I am at my wits end. I have a GE GTW460ASJ washing machine that will not stop failing a wash cycle due to an imbalanced loadI replaced the suspension rods, I made sure its level, I took it apart and inspected all components, belts, pump, vacuum line, etc.I ran the diag, only shows unbalanced load error. everything else seems to be working. It does not have a balance weight, but it will always go out of balance and end the wash cycle. I cant wash more than a few items of laundry at a time. Even if I place all the items in carefully and manually spin the drum to ensure its not wobbling, it will still go out of balance during the wash.It usually ends up wrangling and knotting my cloths during the wash creating lobs of wet balled up clothing that causes it to go out of balance.I have reviewed all available parts on this washer and dont see anything else that could be replaced or serviced. What else could this be?
>>2950861buy a new washing machine and while you're at it get a front loader that doesn't tear giant holes in your tshirts
>>2950861insufficient water to clothes ratio? water is a lubricate, low flow was a bad idea.
Cracked frame/rotor? Or bad main bearing? Those are common causes of imbalance on other front loaders. Its never just the dampers.
Appliance repair is fucked. I can barely wrap my head around how poorly new products are designed and their fail-point computer monitoring. They sell busted appliances for $10-20 at area hardware stores. It'd be better business to resell those for parts online than to try to fix them.
>>2950958water level doesnt make a difference here. this happens when I wash a single item using minimal water like a bathrobe, or a full load with a large blanket.the machine becomes unbalanced and wobbles before spinning down and ending the wash.before this i had no issues washing a single item even if it balled up into one side of the drum.>>2951008i dont think so, the drum has no play and doesnt make any weird noise. this is a top loader btw.>>2950921while I really dont want to spend $400+ on a new washer that will no longer match my dryer, I will if I have to. obviously i would rather get this repaired than toss it.i was looking at speed queens, those are all top loaders. and are $1500i found an appliance repair store that will diagnose it if i bring it in for $25. im gonna do that this weekend if I cant figure this out myself.next thing i wanna look at is that water balance weight. i cant find any pictures of it or a diagram, i do hear water slushing around it when its empty, so it didnt crack or leak. maybe its stuck and wont slide freely.
>>2950861>shows unbalanced load errorbypass the unbalanced load sensor
>>2951037He probably can't as there is no unbalanced load sensor. 90% chance it has a drum speed sensor and it detect unbalanced loads by a fluctuating rpm reading.OP, could be belt slip or motor failing. If it's a high hour unit throwing a belt at it would be a good move even if that's not the problem.
>>2950861Getting the diagnostic mode to start up is impossible.
>>2951026>this happens when I wash a single item using minimal water like a bathrobe, or a full load with a large blanket.Single items unbalance due to distribution of the load. You need to have something around the drum to get close to balanced so the machine can do the rest.Add other items so they can offset each other.
>>2951154nah, it used to work fine with a single item and never go out of balance.now it goes out of balance with a single time, a full load, or a single large blanket.even if i was two items, like a towel, they will slide to one side and bunch up.i dropped it off at an appliance repair, i spoke to the tech, he said he tried a software update, its still going off balance, and he's still working on it.
I got word from the appliance repair. The balance ring is worn out, the entire drum needs to be replaced, the part is no longer available.Does anyone know if it can still be repaired? Im having a hard time finding a schematic showing what this water filled balance ring looks like.If not, what washer can you recommend me? I would like to buy it from Costco, and it absolutely cannot have any wifi capabilities.
>>2952018the oldest washer they sell at a used appliance store will give you the best resultssorry
>>2952018The balance ring is the big grey ring on top of the drum. It's typically filled with liquid that will naturally try to balance the drum while it spins. Not sure how it can "wear out" without leaking all the fluid out or something.
>>2952179the tech said something about wear markers on the balance ring are beyond their wear limit. I called him back asking for a followup.is it 316 in this image?thats the whole drum, im not finding any other info on it.
>>2952195>is it 316 in this image?Washer Spin Basket
>>2952251yes, and the water filled balance ring is part of that.
