This way your followers will already have some "attachment" to the character and will be more likely to buy the manga once it releases.I've noticed a number of japanese doujin artists do this approach, where the character is first presented as an OC on their social media. I like colored cover art that shows off the artist's style while at least giving a hint to what the story is about.
