I've gone and contemplated every possible scenario I can draft up for what Asami's role in the apocalypse was and knowing how terrible these writers are because they lack complete imagination they'll all end up being completely wrong in favor of something stupid that they'll believe was brilliant around the time they wrote it.Here is what I am thinking. When Roku took Aang to see what Roku's life was like when he was the Avatar, the show depicts Sozin as a more or less a good person who overtime let nationalism corrupt him and the comics take this several cartoonish steps further making him out to be this completely irredeemable asshole. Even if the writing wasn't the best, it's a canonical example of someone who was good who overtime became evil even if those reasons weren't exactly nuanced. So what if, and again this will likely end up being wrong because these writers are bad at their jobs why not have the same thing happen to Asami?You married the Avatar. You completely changed the negative perception that the general public had towards you. What if it's revealed that because Korra wouldn't close the spirit portals out of pride or whatever all that excess spirit energy was coming in anyway in large quantities so Asami builds the factories to just store the excess. It goes back to the anti nuclear allegory where because so much spirit energy is coming in thru the portals the factories harness it and suck up all the excess like how nuclear plants will hollow out mountains to drop off the excess waste in drums and leave them there and then seal off the area Like it's partially a power plant but it's more like a bandaid on a broken arm situation where the factories were actually Korra's idea and Asami just went along with it to give her something to do and make a tiny bit of profit off it since Korra would rather do anything then just admit Wan closed those portals for a reason

Oh yeah the planet's fear Chakra demon distorted Pavi and Nisha's flashback to what really happened. Because Nisha was afraid so instead of seeing what actually happened between Korra and Republic City they saw what the collective consciousness of humanity believed happened. That being Korra going insane and destroying the world. So you have to approach the fear demon with no fear in order to defeat it. Which I'm guessing we're all guessing will be the season finale. Pavi will calm/pacify Nisha so that she's no longer afraid, and then that will cascade into everyone else no longer being afraid. And that'll clear up the earthly Chakra and will make the land fertile again so people can stop being hungry.
