Im building this one with Australian River Redgum, its 2.9m x 1.1m
They are kinda cool but so overdone everyone is bored of seeing them.
I've got a dying cherry tree in my front yard I kinda wanna get cut up and do a live edge table from. Was debating on doing a river table
>>2946918If it's wide enough just do a slab. Slabs will never go out of style.
>>2946920It may be 20" across the middle
>>2946918Do it! It'll look great
super dumb
>>2946909Will look very dated in the near future
>>2946909This looks like someone's failed attempt at a river table
I fucking hate these reddit tables
I fucking love these glistening Chad slabs.
>>2947341Its obviously not finished yet, dumb dumb. Its just been flattened, now I need to fill any voids, bevel the edges, flip it over to recess the top plate of the black powder coated steel X legs, sand and oil. Probably gove it a ceramic coat too.
>>2946926If you want it wider than 20" just glue up some slabs. Sand the fuck out of it and finish with osmo matt finish
I've always thought they were garish and only poor people have them. Because i suspect that over time they warp and delaminate. I've never seen an old one that was in good condition, maybe I'm wrong. But I suspect they are made because nothing else can really be done with defective wide board. Sink base? Chopping boards? The value of timber is relative to its quality, so timber of the preferred type with defects is still pretty worthless. So guys make these because they can charge poor people the same as solid timber tables, really they're palming of defect wide board.
Also, give the wood a matte finish to make the river stand out, and mount a diffused light LED strip on either side of the river under the table. Poor people love that shit. No table cloth will ever match it, but poor don't use table cloths. It will never match even a single piece of other furniture, not the chairs, dressers, nothing. It's like a pinball machine. Makes the whole room look like shit, but because it looks cool itself this is hard to reconcile mentally
>>2947459>>2947461Cool story bro
I enjoy watching them be made, but I think they're tacky garbage and epoxy is soulless. Give me a nice piece of jointed wood any day.
>>2947461>>2947459Palming of? We pawn off things in the states. I guess they do things differently across the pond. High gloss ceilings and wood paneling let people know I mean business. Poorfags stay out.
>>2946909Looks a bit like cum
>>2947834They're suckers for waterfall countertops in the US. OP should miter the ends so the cum falls to the floor. $$$$$$$ You're in business.
>>2947757>>2947796>>2947834Been filling the holes and sanding them back, got a long way to go
The smell of epoxy in the morning. Comfy swirls in the finish.
>>2948119No shit that you have long way to go if you are using a battery operated 5 inch meme.Get Festool Rotex, its worth it. Rotex mode will chew anything straight, regular is good for finishing. And yes, it does double as forced rotation polisher like Rupes Mille, for your cumstain.Rotex is bit loud tho, so crank vaporwave bit louder from your bluetooth speaker.
>>2948226Well nah, im not spending a fortune on festools just for this one project. I had that sander laying around and its working perfectly fine
>>2946909Nice project, keep us updated
