War World Saga and War Journal is where PKJ peaked huh
>>
Big meh for me, dog.
Im kind of surprised at how, on the one hand, they are blatantly ripping off Absolute Batman, and on the other hand, how badly they're doing it. At least he's already fucking Batman in the first issue of that book. This has the millstone of being yet another retelling of the Spiderman origin and a mediocre pastiche of another, more popular book.

Then again, I was really unimpressed with the first issue of absolute batman, too, so maybe this will sell like gangbusters.

This whole comic just seems like a more depressing and ugly version of Ultimate Spider-Man (Bendis version) and Oscorp is acting like the Life Foundation in the first Venom movie, it's literally the same plot as the first Venom movie except less fun...

>>
>>155773478
Overall I liked it. I can see why people would say this is Marvel's answer to DC's Absolute. The horror aspect makes it easier to lean into the uglier side of things. More importantly the art and paneling flow well. Keeping the focus small and tight around Peter is a good choice. This is a breath of fresh air after 2+ years of the Ultimates universe and I can see this being a good entry point with no baggage. The 2024 Ultimate Spider-man run by contrast had all the Maker stuff baked in from the start which might have worked for nostalgia purposes but maybe less so for an alt universe for new readers.
>>
>>155773857
I talk like that. You wouldn't get it because you're low iq and soulless, but it makes perfect sense for a sensitive soul like Peter who is troubled by the might makes right nature of the universe and who wants to overcome that cold evil.
>>
>>155773883

>>
>>155773343
Eh, liked it but damn it's a lot of a setup for issue one.
>>
>>155773899
No one hates the art, the art is the highlight, but it's weird that the art is so nice to look at when the actual content is grotesque and ugly and depressing. Not to mention nothing happens, decompressed to the max. Compare this to Amazing Fantasy 15 and it's fucking embarassing.

Would you want to read a comic that was just like looking in the mirror? My life is bleak and depressing and I already have plummed the depths of pessimism, anti-natalism, and all the philosophies which tell me what I already know from having been molested as a child and having watched pets and other innocents die. And having spent time thinking about all that stuff, I've found I prefer the art I take in to be hopeful and happy and positive. This comic just looks like it's going to be miserable, they said Green Goblin and Venom will show up, but they'll probably just be gross and mean spirited versions of the characters. I'd rather go back and read Steve Ditko Spidey and David Michilinie Venom and imagine a world where there are heroes like Peter Parker and Eddie Brock trying their best to make things better.

Don't need the doom and gloom in fiction, I have no use for it.

Was peter bitten while he was asleep and somehow did not feel intense pain and the side effect of death like Ben, or was the spider feeling like a fair sport so he just wrapped pete up and waited until he was conscious so he can eat him
>>
>>155775187
I think its just more graphic that way. Having him being bitten just after a nightmare.
I hope he gets some of Miguel's powers, like the venom fangs.

They did a bad job conveying it, but the spider powered up by eating ben, thengave Peter powers, the plan was for the spider to eat Peter, then Felicia would come pick up the spider for the powers.

A very stupid plan when you think about it for a few seconds.

Meh. I've not liked Peter Cucker in decades now, so I'm in this simply for the aesthetic/vibes and am patiently waiting for Stormin Norman to come in. Spider-Fag sucks, but Oz and Ock I'll always follow. Thus far this was a pretty shit issue with terrible writing, but I appreciate Felicia and the art was fine.
>>
I don't think any of this was planned by Oscorp, Peter was probably going to eventually end up in a tube or more likely impress Otto and end up working on the biotech (which might still happen) and told it's tested on rats but we see here >>155773397 that there was a breach and here >>155773447 that security is cleaning up the wing so they go somewhere else entirely.

Assuming the contract wasn't to experiment on Peter it more likely was just a way to lock a 18 year old post-grad biotech guy into a brutal nda to kill his blog.
>>
>>155775291
Nah, he was meant to be a guinea pig too >>155773406
>>
>>155775311
Like I said he was eventually gonna end up in a tube but like in a few weeks while the Spider forming out of the first guys corpse, breaking out of containment, and going home with Peter were totally unplanned.
>>
>>155775332
Do you think Felicia was aware? Its doesn't seem like she has any idea about what's happening and the guards basically doesn't want Pete to see Otto or Webber >>155773447
>>
>>155773478
Eh... Not really grabbing me. The writing's kind of the usual modern fair of attempting to be socially conscious to an eye-rolling degree. The horror was depicted well, but still came off cartoonish due to the aforementioned social context. Between Oscorp's donors talking like tweens in a chatroom and the repetitive flashbacks to the dead cat, it just because trite. By the time you get to Uncle Ben's death, it feels more obligatory than tragic.

