, see their memories, put a 1 kilometer section of New York into stasis, telekinetically control glass shards, and somehow keep Peter's heart beating despite having a .50 cal hole in his chest.

Is this just another case of magic bullshit powers that do whatever the plot needs?
>>
>>155678088
Starts out as telepathic possession but evolves into all kind of magic bullshit powers.

Jean's main power was Inhabiting. that is the word they use in the movie and behind the scenes. In the movie she possesses people. Yelena had to clarify that it isn't brainwashing, it's possession.
She is able to control someone but she is also subject to things that happen to them. She physically recoiled when Hulk was smashed in the head and started twitching when he was escaping her control. That is the standard version of her power.

She "Evolved" similar to Peter after Damage control started torturing her. After that point she basically just has the full power pack of Jean Grey abilities which allowed her to freeze the city and start physically controlling multiple objects and people.
>>
>>155678163
