Before being brought to the damage control building, jean was having fun. It was a serious situation and she wanted to save her sister, but she was clearly enjoying the ride along the way. After finding out her sister was dead, it wasn't fun anymore. Peter wasn't just a toy to mess around with but a damage control stooge who was trying to convince her not to punish the people who made her suffer.
>>
Watching the movie with the japanese dub, Jean sounds a little older and more serious in that dub compared to english
>>
>>155758998
That's peculiar

>>
In the scene where Jean possesses the black pedestrian, you can see some of the other predestrians getting distracted by her conversation with spidey, including one of the people she will possess shortly later to taunt him
>>
Spends her life toying with people around her to body hop to use at random for shits n giggles. Make people walk into traffic. But she is the victim for being captured.
>>
>>155758112
Does anyone have a torrent of the Japanese version yet? With the Mrs green apple song at the end
>>
>>155759256
not likely considering you have to buy the actual japanese blu ray to do that. switching the dub language on an english copy will not change the ost
>>
>>155759211
They don't explore it much but this Jean seems to believe that you get to be either human or superhuman, and if you're superhuman that means you have to be as pragmatic and violent as possible. she is meant to be wrong but the movie doesn't really discuss what any of this really means so a lot of people are thinking she might be mutant supremacist or something

I think the general idea is that she sees herself as one of the monsters. She mocks Peter and Banner for trying to "bury the monster that lives inside you". I think that implies that she believes you shouldn't bury it at all. I think that's what the movie is going for. She thinks the muzzles are the pathetic option.

She also uses the word "monster" to describe everybody though so it's tough. "Monster" seems to be the arc word of the movie considering how many characters say it. Peter calls Jean a monster. MJ says the limiter is for monsters. Jean calls the "Arachnid mode" and the Hulk monsters.
Perhaps there is a hierarchy of monsters in jean's mind, and those at the top get to treat those lower like shit.
On the other hand they probably did not consider what walking an old man into traffick would imply about Jean as a character

Any good ideas for what could be a fun mind control mechanic?
Still trying to figure out how to make the mind control mechanic fun in a game perspective.
- One option I'm considering is to make the character move in a 2D grid like a pokemon game, and mind control guards and other characters to get stuff.
- The other option I'm thinking is making it all dialog based with Jean triggering dialogs depending on who she has controlled. Feels like that'd be the most natural one, but for every character the choices may grow exponentially. I get now why they say visual novels are difficult.

To be fair that's how supremacy and jingoism goes even irl.
>"Its okay to invade their lands and take their resources because we're bringing European culture in exchange"
>"We can bomb them because we're giving them FREEDOM. White man's burden"
>"Allah/Yahveh has made us the chosen ones so its okay if we bomb their schools and hospitals, we have a divine right to do so"
I dare say its a very human aspect to it and I love that Jean embodies it as a mutant. I find her far more interesting than boring comics/Evolution Jean.
>>
>>155761082
Evolution, WAtxM Jean and TAS Jean all have a very ruthless side and have all misbehaved when in a bad mood even without the Phoenix .Evo Jean comedically uses her powers on people who annoy her, Wolverine and the X Men Jean slammed Emma for trying to kiss Scott. Animated series Jean got really petty and unreasonable when she found out about her clone.

MCU Jean seems to be like this because she has no professor X

I think Jean has a crush on Peter. One sided. Everyone says that her switching to a good guy was too fast but a crush would actually explain that better than anything.
Even if she "hated" him for most of the movie you can tell she enjoys being around him
>>
>>155762666
I mean, maybe that's my schizoid ramblings taking my mind again, but there might be some original takes that lean into this, as Jean's extended featurette from the Behind-the-scenes compilation shows us that she was supposed to be more enthusiastic when meeting him near the vault.
>Hi, Peter!
>Jean...
>You looked me up! I'm blushing...
It would also explain why Sink calls it a "weird connection", something that couldn't be explained under "normal" circumstances.

