How about instead of a 3d printer someone just makes a laser box that can cut anything including a block of plastic
>>
Your mom's laser box.
>>
>>2936840
go do it
/thread
>>
>>2936840
Less waste with 3D printing. The majority of your blocks will be trash material at the end. Like CNC.
>>
>>2936963
>like CNC
most 3d printers are literally CNC
just like OP implied about the LASER box
>>
>>2936840
your IQ is showing

additive manufacturing which is what "3d printing" is. additive, as the name states is the opposite of subtractive which is what you suggested and you cannot create things that you can in the other. both have their limitations.
>>
>>2936840
Yes, same for buildings, we should just make a big block of concrete and drill holes to make rooms.
My god you're such a retard
>>
>>2936970
Playing semantics
>>2937003
If there is a will to automate housing there is a way and its a solved problem. It’s called commieblocks. They’re blocks of concrete assembled in a factory and then stacked together with pipe fittings.
They might make a comeback if everyone loses their jobs.
They’re ugly but anyways. Laser box.
>>
>>2936840
Noobs forget that every question they can think of has already been answered and don't yet understand why they need useful general knowledge.

We were all new once. I wish someone had been around to tell me "that's stupid" and WHY but that was pre-internet.

I countered my ignorance by a lifetime of study which is large fun.

The way to think about manufacturing is begin PRECISELY with the object design you wish to make, then find out how it's already made and choose a process appropriate to your situation (skill, tools, equipment, workspace).
>>
>>2937093
nice way to sabotage all progress
either way I'm not saying OP isn't a braindead retard
OP is a retard

Why doesn't someone /diy/ the laser room from the 1st residence evil movie?
It would be kino
>>
>>2936840
Re-entrant angles arent possible with that.
>>
doesn't laser always cut through a material making it only useful for sheet goods
>>
>>2937486
nah
LASERs used in such capacity are al. ost always pulsed. Each LASER pulse will disintegrate a specific amount of material, leaving a cratef and perhaps other features like a rscast zone and such.
LASER engraving works, right? And if you engraved one spot a again it would be even lower relative to the parent material surface, when co. pared to the first time around.
So if OP positioned their work arbitarily and focused LASER energy onto it and had the whole thing CNC controlled in a manner that is conducive to the end result they could in fact carve out many shapes. Focussing would have to be CNC controlled too and I imagine generall, poor efficiency, so the idea of bulk removal is about as retarded as OP.
>>
pew pew
>>
>>2936840
How does that handle concave structures?
>>
>>2938505
What makes you think it wouldn't? I still think OP is generally retarded, at least with the context OP gave and all. Bit why shouldn't you be able to make say a spoon on a LASER, provided you had a 4th axis or got to flip the stock once?
>>
>>2936963
CNC means Computer Numerical Control.

Per Wikipedia:
"A CNC machine is a motorized maneuverable tool and often a motorized maneuverable platform, which are both controlled by a computer, according to specific input instructions. Instructions are delivered to a CNC machine in the form of a sequential program of machine control instructions such as G-code and M-code, and then executed. "

See, no you are less of an idiot! You'll never not be an idiot, but now you are a tiny bit more knowledgeable.

>>2936840
I think there is a consumer market for 5 axis proprietary plastic desktop mills

Apple approach, Apple care, 1 size of stock you have to buy our plastic cube, you have to buy our vise, sell them chip conveyer into a shop vac separately for a huge margin

Slicer just cloud nc and it holds .250” of stock in the dovetail mo matter what

Cutters are preset in heat shrink and do not sell heat shrink machin yto set your own cut heights

All end mills preset lengths

Make it do a retarded soccer mom can’t crash and if she does she gives you a mortgage payment to get her Etsy bullshit carving machine back online

Charge them $3000, that’s the price where idiots can still afford it on a credit card but expensive enough to respect the machine

If it’s like $500 they’ll treat as disposable and you’ll have more technical problems with people bitching but if they almost can’t afford it they’ll try harder

Also heavily market only to whites, Asians
Make sure to exclude minorities in your advertising campaigns
>>
>>2936840
Milling machines and if you need smaller there is EDM can pretty much already do this.
Semantics isn't really qualified because there are obvious differences between two very different manufacturing types. You're just too retarded to understand.
>>
>>2938508
How do you think it would make a hollow box.
>>
>>2936840
A milling machine is less gay
>>
>>2938594
Just like OP describes it and it's also being done quite frankly just not for thkse materials and dimensikns because thats retarded.
I don't even get how you dont get it.
Place stock. Get LASER pulsing, position it for stock removal where stock needs removing. Do not remove where no removal is required, switch of LASER if you have to rapid across it. Reposition Z to maintain focus and repeat until desired depth for each feature is achieved. Idk what do you think is missing?
>>
>>2936869
Isn't that the "community fingerbox" everyone keeps raving about?
>>
>>2939124
How would I remove a 3 inch cylinder from one of those without damaging it?
>>
>>2939124
shhh don't post about that here
>>
>>2936840
How about instead of a 3dprinter, you use a 4d printer and steal it from yourself in the future?
>>
>>2939124
Did you convert something like
>picrel
into a fingerbox?
Mine is just plastic and I'm looking to upgrade.
Yes my fingerbox is 3D printed.

Terry was working on that back in 2003

You guys a assume a laser box has to be like a cnc machine or 3d printer when it could just be a bunch of high power lasers aiming at s prism or something like a regular laser printer.
>>
@grok please use a laser to turn this block of plastic into a hollow sphere
>>
>>2937149
Lasers are too expensive, could do it with super thin wire maybe
>>
>>2936840
anon, water jet machines exist. you get an abrasive + water solution and beam down your material into whatever your program into the machine. kek

anything you don't understand must be easy, and works by magic.
>>
>>2936965
cnc and 3d printers are complete opposites idiot.
>>
>>2937486
if you think about something too much you will realize why it isn't done. just be like OP some shit pops in to the shriveled peanut he calls a brain and that's it. no more thought, just "me so smart".
>>
>>2940265
>aiming at s prism or something
nice technical lingo there... was that that best you could do?
>>
>>2940360
already been done.
