this was the last big expensive cool tool that I got, husky k770, i eliminated about 2hrs of labor time by using this to cut rebar instead of my old manual cutter/bender.

Im an estimator/ job hunter for a medium sized painting company, I haven't been on site in a while
>>
>>2942594
did you start as a painter or did you just go straight into being an estimator?
>>
>>2942595
Started estimating for me fookin pa, originally he just needed a scribe, but then I said pa you can't just put vague shit here cause you get reamed by the contract later, so I started cracking open the bid sets and reading those. Also studied and worked in architecture so that helped me naturally sidestep towards construction office work which pays better than architecture .

Other option is put some vents/registers where you can adjust the flow? Dampers?

Idk, I’m not an HVAC guy. I’m transitioning from “weekender” to a job where I do a bit of everything. Although yesterday was a ton of filters on different air handlers, unfucking a condensation switch, and replacing a blower motor belt in between other crap with big hydraulic pumps.

If you tell the girl at paint counter to add a shot of black when you're buying paint, she'll know you're a pro. Better coverage that way. Can you confirm or deny this? We've all been wondering for years.
>>

Dude I have no idea. I mostly deal with fat karens at GC offices. Let me see if I can't verify that for you and remember to come back here.

the split tails at my local homeless despot have been told they are not to deviate from the auto tinter and will only mix to a card color or large paint chip in hand. said the managers been cranking the screws down over having to eat mistint at $50+/gal since it turned to liquid good after the kungflu
>>
does anyone else get frustrated because you have to work with low-drive retards
>>
>>2942797
That’s life. If they manage to not break stuff and cause more work for you, I’d count that as a win. I try to have realistic expectations of people. You can’t fix lazy. The worst part is realizing you do 2.5x the work and get paid the same. Hopefully somebody notices the extra effort and it pays off,
>>

>The worst part is realizing you do 2.5x the work and get paid the same.
That's exactly the situation I'm in right now. I'm literally running jobs at my company and this fucking retard who can't understand basic math is getting paid the same as me PLUS he has a company truck and gas card. It's honestly infuriating and I know everyone will just say 'just go work for yourself' but I actually like working at this company and i like the responsibility, i just want to get fairly compensated for it. Going to have a convo with my boss soon and I'm prepared to walk if I don't get what I want. He has a lot to lose, I practically run his business for him.
>>
>>2942803
If you really contribute that much, you will have the leverage because the boss will know there’s a chance you walk and he has to hire another lazy fuck.

Or the alternative… if you can’t beat em, join em!
>>
>>2942764
Definitely would install this if I had IBS and I hated my family
>>
>>2942797
Most people want a paycheck just for showing up and not stealing your shit
>>
>tell retard coworkers that they can go to lunch if they want because it's lunchtime but I'm going to finish what I'm doing and work for another half hour before I go to lunch
>They simply just take an extra half hour long lunch so they end up coming back at the same time as me

I'm so over having to micromanage these fucking idiots into not doing shit like this.
>>
>>2942590
I am a generator technician
>what are you workin on right now
Load banking a brand new 250KW natural gas unit at a luxury condo. Except that I’m not because the retard liars who ran the gas undersized the line and the unit can’t get above 80% load without running out of fuel
>what do you like about your job
Nobody understands what I do or what I work on, so everyone thinks I’m a magician. People either kiss my ass or leave me alone. Most of the time it’s just me, my van, and some random generator in the middle of nowhere. Some of the units I work on are really huge (like the size of a three story building) or have some really interesting setups.
>what do you dislike about your job
It’s a lot of driving, which can be tiring. Probably about half my day is just driving from place to place. It isn’t that bad though. On the whole I don’t really have a lot to complain about
>what was the last tool you bought
A 3/4 drive breaker bar to use as a belt tensioner tool when I change fan belts on some of the medium-sized units

Generator run days are real fun.

The switchgear for all that stuff is above my pay grade though. That’s a lot of 4160V power swapping over from grid to generator and back again.

Trim carpenter here, just got back to full time recently so getting back into the swing of things.

>what are you workin on right now
The builder we're subcontracted to is mostly doing condos at the moment, but we get the odd house here and there. Current house we're doing requested a cedar beam in the greatroom, and I'm not looking forward to going up on our death trap scaffolding.

>what do you like about your job
Hours are generally lax and I just put my earbuds in and get to work. I generally work fast, so I can knock out a condo unit in 2 or 3 8 hour days, whereas it takes our other crew 5 days. Pair that with a slow paint crew and this leads to a lot of 3 and even 4 day weekends.

>what do you dislike about your job
I've been doing this off and on for 10 years, and I still hate the constant feeling of being dirty. I can stand the sweat, but we use shitty MDF trim, and that dust clings to you like no other. Pair that with drywall dust and general grime, I come home feeling like I spent all day in a bag of starch. Also, itt's not uncommin for the framers or drywallers to fuck up on their end, which means I get to hang cabinets on bowed walls and run base around fucked up corners. Don't even get me started on the doors, I had to rip out a jack stud because the framers made the opening too small for the door, and then I had to pound drywall on both sides of the door just to get my casings to lay flat. Pair that with 10+ doors in a house, my arm feels like it'd gonna fall of at the end of the day.

>what was the last tool you bought
Lufkin 25ft tape measure. I like tape measures that have a big end piece so it doesn't slip under the drywall when I'm taking measurement for baseboard. I wish more companies put that on their stuff.
>>
>>2944737
Do you get paid for full weeks even if you finish the job in 2-3 days?
>>
>>2944757
I get paid based on what I get accomplished. Say I run baseboard in a room or hang a door, I charge per room of base or door hung. In short, yes I make the same no matter how long it takes.
>>
>>2944854
nice, sounds like a sweet deal.
>>
>>2944861
Trim carpenter is just about the easiest job there is but the pay is shit.
>>
>>2945384
Im a general carpenter, I do everything from site layout to installing doorknobs, I make $45 an hour. No benefits. What does a trim carpenter make?
