HiIm trying to make some Zinc Sulfide but i can't find an tutorial on how to. I hope you guys can help me make thisIt would be cool if you guys also help me find some source of Zinc or Sulfur (buying literal zinc and sulfur is not really an option for me, sorry) i do have some zinc supplement at home but i think it wouldn't really help.

>>2945019you can extract zinc from batteries and crush up match heads for sulfer. don't get the strike anywhere ones.heat the powdered match heads to 490ºF (250C) in a pyrex beaker for 10-15 minutes add the resultant powder to a conical flask with mineral oil. add the sulfate powder first and mix gently to release any oxygen bubbles. let settle.after deconstructing your non-alkaline battery remove the zinc casing and cut into tiny flakes. add to beaker and slowly heat to 1665º F (907C) until the solution is saturated and the mineral oil has vaporized. pour and let cool. obviously do all this under your fume hood.you can do this at a much lower temp with a catalyst but boron silicate is much more expensive than just buying the zinc sulfide in the first place so unless you're doing this on an industrial scale it's pointless.
>>2945041I've done separate the zinc out of the battery, carbon rod wrapped in paper. Is there any other reliable source of sulfur i can find? Matches isn't something that's easy to find where i live nowadays. Another thing, should i be worry of the pink sticky goo in the battery? This battery was a newly bought one.
>>2945041US pennies are made of zinc and are a lot easier to extract than batteries.
>>2945019don't. there's a high chance you will evolve H2S and die if you don't know what you're doing.
>>2945019You can buy pretty pure sulfur at a gardening shopFor the zinc, its either batteries or zinc coated (galvanized) sheets metal stuffCut galvanised metal into small chunks.Dissolve in sodium hydroxide (drain cleaner). Reaction yealds sodium zinconate.Perform electrolysis of the solution, use a metallic cathode (negative terminal, copper wire will suffice); metallic zinc should begin to form on the anode(use graphite or copper, positive electrode). Process is long and energy consuming but you will get pure zinc that way
