Last time we read Transformers: The War Within, Simon Furman's take on the beginning of the Autobot-Deception war and how Optimus Prime became leader. Now we read War Within: The Dark Ages, a sequel to the prequel where Optimus and Megatron have both disappeared and Autobots and Decepticons alike must face a new enemy in the form of The Fallen.Previous storytimes:>>155585602>>155611457

>>155633930All this time I never really realized that Andrew Wildman did the art here, it's a far cry from his 80's Marvel work which I appreciate but did look like humans in costumes. It's pretty impressive that he could mimic the Dreamwave/Don Figueroa style so well.

After The Dark Ages, Dreamwave released a third War Within series, which turned out to be the last. In War Within: The Age of Wrath, Ultra Magnus has reached an accord with the Decepticons, seemingly bringing an end to their war. But everything changes when Megatron returns.

To be continued never. Originally The Age of Wrath was planned to be another six issue miniseries, but Dreamwave went bankrupt halfway through and only three issues were ever released, ending the War Within saga. Next time we jump forward in time for the second volume of Transformers Generation 1.

Outside of a few glimpses of Murder Prime I'm kind of surprised the Dreamwave comics avoided the usual pitfalls associated with licensed comics based on nostalgic properties around the timeI know there was one guy last thread calling it edgy but compared to similar comics around the time and even a decade later, Dreamwave's Transformers doesn't come across as "try hard"That's what Bayformers was for
You know, I think Dark Ages' basic set up's kind of interesting, seeing Autobots and Decepticons broken up into smaller factions. It's neat seeing who leads and who ends up with who
>>155637317Causing this era of being edgy is just a other weird particular nitpick a certain crowd had about it that just became repeated ad nauseum
>>155633930Imagine telling people from 2003 that there will be live action Transformers movies and this guy will be the villain of the second one.Imagine telling them that if they wait more than 20 years one day The Fallen will have a toy that looks this cool.>>155639404For the most part none of it was any edgier than the movie was, I think some very vocal people in Transformers fandom just wanted to hate the Dreamwave comics.
>>155640031IIRC RotF Fallen was supposed to be on fire but something went wrong and they couldn't render the flames
>>155640031>Imagine telling people from 2003 that there will be live action Transformers movies and this guy will be the villain of the second one.And then six years later their dreams are crushed completely.