Jean would probably be too pessimistic and scared to really trust Peter's "you have me", she'd likely think it was just him saying that to calm her down

>>
This ship needs to have some kind of tragedy behind it. Maybe Peter is permanently stuck on MJ
Maybe Jean falls for him but Peter tries to push her towards Cyclops
Symbiote arc or Phoenix arc or both causing permanent emotional scarring
Maybe they end up together but Peter dies
>>
>>155766222
>I only hated that she took the bus and fled the city.
Seemingly more and more people are becoming aware of just how weird her sudden departure is.
>inb4 she was wanted by the authorities
So is Frank, yet he drives around and stays in hospitals without anyone bothering him. Also Jean can just telepath her way out of any problem now so the authorities really aren't a threat to her. It was just clumsy storytelling.
>>
>>155766222
Even if you don't ship it it's weird for a movie to end on the two lonely characters leaving each other so one can be even more alone and the other can go kickstart all of his dead freindships.

All of the counter arguments require an appeal to the MCU as a constant "set up" franchise
>she has to leave to set up the x men
>jean is not a spider man character so she has to go
>The authorities would arrest her (the authorities were actually after Damage control and have no idea who she is and they let FRANK CASTLE get away)
>>
frank and peter having a brotherly bond at the end is also stupid because frank is still going to kill criminals who are much lower tier than the main evil guy in this movie
>>
>>155767152
Yeah its pretty dumb when you analyze it
>>
>>155766222
it's stupid because it completely undermines Jean's struggle as soon as it was revealed.
>I don't wanna be alone
>I won't leave you alone
>*dies*
>she stays to keep him alive, who know for how long
>IMMEDIATELY LEAVES AFTER HE WAKES UP.
>Person whose main struggle was that she didn't want to be alone, immediately leaves person who promised to be by her side, in order to be, in fact, alone
Who wrote that shit?
>>
>>155767906
yeah it's dumb
>>
>Peter sitting on a rooftop knowing that Jean is alone again
>ahh well i better go blow Ned's mind
>>
Headcanon: Jean can't jump into Peter for the same reason Peter is going through ultra puberty. His body thinks he's a spider. Her brain thinks she's a spider. Her brain has a safety measure to stop her from jumping into the body of a lower creature like a spider and losing all of her higher functions
>>
>>155768167
to be fair, he has no clue where to start looking for her
>>
>>155768482
He could use those flock cameras and scan for her face again. Or track her by smell using those upgraded spider-senses.
>>
I wonder if friendly neighborhood was intended to synergize with this movie since they both have a scene where Peter completely loses his mind and starts viciously beating Scorpion until someone stops him

Monster

The word is said eight times in Brand New Day

Banner says it first, while talking to Peter. Warning that he won't turn into monster due to his inhibitor

The second person to say it is Jean. She's referring to his spider mode. She asks if he's trying to get rid of it.

The third person to say it is Peter. After Jean kisses him and then uses MJ's body to taunt his foolishness.

Jean then says it again after Peter's eyes engage Spider mode. She asks him who the monster is now.

MJ is the fourth person to say it. Saying that inhibitors are only for monsters, not for someone who's just changing.

Jean says it again through Banner's body. Taunting both Peter and banner for trying to control the monster

Banner says it again. He says his inhibitor is the only thing that can control the monster inside.

Jean says it one last time during her climactic rant. She says people are monsters and you can't trust any of them.
>>
>>155769155
Interesting tid-bit, I suppose.
Through this analysis, it could be interpreted that Jean plays over Peter's definition of "monster" up until their final confrontation, where she reveals her thoughts about how monsters actually look like.
Peter and Banner see their powers as monstrous, Jean sees it as part of being special, and MJ ignores the debate about if the powers are what makes them, giving her thoughts on Spider-Man as a person, instead.
Also, there's technically another mention of the "monster" word tree, through the word "monstrous", which I feel incapsulates what they really are, push comes to shove.
>Sometimes, because you're special, people can do dark, monstrous things to you.
>But... This is what I want you to know: you're beautiful, and the people who love you, we love you not because you're special. We love you because you're you.
>>
>>155769155
Interesting that monster might be the most commonly used non proper noun in the movie
>>

