It's fun to see them in punishment scenarios they can't escape from and to have their hang ups on full display, but getting some flashbacks of daily life between before some pivotal encounter and afterwards gives us some raw contrast as to how low they sink now. I like that despite banding together they have little perception of there being a threat, and that there will prevails through a lot of humiliation when they can't even recognize that they resent what they used to fight for.

It was being implied that the mark was more like a desire curse than a control curse, only becoming the latter if victim resists it. The villain had a look of surprise upon hearing news that the ladies were acting without his command. Then it ends with them in their armor, ready to take action, implying they were ready and able to take him down.
