should I buy a chinese excavator ?they are so cheap
>>2947531Get a used Chinese excavator. They are even cheaper.
govplanet has auctions that have namebrand shit for a few grand. It's gonna be former rental equipment and well used, buyer beware
>>2947676>namebrand shit for a few grandthis is a yootoob mythgov surplus always brings a premium which is stupid because govt employees are hard on shit because not their money/bottomline. when heavy equipment goes cheap theres always something colossally wrong with itt. buys shit from auctions all the time
>>2947678I got a Kubota side by side for $1800 that ran fine, was just cosmetically REKT. It was only 30 minutes from me so I even save don shipping
>>2947531Buy a decent unit at auction do your work and sell it in a few years. Don't buy rotted out bottom of the barrel but mid tier affordable name brand and sell it yourself.
>>2947531No
>>2947713cant afford
>>2947531guy on Youtube brought the biggest normal digger that weights 18 tons and requires Wide and Weight special permits just to move on the road, for $7500, and it all worked. 5 gal oil change. Says they are cheap because so hard to move and no one wants them, and big corp, big govt contracts, can't afford to take chance on downtime and bringing in another unit.
>>2948118He just released another video , he has been working on it for two years since he bought it and admitted it was not worth it
>>2947531I bought an ultra-cheap one, 900kg single-stroke diesel, $5k last year. Over a year, in about 70 engine hours, it's paid for itself, since I ended up in a major renovation project, where I did a ton of trenching and also bought a cheap hydraulic hammer attachment and then did a ton of concrete wrecking. I did a lot of small and some larger mods, notably this model had no thumb attachment point, so I welded one on and then attached a hydraulic thumb (fortunately it at least had the hose), had to also make a /diy/ pedal for it since you couldn't operate the hydraulic hammer otherwise (you need both your hands for guiding it).Had repeated issues with slew ring bolts coming loose, upgrading to better /Belleville/ washers eventually seems to have resolved the issue. There are a ton of smaller problems on it, but nothing particularly noteworthy. It works really well for the money. If you can somehow get a name-brand one used for the same price, then maybe give it some consideration, but the cheapest name brands here started at twice the price.
>>2947531>>2947675Equipment auctions (Ritchie Bros etc.) always seem to have a whole horde of Chinese mini excavators going for pennies on the dollar, often brand new or nearly new. Might be worth looking at those if you want one, not only will it probably be cheaper but it also means they're already in the country and you don't have to deal with shipping, tariffs, etc.
>>2948913>He just released another video , he has been working on it for two years since he bought it and admitted it was not worth itI bought a 13 ton excavator a couple years back and took the smashed up cab off of it to do some extensive repairs and body work, and haven't had a chance to finish it yet... Fuck my life.
>>2949053Did you get a good deal on it? 13 tons is probably easier to sell than an 18 ton. Is it even a oversized load?
>>2949839It's an absolute cherry unit other than the cab being smashed up some. 4000 hour Case cx130. Tight as can be. Was a Union Pacific machine with a rotating grapple on it that was removed before I bought it. Found UP service records and evidence of the rotating grapple documentation written in the cab. I actually think it might have set on a rail car loading and unloading railroad ties because the tracks and undercarriage are immaculate.I gave 49k for it because it was so tight. Only other similar size ones for sale at the time were worn slop out with 14k hours for around 40k. Yes 13 ton machines seem to demand a premium because they can easily be hauled without a bunch of b.s. I have recently been eyeballing a somewhat local case 9030 (22 ton machine) with hydraulic grapple and 6000 hours, for 25k... Too many fucking projects and not enough motivation anymore. Getting old and burnt out sucks man.
>>2949848You need to turn a buck on something you spent 50k on before you buy another project anon.Get your shit together
>>2949895>Get your shit togetherWorking on it man... like I said, just burnt out as fuck here lately. Always have 1000 daily obligations and no time to spend at the shop getting stuff done. I've completed a shit ton of "emergency" projects that pop up daily since pulling that cab, but haven't had the time to get back to working on it for some time. Removed all the inner skin panels, pounded out all the dents, got the door closing and latching pretty damn well. Just need to re-weld the inner skin panels, prime and paint, and then figure out how to make a frame/windshield out of lexan because the front windshield frame that lets it slide up and back was all missing. Shit costs an arm and a leg too to try and buy it from Case... A pull off cab from another machine was around 10k. Fuck it. I'll fix it myself. I want it air tight so I can freeze my balls off with the A/C on while ripping brush and trees out on the river bottom.