Jean Dewolff is a character from the comics. They chose her because she's one of the few known named cops that are on friendly terms with Spidey.
>>155766908
Jean's first death will probably push him to the edge a bit.
>>
If this shit doesn't go through then I hope Scott ends up cheating on Jean, and then Jean kills herself before they have a chance to make up. Also Peter will spend the next few movies trying to get with MJ again for some reason but Paul cockblocks him everytime. It's comic-accurate too!

The one that allows Jean to enjoys the chase and the violence as long as Peter engages with it; the one that made her lock him in place the moment she heard he was there to save her; the one that made her beat him up just so he could learn the lesson that they are the same.

The same connection that has Peter actively worry about Jean when he thinks she's going out of her league with the Hulk.
The same connection that has Peter wishing to question her (even before finding out about Sara) instead of treating her as an one-and-done villain.
Connections tend to be two-sided, after all.

I kinda want to watch this movie, but I don't want to go to a theater, because apparently some theaters nearby are still playing it. And I know it's up for streaming, but I also don't want to pay Youtube $30 to watch it.

Jean needing to be a secret in all BND marketing stuff is fucking annoying since we all knew it was Jean as soon as she was cast. Everyone knew it would be either Jean or Firestar. So while every other character gets to discuss their development and internal process Sadie has to avoid discussing her character entirely
>>
I know he's still recovering in this scene but he seems a bit sad, disappointed, and confused when Frank tells him Jean just left. Almost like it makes no sense she would just go (it doesn't) or he thinks he might have lost a possibly important connection.

Kevin and Amy, please don't let this go to waste. Give the people something they never knew they wanted before.
>>
>>155786891
There is always the interpretation that when Peter told her to go he simply meant hide but because there was blood gushing from his back he didn't try to be more specific

Jean on the other hand interpreted it that she has to leave;
And yes of course as others have said Jean is destined to live at the X mansion so they simply couldn't have had an ending where she lives with him. That would only work if it was Firestar, the actual X-girl who lived with Peter
>>
>>155786891
It would be dumb not to capitalize on this dynamic. The previous generation of avengers already ran their course
>>
So how is Peter's identity a secret? He has no mask in the hospital room and it is littered with gifts from fans. There is clearly no security because the fucking Punisher is hanging out in that room
>>
Given how they're both mutated freaks I'm pretty sure their children would just be cancer cells that would kill Jean from within.

You know what's funny is that even if they try to have Jean get together with Scott, they are gonna have a REALLY fucking hard time trying to get them to have the same degree of chemistry as Jean has with Peter. Like if JeanxScott is the endgame here, they made a horrible decision by having Jean debut in Spider-Man's film.

It's funny, cause if you were going to have a dynamic Jean and Scott relationship, you'd do pretty much exactly what BND did: have Jean be a loose canon that boy scout hero Scott helps convince to chill in a mental hug session. But now they can't do that, cause she's already done it with Peter!

Poor Scott. Been a rough time for him this year. Probably gonna get Obi-Wan'd in Midnight X-Men too.

Peter singlehandedly defeating the hand offscreen is hilarious considering the amount of nightmarish shit they put the netflix heroes through
>>
>>155788656
He didn't even have his power boost then!

It's easy to fluff it as it actually was some big epic crossover with all the Netflix heroes and they just didn't show up in the montage or get mentioned at all in BND by coincidence.
>>
>>155788656
I'd imagine he kinda struggled to find the "deeper" criminal elements at first. Remember back in Homecoming when he just tried to look for crime by swinging around the city? Once he became Spider-Man full time and really homed in on all the bigger issues, I'd imagine shit went bad real fast for those guys. None of them were really equipped to deal with someone on his level. He's an Avengers-tier superhero who chooses to focus exclusively on New York City.
>>
>>155788656
>Enhanced physical strength and durability

>>
>>155788862
Yeah. Peter was already crazy strong back in Homecoming. Like he was insanely green, but he still managed to hold that ship together for a bit. I don't think there's literally anyone in the Netflix street crew who's even remotely prepared to deal with someone like him.

