If you use this to create an impact that's far larger than you could achieve with a punch, it's sending all that force back through your arm. Possibly braking bones or dislocating your elbow or shoulder depending on how you've attached it to yourself and the position of your arm when it fires off.

This. A potential workaround is if the force is concentrated into an object with low mass like a bullet then it will have as much recoil as a handgun, but at that point you would be shooting/stabbing, not punching. If your heart is set on punching harder then make an armored gauntlet weighted with lead or something else heavy and train with it, or build some kind of fully robotic arm and strap it to your core with a harness to keep your own arm out of the equation entirely.

You could fix this by isolating any reactive impulse from your arm. e.i. let the thing disconnect from your arm on impact, or let is slide back and disperse the force over time.
