Is it stupid to show up as a new apprentice with high end tools? Im in my 30s and decided to stop officecucking and started as a carpenters apprentice, hence why i had the money for nice tools. Ive done basic carpentry on my own but dont know much. Is it going to rub people the wrong way that a day 1 guy has top of the line shit? Pic related

also if that's the new skilsaw by milwaukee, the 2834 or something, it needs at least a 6ah forge battery, otherwise it'll keep cutting out with anything else other than the new forge batteries or the 8-12ah older high outputs.

Get Cocky with Milwaukee Anon

Don't let the Ryobi Plebs and at fault with DeWalt Dorks deter you. Etch your Name into yours tools and batteries, carve them up so no one can sneak them from you.

Figure out who the crackheads are and keep your tools in sights at all times

>So i should be good then is what you're saying?
Probably.
Showing up with Festool, or top of the line Hilti would be suspicious, and maybe more than one or two Fein tools, but Milwaukee should be fine.
Also, maybe avoid Snap-On for hand tools unless it’s one or two items.
Starrett would also be over the top unless the tool looks old, or the tool is a “basic” Starrett tool like a tape Measure, which used to be fairly affordable.
A Stiletto titanium hammer might also look over priced.
Once your on a crew, look at what others are carrying to figure out price.
>>
>>2943367
as a 30 year old man your balls should have already dropped. You gonna let some highschool dropouts bully you?? lol. you should buy the best tools you can afford and study. if you want to be a real carpernter read about it.

Anon you just got a bunch of basic bitch not shit tools, not top of the line. I agree with >>2943379 that you should try to make them at least a bit dirty, otherwise you're gonna look like either a tool collector faggot or someone that blew $1k on random shit just for the hell of it. Cut and drill random pieces of wood for 8 hours. Also buy 2 new batteries that are at least 5Ah, 2Ah is dogshit on saws and even drills.
>>
>>2943442
>and why are you bringing your own tools?
It never ceases to amaze me how cucked american work practices are. Like you're working for someone else, making them money, yet you still need to provide your own tools and ruin them at your own expense.
I guess the higher wages make up for it but what next, you have to provide your own PPE and consumables lol
>>
>>2943367
I'm in the same boat but I havent bought anything yet... I'm not that worried about what others think of me, but more of the actual "enviroment" of the brand? If I'm throwing a lot of money into a battery connector, I don't want to fall short on the tools available. Milwaukee almost felt perfect after doing a bit of my own research but now I found out about M12 vs M18 and the rabbit hole deepens. It is not getting easier, but thanks for this thread.
>>
>>2943512
If you're going into carpentry, Makita has the second-best track saw, and is 5 times cheaper than the best one from Festool, so that's probably the way to go.
>M12 vs M18
Every brand has a 12V and 18V lineup and most of them have a 40V one as well. 12V is for lightweight tools, nothing else really.

How do you guys deal with being an apprentice in your 30s?
I'm mid 30s myself and currently working under the supervisor of a guy in his late 20s that has no formal training himself, technically I'm not an apprentice I just didn't have any experience, thee company hired me on a minimum wage salary and "well you'll learn as you go" what they didn't tell me was that I would be learning from a functional retard.

I wish I could have been paired with a middle aged boomer that actually knew how to do stuff and would teach me the right way to do things.
>>
>>2943521
Regardless that's also 5 times more expensive.
>>
>>2943523
just act like a man. if you act respectable, people will treat you with respect.
>>
>>2943367
Don’t , I went to a shop with new snap-on tools

If someone needed a tool I lent it

After 2 lends I had to spend a week tracking down all my personal tools

After that I started being greedy

I took all my personal tools home, only started using shop garbage and treated shop tools like everyone else treated my high end tools left them everywhere and didn’t care about them

Keep nice stuff for home

Blue collar people can’t afford nice things and weren’t raised in an environment where nice things exist so just keep them a secret

I guess that's because he's american. Somehow, burgers are expected to bring their own tools to work (and probably to tip their boss, when they're finished).
It's so weird. Also, unlike your OP, who apparently has enough money for some mid-tier stuff, I'd guess most folks getting started can only afford some shit-tier basic-bitch tools, that'll end up producing shit results, after a few hours of heavy use, if not from the start.
Imagine paying big $$$ to a company, only to realize that they'll build you some creaky piece of shit with some run-down Black&Decker, Bosch Green and Einhell tools.

Sweet, a tool brand groupie fight, can I join? Have you heard about our lord and savior, Mirka?
But on the Festool vs Mafell issue, you can't really compare the two. Festool is more into finish carpentry and Mafell is construction site carpentry. It's both working with wood, so naturally there's some overlap.
Anyways, I'm still mad at DeWalt for killing elu.

Are you not allowed to own the means of production? If you’re ruining the tools that your masters allow you to use, I can imagine that you spend more time on the dole than you do working. Any competent tradesman takes proper care of the tools of his trade, because that’s his livelihood.
>>
>>2943625
Miss me with muh communist bullshit.
Unless you're self employed you have no business paying to be able to work, would you also bring your tools if you worked in a factory, restaurant or hospital?
It's cucked behavior, if you're using your own tools to make boss richer might as well let him have a go with your wife lmao.

