Dave and John are not skeptics but they are not good listeners. John does what hes told but he always does it in the "john way" Rose is sort of the opposite even in the beginning, she thinks shes more independent, mature, and intelligent than she is, her skepticism is a thin wall that people who know her can break through easily, this extends to not only someone who is all knowing, but also someone who, retroactively, is at least tangentially *related* to rose. I honestly find your faith in rose perplexing, not only is she not that smart, shes also a child. At the end of the day, what seals the deal on the Scratch's is not any tactical mishap on rose's part. Rose listens, she has her own plans, she tries her best (fails) to maneuver around scratch. But at the end of it all, what does it all come down to? Her emotions. Her sorrow at her mothers death makes her do something incredibly stupid, so stupid in fact that she is forced to go all in on the scratch plan, when perhaps otherwise she could have thought around it. And Dave, being Dave, followed her. Ironically, if Rose "followed her heart" and not her brain, she prob would have avoided this. But the same skeptism that made her distrust sburb yet still comb it dry for information is the same thing that made her talk up that perverted ball in the first place.
