I want to make a little library. I can buy a kit, but I want to have one where I don't need to dig a hole and make a post. Any ideas there?

Or anyone know a good old box that'll make a good substitute?
>>
>>2931523
Maybe ask the city if you could attach it to a lightpole in a high traffic area.

If you don't want to buy a kit, check craigslist or FB marketplace free sections for free stuff that could be substituted. If you get lucky you'll run up on someone remodeling and tossing out old cabinets
>>
These invariably get filled with valueless slop. Low-effort romance and mystery novels. Bad children's books.

Is it going on your own property? You could strap it to a tree maybe. Put it on an antique chair or something for a certain kind of chic.
I've seen fence guys put chain link fenceposts in the ground by just hammering them straight in -- no digging. If your box isn't gonna be stupid heavy, you could try something like that.
If you're feeling goofy, you can put it on a post and just keep it upright with guys (that's tie-downs, not men)

It's not really for reading. It's a repellent for a specific category of people.
>>
>>2931523
>I want to have one where I don't need to dig a hole
Try your kit but with a slight redesign like this as a base. It's a body armor stand, but it should be fairly easy to adapt it for your use.

Please, for the love of God, do not install a Little Library if you live in or near a neighborhood where ghetto people have easy access. LLs are often destroyed, used for drug drops, or empty because joggers can't behave themselves.

Go to the little free library's website they give blue prints on how to make your own and also tips on locations you can place them on your property.. I was gonna do this but taught about it, And decided i rather not attract randoms to my house. So now i just walk the 3 blocks to one in front of the curch and put all my unwanted books in them.. as I am a avid reader despite my shitty spelling lol...

It won't protect against vandalism, but they actually make and sell a stamp you can use to prevent tweakers from selling the books for drug money.

my mother buys tons of books to read off scamazon private sellers. at least 1 in 10 will have that stamp inside and theyre always books from mega sellers like thriftbooks. the stamp doesnt stop jack shit

The point is to not install a LL in or near a ghetto neighborhood. Normal, functioning people know not to mess with them.

Here in Norway they're reusing old phone booths for that.
>>
There is an old 'Electro-Matic' traffic control box setup as one in my town. The thing is fucking huge. It has a full sized door in it. You open it up and they added all these wooden shelves for the box. It has a light in it that look original. Its painted silver. If it wasn't in this guys front yard and was the size of an old telephone both you'd think it was still in use.

Picture from Reddit.

The last time I saw one of these it was full of crusty sun baked mass market paperbacks. The door was broken and ajar so dirt and wind got in and ruined the books, not that they weren’t garbage to begin with.

Little Free Libraries are the ultimate way to disseminate snuff and CP and other crazy shit into the public
>go to used book store, typically they will have a huge bin of books for a dollar or less or even free
>take all the most interesting looking cookbooks or paperbacks of popular novels
>insert whatever insane media you want to force families and children to look at
>profit
If anyone ever bothers you about what they found in the little library, just say it's available for anyone to add to and you have no control over it

this would assume anyone ever uses these things or even approaches them to see what's there.

No one does. Ever. They're nice ideas from the 2010s that made people feel good but were totally useless vanity projects. The only reason people don't openly shit on them is because they don't do any harm and can theoretically serve a purpose if anyone spontaneously gave a damn

Also, no it's still your problem. It's on your property and would be up to you to maintain. You might get away with it from the first criminal complaint but not the second, and if someone presented a civil case you'd likely lose even on the first instance
>>
>>2934700
>I have a camera on mine

Tweakers are not rational or intelligent. I had some guy try to walk off with a bunch of rotted 20 year old cracked deck boards I'd left in my yard overnight before bringing them to the dump. The only reason I even stopped him was so the cops could scare him out of the neighborhood. A few streets over some group stole a bunch of gate latches. Like, went down the street overnight unscrewing 5 gate latches in a row. Drugs make you retarded.
If these people had any common sense they wouldn't be tweakers in the first place. There is no coherent though involved. It's just moment to moment "here is a thing, I could have the thing, a thing can become drugs, I want more drugs"
>>
>>2934220
>you can use to prevent tweakers from selling the books for drug money
Anon you havent spent enough time around them if you think they can't find someone to hock shit to.

