Muses like calliope are one of the most important characters in the story, who permeate almost every single character, unlike Caliborn who only acts through people he directly controls or is related to. But more over. Muses *can* act directly, it is just not their natural state. I.E alt calliope in act 7. Passive classes are REACTIVE and active classes are PROACTIVE. Passive classes can and will fucking destroy you if you poke them enough. John is at his strongest when being directed, given direction, thus you see his power explode in such cases. Rather than someone like dave, who, while at first acting on directions, eventually graduates to being the resident busy body of the whole session, managing it and making it run smoothly on his own.

This general flighty-ness is also a seer special, but is more representative of her inability to approach problems head on. Rose has a similar problem, she thinks she can out trick omnipotent beings and skaia itself, and more importantly wants to live the fantasy of *using* her friends as her tools and not relying upon them. This fantasy fails spectacularly.

i wish john's character could have been better, like while he can be really boring, he can also be fan and whimsical, him finding his dad's cards are some of the best moments of early homestuck to me, but his arc just wasn't good and it left me somewhat jaded, like i understand it was about dealing with his deads death, but like he didn't really change in any fundamental way and while him discovering how shitty vriska is, it just goes nowhere, it just very unfulfiling.
