Not really a comicbook fan but I vaguely know the lore.The future of the new Spidey trilogy feels like it's going to get caught in a tug-of-war between following the story where it naturally leads, and following the need to stay aligned with the comics and the wider franchise.When I look at Brand New Day in isolation, it looks like it's going to allow Peter to fly solo a lot more compared to the past. It looks like Jean Grey is going to be a prominent Spiderman character in the future even though she's gone into hiding for the moment. It looks like MJ is going to become a friend in a bittersweet way, rather than a romantic interest again. It looks like Spiderman feuding with large organizations such as the DOTD is a realistic future. All of this is what the story seems to be naturally building towards if you've never watched a Marvel movie before.But when you stop looking at the movie in isolation you realize how unlikely that all is because it's out of alignment with the outside forces. Peter has a trademark friend group that Marvel wants to always have a big presence in his films. Jean Grey is actually a major character from another Marvel subfranchise so she's likely not coming back aside from brief cameos. The actors for Peter and MJ are married so they're likely going to gravitate towards reigniting the romance even though it'll feel unnatural in the story. When Jean is trying to force Peter to "Accept" that he is Spider man and not Peter Parker the unspoken part of that is "Be like me". Jean doesn't have an alias in the MCU but she has clearly submitted herself to becoming just "Marvel Girl" or whatever you'd call her. I think that moment clarifies why she is so destructive and callous towards the normies, she sees them as a completely different superhuge entity.