Yeah so i read this thread last night, thought about it then woke up and made one, pic related. It is also a tiny food panty and supply depot.

I'm 14 miles down a dirt road in northern Maine, it's going in the front yard. There is a decent number of cabins nearby, 50ish in our road association. No one is starving here but folks do end up forgetting stuff or getting snowed in so it would be nice to have a place to grab little things instead of driving 50 miles to town. Stuff going in there:

>Books
>Non perishable food, coffee, canned milk, ect.
>TP, tampons, shaving kits, travel tooth brushes, ect
>Box of .22 and a few shotshells
>Zyn, couple packs of Marlboro lights, some cheap cigars
>12 pack of beer, cheap whisky, fireball, bottle of cheap wine, some THC gummies

No one is going to wreak it and anyone who needs stuff will 99% replace it, pay for it or both. There will be shitloads of donations at the end of season.

The booze, weed ect will have a note explaining that it is there so if someone is wasted and runs out of party supplies i'd rather they come here instead of kill someone driving to town half wasted. Also a camera and warning for minors.

Thoughts?

I'm planing to make one for my little town, i dont live near niggers and the robbers have the risk of being lynched so its pretty safe. So my worries pretty much are
> mold
> sun damaging the books
> insects getting inside and damaging the books
My proposed solutions are
> making it almost hermetic, and glue some gelica bags on the insides and top to absorb humidity.
> locate it under the shadow of a tree and rotated so the sun never hits the glass directly
Any other things i should keep in mind?
I chatGPTed the design so you have an idea.
Also go for it OP, you may never know how many lifes you could change by they finding the right book on the right moment.

>>2931523
I made mine out of a old mini frig that i gutted out and installed a solar light inside of it and epoxied small rocks all over the sides and top so it did not look like a refrigerator tossed out on the curb for trash. I cemented it in to ground and planted bushes on each side of it so it looked nice.. The town hated it.. Tried to fine me but it stayed with the cum's approval .. Then some one lit it on fire. Smashed out the glass door and tried to rip it out of the ground but could not. Not all at the same time this was 4 dif incidents. It was not till i had a home invasion attempt on my house that's when i took it down. Thankfully i was home when this happened and the guys ran once i drew my firearm .. Police said that sadly these things draw the wrong attention to neighborhoods as they show its a quiet sleepy safe area witch criminals in my area are drawn too.. So before you make one of these or buy one first check with your town and make sure its ok. Then check with police and ask if these things get vandalized or destroyed as this could be a sign your in a area like mine that will draw unwanted attention to your house. Anyways best wishes and be safe..

Back side. It will have a bunch of basic food items, things like mix gas, tampons, TP, shotgun and .22 ammo, ect.

It will also have beer, booze, smokes and a message:
>It's 50 miles to town and if you run out of party supplies please come here instead of driving. I don't care if you die driving while wasted because you deserve it but i do care about anyone you hit. Please use this instead of driving to town and replace it when you sober up

Off grid inna woods of Northern Maine. Mostly the old guys get drunk, hunt grouse then run out of ammo/beer/whisky then decide to drive to town to get more.

If they have ammo and beer then they don't drive to town drunk then they don't kill anyone on the road.

So i'll give it to them for free, when they sober up the next day they will replace anything they took and leave a tip in the jar. I fully expect it to run at a profit.

The chance of anyone who can locate it and rob it is pretty much zero. Any criminals will have to go through 14 miles of privately owned dirt roads and into retired former military boomer hell. It is literally the safest and most chill place on earth.

Your concerns are noted but are not a real issue, while i understand your worries the location ensures that any minor that isn't accompanied by an adult is mature enough that they can think for themselves.

It's 16 miles to the nearest paved road in Northern Maine, any immature or unescorted minor who wanders by alone has bigger problems than having a few beers and getting stoned.

People do this with eggs, honey, jams, produce, etc. in rural areas in America. A few years back some of them got raided and vandalized because city blacks within driving distance found out about them on social media but I think that kind of high-effort low-reward marauding didn't last very long and I still see such booths and stands around today.