I mean power-wise, he's basically Daredevil x100.

>>155788415
What worries me is that they have terrible chemistry but people are insisting theirs are great just to deny Peter and Jean. You know they will.

Do you guys have any idea what Jean's role in Secret Wars would be? My fanfic idea is that she is one of the few people who remember pre-Battleworld, she encounters her Peter who also remembers and they both embark on a journey to find those that do to stand against Doom. But her and Peter's screentime are significantly devoted to each other aka knowing how Secret Wars will film Tom and Sadie would work onscreen together often.

That's what I've been thinking since August. Unlike most people here I'm not actually opposed to a Scott/Jean romance in the movies but if that's the plan then Brand New Day was a mistake, and Jean shouldn't have been introduced until the X-Men movie or something. Every attempt to make emotionally intimate scenes between Scott and Jean will almost certainly feel like a pale imitation compared to what transpires between Peter and Jean in the torture chamber at Damage Control.
>>
Honestly, even if he doesn't get with Jean, I hope he doesn't get back with MJ. She's kind of a dull character in general and I'm tired of her. I did find it interesting how even after learning the truth, MJ didn't recover her memories, yet Ned was able to remember. So maybe that's meant to show that MJ's moved on, whereas Ned's fixation on Spider-Man was meant to show he never did.

Anyway, here's hoping Peter and Jean have good scenes in Secret Wars. It's about the only goddamn thing I'm looking forward to from this franchise.

It's kinda mushy and corny, but it's nice how everyone just likes Peter. The entire city likes Spider-Man, Yelena likes Spider-Man, Jean comes to like Spider-Man, even the Punisher likes Spider-Man. His friendship with Peter's the healthiest relationship this Frank has by a landslide.

You really get the sense that Spider-Man just makes everyone's lives brighter.

Not really related to Peter/Jean but how pathetic is Peter for pining over MJ for so long?

I kind of get why he's so sad about losing Ned, they were childhood best friends right? But he met MJ in high school and dated for like a few months before the spell. You can't tell me he then spent 4 years emotionally devastated because he could no longer date her. That's a loss a person would recover from after like a year or two. I know because I've been there, and even after the worst most tragic breakup you still end up moving on one way or another after a period of time.

It doesn't feel realistic to me for Peter to pine so much over a relatively short relationship with someone he didn't even know that long. I'd understand if he lost a parent or someone he knew his entire life, but it's not the case.
>>
>>155794330
I would’ve said maybe it’s because MJ’s his first love but then I remember Liz Allan.
>>
>>155794330
under normal circumstances, yeah it's really pathetic, but considering he spent his teenage years fighting criminals, died for 5 years, came back, got his identity revealed and became a controversial celebrity for months and then erased his own existence, it's understandable that he'd get fixated on what he used to have, even if it didn't last long. Though it would work better if he actually moved on after being dumped in this movie, instead of getting back with MJ in the next one

I think the movies want you to think that MJ is really something special. Like, truly special in a way that is immediately obvious to everyone, and that's why Peter being so obsessed with her should seem self-explanatory to you. That's why you have multiple characters telling Peter "I can see why you like MJ, she's so ____."

The problem is that even though we're told MJ is special, we're never really shown it. I really have no idea how to describe Zendaya's MJ other than... sometimes she has a dry, ironic sense of humor. That's it. Other than that, she's kind of an amorphous blob of a character who does not have any definition to her other than 'Spiderman's love interest.'

I think part of it is also just that Peter hasn't really had any meaningful interactions with anyone in a very long time. He keeps DeWolfe at arm's length and he even moved out of his old apartment because he couldn't deal with the possibility of human interaction. That girl noticing him on the elevator spooked him so much that he decided to live in a shitty attic. He doesn't even talk to food delivery people, he just has them leave the food at the door.

