Would you call this the best episode in the entire series?
>>155992352No. It's top 3 but Perchance to Dream and Dreams In Darkness are better. Also I hate how every single time someone talks about Freeze they talk as if we're still living in the 90s.>Freeze was seen as a joke villain... But then BTAS made him into a serious tragic figure and proved that you can take comic book villains seriously and use them to tell mature stories! And they just stop there. Like it hasn't been over 30 years of milking and recycling the same conflict over and over and over since then, with occasional bad deviations like New 52, Harley Quinn show, or that one time Nora got brought back to life as a psycho villain.
>>155992429>And they just stop there. Like it hasn't been over 30 years of milking and recycling the same conflict over and over and over since then, with occasional bad deviations like New 52, Harley Quinn show, or that one time Nora got brought back to life as a psycho villain.you really saying this about a villain in a franchise where they feel the need to retell how bruce wayne's parents died in every fucking movie and show made? and the harley quinn show interation isn't worth talking about. Its pretty clear someone on staff turned nora into her self insert. It was kind of cringe. bane going to italy and learning to make pasta or whatever to impress her was pretty funny though.
>>155992352Personally I think there are 2-parters that are better, Heart of Steel and Feat of Clay I just think are more interesting stories but...i dunno. It probably still just is the best overall episode.the serious tone and awesome redesign aside-I feel a big part of why Hear of Ice is so good is the genius audio mixing on victor's vocal performance. it's so distorted and monotone, it really does evoke the idea that he exists in a state between life and death. He's not a robot bereft of emotion, he's more like a vengeful ghost speaking through some kind of infernal machine. His theme music really good too.>oooh yes...I'd kill for that.
>>155993058>Heart of SteelOh man that one was a mess. I mean, it's an interesting curiosity, but I remember thinking it was really boring as a kid, and I still think it feels kinda too big and convoluted for a Batman plot. More people probably remember the sequel with the AI Batman robot than the original two-parter because the sequel was sweet and focused.
I still find it funny that Morrison used his Comic Wizard Magic to conjure this universe into existence.
>>155992352Nope. Far from it, actually.
>>155992352It should be in a museum as an example of how great a cartoon can get and how cartoons can be just as adult as any other media, and it should've gotten just about every possible award while every film critic should've given it a standing ovation in unison while exclusively using the word "cinema" to refer to it......but BTAS is just so god-tier that it's only "up there" and the show had better episodes.
>>155995851easy on the glazing anon
>>155996479>not recognizing hyperbole
>>155992352If you mean Heart of Ice, it's definitely up there, but not Deep Freeze which is the episode your image comes from.
Probably, but I think It's Never Too Late is an extremely underrated episode.
>>155995616sybau
>>155992352It works as an individual strong episode, but it also locks Freeze into being obsessed with his wife forever and never get to do anything interesting beyond that unless it's a parody.
>>155992429DC is undoing that part per yesterday's detective comics issue.
>>155992352Ever since seeing this ep as a kid I’ve always been fascinated with imagery of people in glass cryotubes, coffins, bottles, stasis pods, etc. Does anyone have more /co/ examples of this sorta thing? For science.
>>155992352FACT: the only reason anyone cares about Mr. Freeze is because Paul Dini ripped off his motivation from another cold-themed DC villain.
>>155997567The Kingpin had Alistair Smythe's father cryogenically frozen in Spider-Man the animated series. Like cloning, it was a very popular science fiction concept in the 90s.
>>155998073Yeah I sorta remember it being a bigger thing then. Now I think suicide booths would be more popular, if the concept of killing oneself wasn’t so heavily censored.
>>155992429Caped Crusader tried to not do the frozen wife thing, but instead they just ripped off Vincent Price’s House of Wax. And it really wasn’t any more original or compelling.