>>2949980Thats a sweet machine, I would leave it open air and just put that fucker to work. I could keep that thing working for 9 months a year where I am with no glass
>>2949980You should have never had kids, they suck up all your time
>>2950231fuck yout. amassed a fleet of heavy equipment but not a family thus failing at the prime objective of existence
>>2950241Family will let you down every time but a skid steer will never cheat on you
>>2950231>You should have never had kids, they suck up all your timeIt's not the wife and kids that suck up all my time... >>2950241>t. amassed a fleet of heavy equipment but not a family thus failing at the prime objective of existenceI'm with this anon, what would the point of living even be without having kids to leave your amassed fleet of heavy equipment and land to?
>>2950357Whats the point of amassing things for after you are dead?
>>2951570>Whats the point of amassing things for after you are dead? For me, it's to equip myself to do anything I could ever imagine having to do and set things up to be as easy to take care of as possible. Then I plan to pass it onto my kids so they are set up for life and libshits can seethe and cry about "generational wealth" You know, planning ahead not only for my own wealth and well-being, but also that of my kids and my grandkids.
>>2951628thats pretty gay
>>2951648>thats pretty gayWhatever you gotta tell yourself bud.
OP here, I ended up getting an ZX20RThe bucket is tiny but it digs ok Pretty fun unit
>>2951722Get a 25cm bucket if you only have the 40cm one, and maybe a 80cm one for moving materials. 25cm trenches faster. 80cm helps you tip over and break your arm.
>>2951725I had meant to get all the extra buckets and attachments but I missed the auction close. That little trenching bucket should help along with a ripper tooth in my super rocky soil
I am going to get a ching chong ping pong hat to wear while I run the little machine
>>2951828You should blast stereotypical Chinese music out of the speakers while you run it too.
>>2951829No speakers yet so I will probably have to sing "BING BONG CHINN CHINN DAOU" I could get a decal for the side of my truck that says "City Earth Moving"
>>2951628So you are going to make people exist without consent just because your life seems to lack meaning?
>>2952039>make people exist without consentBabies cannot consent
Well , its not like its going to do the job or a full sized machine, but it sure beats digging with a shovel. Also picking up stuff with the hydraulic thumb is a blast!
>>2952173>picking up stuff with the hydraulic thumb is a blast!I'm always thinking it punches above its class there. I was hauling around concrete that I broke up, and I'd often be like>oh well that's just a tiny piece left over, like a fifth of those big ones I hauled, I'll just toss it over by handand go to the "tiny" piece, and shit my pants lifting it.
Buy a Chinese escalator.
>>2947531A friend bought one and I think he's happy with it. I'm sure it won't survive actual commercial use, though.
>>2952443I think it depends on the work. digging up peoples yards to fix hydrants and delicate work like that it could do for years saving a plumbing business thousands of dollars
>>2952319that excavated quickly

How well do these gas engines hold up over time? How many hours will you get out of something like this
>>2953082The chinks always offer some "premium" variant with a genuine name brand engine for +$500-1000, if you're worried about the engine in particular. But mine has a single piston diesel, and the whole engine can be bought brand new for $300, so if it ever fucks up, I can just replace the whole thing. With some reasonable repairs and preemptive fixes you can probably get 1000 hours out of them.
>>2953093Thanks anon, 1000 hours would be a good startBy then I could buy a real on e
Does anyone else on here have a chinese excavator?
You can buy it on temu
bump
>>2947531A 15hp or biggerI have one and it works okayCouldn't imagine how shitty the 12hp ones are though after running mine through the wringer
>>2955064>>2947531You need to know where to get hydraulic hoses custom made if you buy one. They got wonky sizes on mine
>>2953568I do. Ire20
>>2955207>Ire20that is very similar to minewhat engine ? diesel or gas? What did you pay for it?
>>2955210Mine has a 3 cylinder "kubota" diesel. Paid 8k at auction brand new and bought a skid of attachments and hoses for it for another 1k.
>>2955441Nice , mine is a gasser and no swing boom, I am waiting for the next auction to buy attachments
>>2955454Other than the sickle bar mower and stump tooth i don't think the grapple or rake or tilt bucket are very useful. The non factory attachments have slightly different bucket ear geometry and it limits curl without having a separate modified h link. They also do not utilize the slightly hardened and greaseable stock bucket pins, they just use a bolt.