So when you consider what kind of life he's been living, it makes sense that he'd cling to the last two human beings left alive that he has a strong emotional attachment to. Realistically, Peter hasn't actually known MJ that long, but because she was the only serious relationship he's ever had (for all of one year), it means too much to him. He doesn't allow himself to form relationships, so that one romantic relationship he did have was infinitely special to him. Same with Ned. Ned wasn't just his best friend, he was pretty much his ONLY real friend. We never see him hanging out with anyone else.

Now that Peter's made the decision to come out of his shell, he might be able to move on from MJ. Or they'll have them get back together, I dunno. I don't care for her, but let's not pretend there's not a real possibility of him happening because Sony and Marvel have been known to make stupid decisions before.
>>

I never felt this way about Tobey's webs, but Holland's organic webs are kinda gross. Like just the sheer, insane volume he can splurt from just his wrists is gross.

I rewatched the movie a few days and I dunno, even though the writers talked about this being the moment Peter decides to move on, I still feel like the movie paved the path for an eventual reconciliation between MJ and Peter. Even though it would be a shit idea for a variety of reasons, it still felt like that's what the movie was slowly inching towards.
>>
>>155797113
I mean it was always an abomination, but I just can't help but think about the sheer volume of web fluid his wrist sacs must contain. I mean Jesus Christ, what the fuck is going on in there?

Also, one funny thing I feel that no one ever addresses is that Peter deliberately engineered his artificial webs to only last an hour or two. Real spider silk isn't supposed to dissolve that fast. In fact, they can really last a damn long time if left alone. So it'd be funny if Peter had to deal with the fact that the webs he uses to just swing around the city last fucking forever.

I don't think they're actually comparable to Spider-Man. It's clear that 1v1, they're no match for him, even prior to taking off the inhibitor. I think he had the advantage until the guards with the web-disruptors showed up. That caught him completely off-guard.

It's clear that the ninjas are capable of crazy shit. You can clearly tell that they're physically enhanced. It's just that individually, they're absolutely not in Peter's league, even with the inhibitor.

I don't really get Gargan's deal. He's just a dumbass with an exosuit. Which is what he was in the comics, but there, he was permanently stuck to the suit. Here, it looks like he can just take it on and off. Which means there's nothing special about the guy. Gargan's value was tied entirely to the suit, so if you can have the suit without Gargan, then he's completely pointless.

I'd imagine it was a deliberate choice to create a stronger contrast with how utterly hollow his civilian life is. Plus, they already sort of went through that arc in No Way Home.

My guess is the first year or two were more tumultuous times for him, but over time, the fact that he's basically devoting all his time to keeping New York safe probably earned him a ton of fans. Compared to comics Peter, this Peter has a number differences that might have led to this.

>1) He made some huge, massive mistakes early on in his career. Frankly, a good chunk of the problems that arose in the "Home-" era were his fault. He fucked up hard and learned some harsh lessons.
>2) Avengers cred. Spider-Man is more or less known to be associated with the Avengers, and the Avengers have a generally positive reputation. His early association with the Avengers likely gave him a leg up.
>3) His "tutorial" era was REALLY effective. He went through some pretty heavy duty shit during high school that this probably gave him a ton of EXP that carried into making him a much more effective and efficient crimefighter post-NWH.
>>
>>155802397
Also, having Ned around probably prevented the isolation that would have otherwise caused him to become a potential school shooter like in the comics. Early Spider-Man had a pretty shitty attitude that probably helped caused the bulk of his bad rep. This Peter had a friend and thus he never developed his worse traits.

Maybe some might consider that a bad thing, though in fairness, the poor attitude from Garfield's Peter wasn't super popular among viewers during his run, so it's clear that Holland's Peter was designed to avoid that issue.

