>>2937699You should move your house 30ft to the right in order to block the path
Just another reason why corner lots suck. They're great locations for gas stations in commercial areas but in residential areas, your yard is under constant assault. Even with a fence, people will want to put up yard sale signs and ads for their lawn mowing business. Plus if there are sidewalks, they take up right of way on two sides of your property instead of just one.
>>2937880I'll try this because it seems least likely to spark a backlash or incur liability.
>>2937699Bring this photo, and any sec cam footage of the tweakers, to the HOA rep. Explain you are trying to keep your lawn in good order and are stuck due to the fencing limitation. Ask if you could get an exemption due to being on a high traffic corner lot, either for a low fence (just enough to make it obviously trespassing to cross over it) or for a low hedge. If they turn it down, write a letter to the local paper complaining that your HOA is abbetting drug addicts and damaging property values. HOA people are all about status, they'll bend over backwards if they start getting bad press in the boomer pages.

>>2938912well I have already hinted I am not an american and in law school I learned that many jurisdictions, USA included, have much weaker self defense laws and castle doctrine than many european countries, mine included.Judges are eroding all of this lately, but until very recently, you could argue that is was legal to shoot at someone who is in the process of merely insulting a third person. Ofc you'd still have to get the court to follow the argument but it's not unfounded. Laws here allow you to defend any legally protected personal interests, including personal honor. The law would also allow you to protect a third persons legal interests on their behalf. All this is only if your action is suitable and meant to stop an ongoing infringement. The only restriction the law places on your choice of means is 'very gross disproportionality'. They have introduced this after a few very famous cases of legal shootings over nothing. >Picrel is a case every law student here has to work through. Shooting children who steal cherries. The law also affords you protection when for example you fell into a rage and went avove and beyond what was needed, after you already stopped the assailant. At any rate the important takeaway: The law affords almost no protection to the attacker. Especially the law does not demand proportionality or the defendant to take any risks. If you can put a slug in that guy at a distance then do it, no need to announce your presence when they could be packing or try to wrestle them. And that is a sensible law.

>>2937699OP: to prevent undesirables from crossing your property, you will physically have to block it off and then protect it. I recommend building at least an 8ft tall see-through metal fence with 2ft deep footings all the way around. Then get 2 of these (they’re much better with st least 1 other dog) and pay the money to make sure they’re well-trained. They get through the fence every time so you have to convince them to stay. The fence easily delineates public property and the dogs make sure the public respects it.

In my area people with corner lots often build a garage on the "side" facing part of the lot since it can be up to 25' tall instead of the 36" fence.

Often they're mainly to pay for something like street lights that the county doesn't provide and to serve as a single point of contact for things like getting the streets repaved every couple of decades. Often the HOA dues are something like $30 a year, which is just enough to cover the fees for keeping the associate incorporated and pay the electric bill for the street lights.

>>2946053There were started to keep certain people out. Once that function was taken away from them they started to get warped. It was made worse by the fact that many neighborhoods are built with them because it is cheaper for the contractor. Instead of building the neighborhood and having to pay a shitton of fees for the city to manage it (road upkeep, parks, etc.) they make an HOA and put it in charge of everything. This lowers THEIR cost burden but shifts it all to the owners, who now pay HOA fees on top of their standard taxes even though the HOA fees generally cover things like snow removal, road paving and what have you (though this varies a lot from one HOA to the next). You can basically end up getting 'taxed' twice'. So, now you have an HOA being run as a for profit operation. That is when you get the really crazy shit like them taking your property and evicting you from your homes. Some years back an HOA went after a couple of LAWYERS because they have political signs in their yard that were 4 inches too large. The HOA voted to change its own rules so it could fine them for the signs. This went as well as you could expect. The lawyers ended up suing, winning, and were granted a $100k judgement. The HOA spent over $400k fighting that case and another case where they arbitrarily refused to approve to construction for the same couple, expecting it would win. A cool half mil in the hole its dues went from $650 a year to $3,500. It tried to sell its only asset, the neighborhood common area. When that failed it declared bankruptcy. Meanwhile it was unable to afford to perform its own functions, like pay for the upkeep of the common area. Madness.Never buy land that is subject to an HOA. The boards are elected from the people subject to the HOA and you can get some real fucking shitlords running things that have no real idea what they are allowed to do and what the consequences are when they fuck up.

Grounds keeper here. This kind of design is a big part of our jobs.A fence or low hedge is the most obvious choice, low hedge are effective because they're wide. If people can't step over them and would have to jump, they're likely to go around. For these kinds is hedges you want something which shoots, because small holes render these hedges ineffective very quickly. Next step up, medium, high hedge. High fence. Screening hedge. Wierd options, irrigated gullies. Like a moat but only mud. Just a ditch which is always wet. Depending on climate this can be very effective and have less visual impact than a vertical barrier. There's soft radial barriers, lines of ornamental grass. You see these a lot on commercial plantings, especially corners of garden beds and open areas the owner might use by not want people to cut through. Another odd choice is a blind angle. People are generally reluctant to trespass if they can't work out if anyone is present. So a fence coming off the corner of the house for instance would mean someone walking past couldn't tell if you were behind the fence or not. You could ambush them. Similarly if people can't see across an open space, they are unlikely to cut through it, because they're unsure if they can actually get through or if there will be someone on the other side. Developers often put up a star picket fence with three lines of wire. Just to make it clear that it's trespassing to enter, and a camera on a pole. Because often, trespassers will be going to, or fleeing from a crime scene. So putting cameras up in these kinds of spaces is a strong deterrent to crime in the area.