>>2955466did your skid come with the quick release attachment? I wonder if that helps the geometry I saw a video on the rake attachment that showed how some are poorly made where the 2 inch main bar is actually very thin walled stock
>>2955441Is it a real kubota or a chinee knockoff ?
>>2955526Yes it came with the quick attach thing but its absolutely trash. There are decent looking spring style ones but mine is bolt tension and it came loose every 2 minutes just moving loose gravel. Would definitely not recommend.
>>2955949Not actually sure. It seems real but I don't necessarily trust the Chinese. Came with a serial number and manual but I haven't called my kubota dealer to run the serial number yet. It does run very good though.
>>2956000I also have bolt tension, and it only ever comes undone if I'm using the hydraulic hammer. But maybe add (good) spring washers to it, Bellevilles.
>>2956005Worth a shot for sure.
>>2948928yo, i think i saw them on modern marvels or nova, used equipment has a certification process just like carmax shit is often in the condition they say it is.
>>2956139chinee excavators are brand new at the auctions
Do they make a plate compacter attachment ?
>>2947531YeahWhat could go wrong?
>>2947676>govplanet>buy a machine sight unseen>do a wheelbarrow load of paperwork because government>wait for months until Shaniqua finally sees your papers(her 3rd lunch accidentally fell on them and she saw your name)>noooo you have to get it out of the lot in next 36 seconds, this is supremely urgent!!!111!!>get the machine>it's flogged beyond human comprehension>spend about 2 Chinese excavators worth repairing it or sell for scrap>>2947531They are OK, expect to pay 2x-3x the stated value on Chinese sites because of transport and importsOr just pay an importer 4x-5x and get it now.
>>2956639I got mines at an auction , best of both worldsThe auction sites are flooded with brand new ones
>>2956553They exist but they probably cost vastly more than the /diy/ alternative, I'd rig up a quick attach point to a normal gas compactor and just run it with that. A 1t excavator can lift about 100kg at the business end without much drama and with mild rollover risk. https://jtexcavator.com/others-attachments/hydraulic-plate-compactor.html these have 200kg as smallest model, for 2t digger.
>>2956669That is a pretty sweet looking unit. I was hoping there was a cheesy knockoff for the 1t kinda like the auger
>>2956703I'd assume you could find something, I've spent like 2 minutes on googel to get to that. Maybe alibaba.
>>2956706I have looked and so far it does not exist , at least not at the auctions
>>2947531It may be better financial sense to hire one, unless you're regularly exhuming chinks
>>2957227I dont engage in unearthing chinee, just some permaculture here and there
>>2947531They did a good job on the railroad.
>>2959199its doneThey DONE a good job on the railroad
>>2947531No biy a real tractor
Local auction tomorrow and I think there is something like 41 chinese mini excavators there... This is probably the 5th or 6th time they have had an auction loaded with these things. The area I live in isn't heavily populated. How is the market not completely over-saturated with these things by now?
>>2959415imagine how stupid the guys that bought them for $10-15k when they first showed up during kungflu feel now? there was some fuckwit down the road that bought about 10 of them from rb for about $8k ea and was trying to flip them for $13k without even scraping the lot number stickers offthe fuck your neighbor in the ass mentality that really blossomed starting then has just led to such a festering prolapse in every facet of life now
>>2959415Are you thinking about buying one? They are pretty handy if you have property.Dont pay more than 3500 for a one cylinder Dont pay more than 5k for a two cylinder. If you want a diesel you will pay even more.Dont get one without a thumbTry to get one with a wider stance , like over 40 inches Grease and change all fluid immediatelyMake sure you get pilot controlsYou will need to adjust the pressure in the controls , it will be super jerky when you pick it up
>>2959419I bought mine last month for about 5k but its not the super cheap modelThis week I watched a bunch of one cylinder ones go for as low as 2kI almost bought one just on principle
>>2959708>Are you thinking about buying one? They are pretty handy if you have property.I'm the anon that was at the auction a couple weeks back. The small one cylinder ones brought 1700-1900 bucks. I do have property, but honestly they are way too small for anything I'd want to do with them. Already have a smallish trencher with a backhoe on it for digging in tight places and trenching. >>2962752>I bought mine last month for about 5k but its not the super cheap model>This week I watched a bunch of one cylinder ones go for as low as 2k>I almost bought one just on principle. Same. Good thing the auction was a couple weeks back and I really have much disposable income at the time. If it was this week or next I probably would have stupidly bought one just to fuck around with.