In a way Peter and Scott attract telepaths easily, it is canon that Emma likes Peter in comics

It's strongly implied that Doom took Peter, so I'm guessing when Doomsday starts, he'll be listed among the missing supers alongside Bruce. It doesn't sound like Jean's gonna have a massive role in Doomsday, but I'm assuming she'll at least be made aware of Spider-Man's disappearance.

Spider-Man will probably be one of the main characters of Secret Wars, alongside Bruce and several others. Given that Peter's Spider Sense has been shown give him resistance to both magic and psychic powers, I'm gonna assume that he'll be heavily resistant to whatever brainwashing that's inevitably going to be happening. If Jean doesn't have a big role in Doomsday, then she'll likely have one in Secret Wars.
>>
>>155804966
Also, I think that, given Doom being the splitting image of Tony Stark, I think Peter will probably be instrumental in saving Doom's heart and getting him to stop his evil plans.

Schizoid theory by me: 2026 Mangaverse was supposed to be about Peter and Jean, but they changed it to Miles and X23 to include a "timeskip" element since Peter and Jean's stories are done.
It's literally a parody shonen story where the symbiote and phoenix force are pitted together, except traditionally Miles has NOTHING to do with the symbiote and X23 has NOTHING to do with the Phoenix Force. These are character elements of Peter and Jean slapped onto them for this exclusive story that just happens to come out right next to BND

If romance is a no go, at least make them best friends with more “you have me” style scenes it can fuel more fanfics and fanarts. I’m not gonna be up their asses about it if the MCU can write and meaningfully expand on Jean and Peter’s relationship, even if it’s just in the general and platonic sense. They just have to make it compelling and well written.

I think what could work extremely well for Peter and Jean is what is usually called Platonic Partners in TVTrope language. Two people of opposite sex who have the emotional intimacy or closeness usually associated with romances, and the actions they perform for each other can be interpreted as romantic, however there is a clear lack of overt sexuality. No making out, no sex. But in every other way, they feel like two people who belong together.
Cap America and Black Widow were the closest example of that in the MCU, but only slightly close. In other fictional works it'd be Sherlock and Joan from Elementary, or the Doctor and Clara from Doctor Who. It's usually considered a very useful trope because it doesn't annoy fans who don't want romance between the two, but it also delivers on most of the emotional moments the shippers like to see.

There, Marvel. You don't need to add romance, but you can satisfy the shippers anyway.
>>
>>155816103
Yea this is extremely lazy. Also for Steve and Natasha, has to ignore she was interested in setting him up with other women at the start of Winter Soldier. Which means she was rejecting herself as a romantic prospect and settling into 'sister' friendzone. I dont think that should be the direction of SpiderPheonix i think they just defaulted to it out off being non committal and ejecting her out of the plot before more development would occur.
>>
>>155816103
the problem comes when the "platonic partners" are a better pairing than their intended love interests
>>
>>155816195
Hence why I said Cap and Widow were the closest to the trope in the MCU. I didn't say they were an example of the trope.

The Natsu and Lucy comparisons from the earlier threads are actually my worst nightmare. Those are characters who are written with perfect romantic chemistry but never capitalize on it just to leave the audience permanently yearning
>>
>>155817583
if Peter and Jean were really like Natsu and Lucy, they would meet variants that are actually a couple in Secret Wars, like the Edolas counterparts
>>
>>155817670
The way the multiverse works, there is no way there aren't counterparts of couples like that plowing like animals. They're too close.
>>
I can't help but feel like the biggest reason why this ship is kinda popular isn't just because of the chemistry between the two, but also because Marvel's always been pretty iffy at portraying a compelling relationship between two characters. Like not even in a romantic sense. The friendship between Steve and Bucky always felt kinda bland, so while I did sympathize with Steve's desire to save Bucky, I also didn't really care that much about their interactions. Thor and Loki's brotherhoood was nice, at least after Avengers. Like Thor 2 was a shit film, but the nuances of their relationship wasn't written too badly. Tony and Peter didn't have enough scenes for me to feel that strongly about their whole attempt at a mentor/protege thing. Peter and MJ's relationship was boring as fuck, but Peter and Ned's friendship was honestly pretty nice. Tony and Rhodey wasn't bad, before they basically stopped interacting at all after Iron Man 3.