>>
>>2943633
>Unless you're self employed
Wait... You're not self employed?
LMAO. What a cuck!
>>
>>2943639
Lmao no it's not. It's made in China like the rest of it. I used to own some Milwaukee fuel tools and found them to have poor ergonomics and they broke doing normal carpentry tasks, for example my impact died just putting in an SDS screw after owning it for about 6 months.

I now have Metabo HPT which i like because the tools are cheap while still being the same quality as red, blue, yellow etc. I like the ergonomics of Makita the best but they cost too much now. Metabo HPT is nice because no one else at my job is using that platform and thus no one will steal my batteries.

Most power tools are just replaceable junk, it's the hand tools which you should be really caring about.
>>
>>2943642

>>
>>2943640

employers provide the expensive tools, like in plumbing they provide propress, pex gun, k60, k9, camera, etc. they also provide disposable equipment like sawzaw blades, screws, gloves, drop cloths, etc.
but all trades expect you to provide hand and power tools.
it's simply a matter of holding you accountable for how they're treated. if they gave you a $600 fuel set of drill, impact, sawzaw, skillsaw. you'd treat it like shit
also why don't you own your own tools, don't you diy and side job?
what kind of cuck needs their tools provided for basic work
>>
Toss that skilsaw and get an old corded Makita (5007nb or similar) and you'll pass it on to your great grandchildren. Also unless your rationale with buying Milwaukee is the warranty (and it is a good warranty), you'll never actually need the kind of power they advertise and offer. How often are you going to be driving 5/8" lag bolts through a white oak 10x10 beam? I look at most tools as disposable equipment. I've purchased a number of DeWalt drywall screw guns and tossed them as soon as they start acting weird. They used to be $80 brand new. I toss them off of scaffolds and shit because it doesn't matter. They instantly make me more money than they cost.

This is why I and everyone else favors the old school Makita skilsaws. Everyone has beat the shit out of them and they have been discontinued for years now but you'll still find them on every single roofing job in America. I am a chemist now and so I'm not in the trades and not up to date on the general quality of tools. Buy Occidental pouches, buy Midwest snips and take care of them, don't do the stiletto meme unless you're an old man with rotator cuff problems, and don't be afraid to beat the hell out of everything else including your electric shit. Buy battery adapters too because fuck em
>>
>>2943655
>Buy battery adapters too because fuck em
i buy aftermarket batteries for my milwauke tools
i've got a few legit 8v and 2v but a bunch of chinkware and honestly they're fuckin fine
outside skill saw and demohammer, but i bet there's some chink brands that'll cope it
and they're 10% the price
the chink m12 batteries are almost better, and again 10% pric

Ok we have mostly DeWalt stuff at work, tons of XR, and is it just me or do DeWalt drills all have dogshit chucks? Every single time I try to drill something with one of like 5 different DeWalt drills, the bits slip whenever I’m doing anything more than 1/4” and/or perfectly clean wood. Fuckin fighting the things to drill out some busted studs and like 1/4” thick aluminum.

Haven't been around Dewalt since the late 90's with a 12v Nicad Dewalt drill. But my Milwaukee keyless drill chucks also slip and chew up bits... I'm not exactly easy on drills, They are the one of the few things I can kill consistently. 4.5-5" angle grinders too.

Welcome to the tool addiction

Yeah you do, machinists bring their own tool boxes, hand tools for fixturing, or fixing the cnc machines easy shit like swapping out drives and motors or doing bearing replacements on ball screws

Also micrometers, depth gauges, and calipers all mitutoyo are brought in by factory workers

I’m actually in school for healthcare right now

One thing I would love to understand is how so many of them end up homeless, many of whom despite even having a job.
I remember watching this documentary and there was this woman sleeping in her car in a parking lot despite having two jobs. Fucking insane
>>
>>2943725
We will get there, flats are already seen more as an investment than as homes. Guess we're just lucky to still have some socialist echo rules and buildings.
>>
qualified carpenter here who has worked with a lot of apprentices, no its not stupid they will like it as you are prepared and organised, you also won't have to starting replacing your tools for probably 2 years (they will start dying 1 by 1 eventually).
Good on you for showing initiative, you will be made fun of for buying shit tools btw so keep that in mind. Milwaukee is perfect
>>
>>2943728
Housing has gone insane you everywhere but then again it's all american investment banks and tech companies fault. Places with lots of tourism that have seen homes replaced with airbnbs have already started pushing back. As of now it's mostly left and far left making noise against it but I hope the nationalist right will eventually take the same stance and tell speculators to fuck off.
>>
>>2943725
>I remember watching this documentary and there was this woman sleeping in her car in a parking lot despite having two jobs.
Did it also go into great detail the amount of retarded life choices she made? 95% of the homeless here are just broken people on drugs that make the most retarded self-harm decisions every chance they get. How many kids with different black baby-daddies did she have?