I have enough points on my CC to buy a new washer. They got GE and these are the highest two models that do not have Smart/App bullshit.GTW485ASWWB vs GTW585BSVWSwhich is better? the VWS model has a digital display, and glass lid.One says dual action agitator, the other says true dual action agitator.the rest of the specs appear to be the same or similar with different wording from the manufacturer. https://www.geappliances.com/appliance/GE-4-5-cu-ft-Capacity-Washer-with-Stainless-Steel-Basket-Cold-Plus-and-Wash-Boost-GTW485ASWWBvshttps://www.geappliances.com/appliance/GE-4-5-cu-ft-Capacity-Washer-with-Water-Level-Control-GTW585BSVWShelp me decide.
>>2952659>the VWS model has a digital display, more to go wrong
>>2952692Probably. Looking more into it, both are functionally the same. the one with the digitals controls has a time display and a glass door. I kinda like that.I was looking at the only front loader within my points range, GFW550SSNWWit has wifi and smart capabilities. im looking to determine if I can use it without ever using an app or connecting it to my wifi.
>>2951026>i was looking at speed queens, those are all top loaders. and are $1500There's also Dexter, but they're fuckheug.
>>2953321>im looking to determine if I can use it without ever using an app or connecting it to my wifi.My apartment has one. I've never used its smart device settings. The smartest thing I do with it is set a time delay to start washing so I can throw it in the dryer by the time I get home.
>all that effort when you could just buy a working used one from someone elseUnless it's a drain pump or level issue, 95% of washing machine repairs just aren't worth it>t. whitegoods flipper
>>2952018>Facebook marketplace>Washing machine >30 results under $150Why on earth would you waste your time with this garbage
>>2954752I do not use FacebookI will not buy a used washing machine. That is fucking disgusting and white trash.I have enough points on my CC to get a free washer, why the FUCK would I spend money on a used one?
>>2954836I mean this post is 100% in line with all the evidence that you're financially retardedWashers change the water every load, top loaders traditionally don't even hold water between loadsIf you're really spooked, you can run bleach through a used one but that would be entirely unnecessary for cleanliness I hope you realize how financially illiterate you are before you hit 50 and have absolutely no net worth

>>2954847have you ever seen a used washer before? there is so much nasty shit under the lid and around the drum. i would never in my life bring such filth inside my home.whats wrong with my financial situation? i have 200,000 points on my cc which is the equivalent of $1100. i can order a new washer for free.
>>2954875>i can order a new washer for free.New washers are garbage designed to die in 10 years. Get something made in the 20th century without any bullshit "smart" controls. They were designed to survive nuclear wars.
>>2954946thisit's super insane i can't fill a modern washer with water and let it soak or drain on demand
>>2954875They literally sell sanitizing tablets if you're that big of a whiny bitchAt this point, the hour or 2 of running cleaning cycles on an older, better built machine is well worth it given how absolutely garbage modern appliances are1) not having a straight cash back % card is retarded2) That $1100 is your money. You haven't already ordered one because you know this deep down in your malformed brain somewhere and you know it's a bad deal to order a new one.3) making decisions because "it's icky" instead of "it makes financial sense" will keep you poor for fucking ever

>>2955074>4>>2954875yeah i was trying to think oi an example but literally everything hidden froom sight is like this and it don't matterolder appliances are beyond worth
>>2955071its an airline card. I only use points to buy airline tickets. I dont like flying and would never pay for a ticket out of pocket. having "free" tickets is a brain hack i do to myself to justify flying. it costs less points to buy it vs $ anyway.i have way more points than i need for any round trip flight i may take, so why not use some for a washing machine?i haven't made a decision yet cause im trying to figure out this "smart" washer wifi bullshit.btw, im showing you the crap thats outside the drum. not inside. most washers unless used with straight well water are clean inside.enjoy brining in bed bugs into your home with your used appliances. >>2954946 i cannot justify spending $1200 on a speed queen>>2955074i actually have. i moved into this house and got 2 50" inline whole house filters, a new water softener tank, added an iron filter and had all the lines flushed with chlorine. i also hooked up my fridge to a reverse osmosis filter and replaced all the lines.the garden hoses they left behind were trash, i tossed them and spent $2 per foot on an Eley hose.it took 3 days until brown stopped coming out of my taps.i also moved all the appliances and cleaned the ever living shit out of the spaces behind them and all the house vents and the stove, fridge, dishwasher, etc. i hate dirt