From a romantic sense, I just do not care about the majority of pairings in this franchise. But a hypothetical relationship between Peter and Jean is one of the few that I feel like I could give a fuck about.

The distinction there is they were specifically tailored to specific people who got their wacko powers in specific ways. The implication was always most of them had already had some sort of cure or fix anyway and the others were one offs.

The inhibitors are entirely general purpose and more like the common X-Men "just turns off powers somehow." I don't have a problem with this, to be clear, but it really is a very different kind of thing.

>even after the worst most tragic breakup you still end up moving on one way or another after a period of time.
That just isn't true, some people spend their whole lives hung up on an ex, "the one that got away". Breakups can stay with people for decades, and this is worse than a normal breakup in some ways. He's fully capable of going to her at any time and starting over, but he's deliberately staying away from her, and seemingly all other women, because he doesn't want to put anyone at risk. He can't get over it because it isn't "over", he has to make the choice every day to stay away from her.

Also keep in mind he probably lost his virginity to her and hasn't been with anyone since, she's likely his entire romantic and sexual history wrapped up in one person. Crazy amount of willpower to stay away from her.

I really liked this, I hate it when canonically powerful characters get knocked around by henchmen for no reason, like when the Flash decides to fight at normal speed and gets his ass kicked. Having his biggest non-lethal weapon unexpectedly disabled would throw him for a loop, and it also makes it clear these guys have trained to counter him specifically.

They were telepathically linked at this point, maybe the spidey sense saw them as one linked "body". In which case blocking the vulnerable body with the super-powered body would make sense as an instinctive reaction, no different than protecting your head with your hands.
Or its possible his spidey sense just triggered because there was a bullet heading generally towards him and he chose to tank it. I'm assuming it doesn't just trigger at bullets fired exactly towards him, or else he'd be accidentally moving in front of bullets and shrapnel and shit all the time.

>MJ will marry Paul.
I saw someone say that "Paul" could be Harry Osborn, or should be if that wasn't the plan. It'd be a great way to bring him in, they could have Oscorp become a major player in the next movie, maybe a competitor to Damage Control after they get blamed for whole Jean Grey thing. Either Harry gets some nepo baby executive position at his dad's company, or it's a startup with Harry using Norman's money to finance it. Harry goes against Spider-Man because he's trying to stop their illegal shit, which puts MJ in the middle.

And name wise he's credited as "The Boyfriend" and no one actually says "Paul" so it wouldn't even be a retcon, just make him Harry.

We're trusting subtitles over the actual credits and IMDB page? His name is deliberately not stated, whoever was in charge of the subtitles made a mistake.
>The character's name is never stated in Spider-Man: Brand New Day and is simply credited as "The Boyfriend." However, the film's official theatrically-available closed captioning listed his name as Paul. However, actor Eman Esfandi stated on X that his character is not Paul.

I mean if it's so important to you, Harry's middle name is "Theopolis", Paul is a believable nickname from that
>"I told my friends not to call me "Theo" so they started calling me "Polis" as a joke, which became Paul"
I've heard dumber reasons for a nickname. But they never say the name Paul so it's not even a retcon to change it, it isn't canon.

Yeah. Unfortunately there wasn't much to hype up. Being able to change the language to Japanese is fun though. You notice some things. Like Peter still uses "Boku" to refer to himself even though he's a grown man now. This means Peter percieves himself a little boyish.

Jean uses "Watashiwa" to refer to herself. So despite being younger than Peter she clearly considers herself a woman.

Just checked now. Throughout the japanese version it seems like the word "Monster" is still said in english.

To clarify, when the characters say "Monster" they still say the english word "Monster" instead of "Bakemono" or something similar. This is kind of significant. I know the english word "Hero" used in japanese normally implies "Super Hero" rather than just hero.