Even the minor bit of literal titillation via Felicia wasn't really enough to make this seem worthwhile. I'll check out the next few issues, but I'm not really enthusiastic about it.
>>
>>155775362
50/50, dead guy was subject 2518 and if that's all humans and they had her targeting for specific demographics then she likely knows something is up but the fact that she went around bragging about recruiting him and it got to other project leads like Pym instead of a fake audience I think she doesn't know the why or at least thinks Peter was recruited to work on it. I bet she'll find out and get thrown in a tube to get her powers when she asks too many questions.

I like the art, Thats it. There are a few disgusting images, a pair a mommy tits and over all the opening felt like one of the animated series. I've never been a huge fan oscorp creating the spider. The og origin was just a random experiment with some poor bastard of a spider getting caught in the mix. They should do an au where the spider gets bitten by a radioactive peter parker.

>>
Really like the art. Setup and characterization are fine as they get across all the vital points of what this NYC is like, how Peter and Ben fit into that picture, and what Peter and Ben are like as two people in a family that's known too much hardship.

The thing is, I still think the pitch for the Midnight line is weak. "Creators get to ignore continuity and do something different" is fine. But Marvel pitching this as a dark and horrifying take on what's ordinarily a bright and heroic world doesn't hit me, because 616 already has a cynical slant across its whole line and it's been that way for decades.
>>
>>155776527
Did you know that 616 spider man sold his marriage to the devil and was then mocked for damning his unborn daughter to oblivion. Is there anything in Midnight more horrific than that?
>>
I feel like I'm being gaslit by everyone saying the art is good
The characters look like they belong on the covers of those "How to draw in anime style!" books with how their faces are proportioned
>>
>>155776666
Yeah quad devil numbers nails the problem pretty well.
ASM has been a misery machine for a long time, startling line shot being OMD but arguably amping up considerably around Superior when muh Parker luck got flanderized. Peter but more gorey isn't that much more than the usual multiple times a month miseryporn.

Oscorp doing gristly body horror experiments with Felicia Hardy as Vice President and Peter bringing home a spider that turns Ben into goo is new. Yeah it's going to have common elements with previous versions of Spider-Man because it's Spider-Man, not an original concept.

>THE PARKER INCIDENT! As Peter Parker frantically searches for a way to reclaim his humanity, Oscorp hunts the emerging urban legend THE SPIDERMAN in their first breakthrough on the path to a post-mortality future. 90s Spider-Man was written by David Michilinie who was one of the greatest Spidey writers of all time from an accessibiloty standpoint. If you go back and look at his issues of Amazing Spider-Man, you can as a new reader pick up any issue and through the storytelling it explains everything you need to know ans every issue has action in it. Modern writers just don't know how to do that anymore.

Compare a random issue from Michilinie to one from Zeb Wells or the guy who wrote that 80 issue Torment arc where nothing happens beyond people sitting in a coffee shop talking, the problem are the writers.

>Oscrop doing grizzly body horror experiments
This is not new.
>Felicia Hardy as Vice President
Other than the name, what makes her Felicia Hardy? If a Spider-Man comic whites out every usage of Aunt May and replaces it with Gwen Stacey would you say "Putting Gwen as Peter's Aunt is a new take"?
>Peter bringing home a spider that turns Ben into goo
This will not matter beyond the single inciting incident.

To do something novel with a character or story you change ongoing elements of the story. Spider-Man Noir taking place in prohibition era New York was novel because it created meaningful changes that lasted the entirety of the story. Having an anvil fall on Ben's head instead of a mugger shooting him would not do anything in the long term so long as Peter could have prevented the death and didn't because of a selfish decision he made. Putting new individual events into a story is not unique or novel; reinventing the status quo and/or providing long term differences in characters is.

That was a flash in a pan. 90s Spider-Man was defined by obnoxious mega crossover events like Maximum Carnage, Dead Robo Parents, I Am the Spider, The Clone Saga and all its multiple crossover events (Power and Responsibility, Back from the Edge, Web of Death, Smoke and Mirrors, The Mark of Kaine, The Trial of Peter Parker, Maximum Clonage, Exiled, The Greatest Responsibility, The Return of Spider-Man, Web of Carnage, Blood Brothers, Revelations), Spider-Hunt, Identity Crisis, Gathering of the Five, The Final Chapter, and the Byrne relaunch when four spider-titles a month shrank down to two. All desperate attempts to keep sales afloat.

Even safe horny hag lovers are feeling the heat of the faggot zoomer menace, hilarious. This is the end result of demonizing straight relationships, you can never depict Peter and Gwen or even MJ being young lovers without making the girls bisexual or swingers or something because two young people have genuine love and passion for each other transcends moral guidelines and laws and is inherently toxic to the woke faggot mindset that wants written contracts of consent and power dynamics involved.

Young love has no power dynamics, and that's why these mutant freaks hate it, nothing sets them on edge and has teeth knashing more than a teenage boy and a teenage girl, embracing each other, feeling joy in one another's bodies, sharing what can only be felt once with one another for the first time. Young love can't be boxed, packaged, and sold and that's why these cretins hate it.