No, as others have said the other language versions are technically different cuts of the film. The dialogue track is the only one that changes. You would have to purchase a physical copy of the Japanese release of the movie or access it on a japanese browser.

It would be nice to be able to hear brand new in the movie itself but i guess we'll have to settle with imagining it

It's nice to dream and fantasize but I seriously doubt Marvel will actually do a good job with Peter and Jean. Primarily because of the annoying copyright feud with Sony, which will make Marvel unwilling to add Spiderman to Marvel films unless absolutely necessary.
>>
>>155829506
Yeah that's the thing. Peter can't have too big of a role outside of movies titled "Spider-Man" which is why he is always just an action setpiece in the avengers movies.

They really have very little in common. It's a fan AU where Draco Malfoy is a girl. They have very, very little in common at all aside from the tsundere portrayal.

Draco Malfoy is an asshole, he isn't on Jean's level of villainy. Before the 6th entry he hadn't committed a single crime in his life. He's just a snotty bully with evil parents. When the time came for true villainy he started crying. Jean would crush him like a potato chip.

Malfoy is a sheltered rich asshole who is extremely racist and has a superiority complex. Jean is the *victim* of such fictional racism and has less of a superiority complex and more of an anarchist complex.
The "Malfoid" version of Malfoy is an anime tsundere hiding her crush on Harry because of how embarassing it would be to be open about it. We don't know how Jean feels about Peter but the fanon portrayal of her isn't super shy about it either.

I'm not sure if Jean fully fits the tsundere trope herself since the whole point of them is being emotionally guarded and terrified of being open. Jean is like that but she was also ok with sticking "her" tongue in peter's mouth and a real tsundere would be embarrassed to do that.
>>
>>155836261
tsundere jean comes from the 180 she does from pure spite for Peter, to complete desperation after he gets shot

If you're trying to find correlation in comics for Spider-Phoenix then you're deader than dead. Comics Jean is tied to Cyclops or Wolverine forever.

In fact, you can see how, after BND, the only "tie-ins" from the comics were a million Spidey-Punisher-Hulk tie-ins. Not a single new interaction between Spider-Man and Jean. Not even in flashbacks.

So forget about the comics.
>>
They COULD do an AU where Peter ends up with Jean just like there's an AU where he ends up with Chat and one where he ends up with Jessica Jones

It was comedic but it had way too many omake sections that distracted from the main story, and the main plot still hasn't gone anywhere yet.

Sure, I was just listing all the potential readings the audience might take from the "little girl" usage.
That said, there's definitely a gap in their age, as, while both Destin and Kevin confirm in separate occasions that she's similar in age,
Destin says she's young enough for the audience to relate, and Sink herself describes her as a "teenage girl, but with a very hard exterior".
So, if Peter is in the 20-22s range, Jean might be in the 18-20s, since that's considered "late adolescence" in some definitions.
>>
>>155841335
She gives the vibe of a 19 year old to me. Young enough to be inexperienced and ignorant. Old enough to have shed the teenage awkwardness that is practically universal to teens in the MCU (Literally all of them when you think about it)
>>
I might be wrong here since I never see anyone else interpret the movie this way, but I think Jean's scene with Aunt May isn't JUST about hearing encouraging words. Yeah Jean needed someone to talk to, but that's basically a mental recording of May.

I think what the scene did for her was show her the sensation of being in Peter's shoes with Aunt May. Unlike her he had a loving "mother". That was taken away from him and instead of punishing the world he punished himself. Jean clearly had access to more memories than that since at no point in the flashback is May called an aunt, but she knew it innately.

I think Jean saw how much peter was hurt in his life and how much he perservered through it and couldn't hurt him anymore. It became a clear example to her that there are options.

He probably will once Jean manages to properly solve the Zombie crisis, but both Jean and him are the only survivors by the end of the book.
Still, it was incredibly important that Jean was still around, because Peter felt as if he had no one else.
