Do you use multitools in your DIY projects as main tools or is it standard tools for you? Personally, I use pic related as my main when I do woodworking. Haven't touched pliers, drivers, knives or saws since I picked it up.

No I used to carry one, and despite working on things all the time, I rarely used it in favor of real tools.

>Haven't touched pliers, drivers, knives or saws since I picked it up.
bullshit. all of the "tools" on a multitool are cumbersome and annoying to use. I highly doubt you are sawing a 2x4 with a multitool.

also buy an ad.

I used to daily one and used it fairly often for random /diy/. At home I don't touch them as I have a garage full of tools and it would be stupid to choose a multitool over a normal tool.

Now I carry a spiderco tenacious G10 on trips or a microlight in the summer, mostly for those pesky river teens. I don't need to be more than the "knife guy" who always has a knife but I don't bother with anything else an have never wished for a multitool when I didn't have one.

>bullshit.

100% true

>all of the "tools" on a multitool are cumbersome and annoying to use.

Stop buying cheap shit. Leatherman is top tier quality, very handy and very comfy. Nothing beats that feeling.

>I highly doubt you are sawing a 2x4 with a multitool

Obviously I am using an electric saw for that or my trusty circular saw. The point is when I want to saw something small I use my multitool not a hand saw.

anytime anyone buys one of these sure they loove they feeling but they also buy one of the cheap ones from like dewalt for actual jobs because they're too scared to risk the expensive one for real work and that pretty much is the essence of it

how many belt holsters and fannypacks do you wear on an average trip out of the basement?
the under/over is 3

Yeah that's retarded and I've noticed it as well. They are work toold and dhould be used for that. Expensive ones are heavy duty.

0. Multitool goes in my pocket and it's used for yard work and woodworking not trips to the mall looking prett.

those are the only ones I ever owned. they are useless.

I have a Skeletool I use all the time, but I don't set out to do something using it.
Sometimes you just need to cut something open, undo a single screw on a switch plate, use the flathead to pry something or the pliers to grab or pull on a wire.
Sometimes you're on the ground or up under a vehicle or a sink and you grab it out of your pocket.
That's what it's for.

Based. I'm buying one as a gift for my brother next month. Any regrets? Recommendations?

All the stuff I built in my yard says otherwise

>I don't set out to do something using it.

When I do woodworking I specifically choose my mutlitool and know it will be the tool that day.
>>
I don't know that it's my main tool for anything, but if you're trying to travel light, a multitool can be a good enough replacement for a lot. I was given a Wave nearly a decade ago, and I've used it a lot when I'm too lazy to walk across the building and grab the correct tool.

The scissors, pliers, saw, file, and carbide cutters have been useful many times. I don't use the knives for anything beyond opening boxes and fruit. I'm tempted by the new Wave Alpha simply because leatherman got rid of the one spot that I tend to pinch myself with when using the pliers.
>>

lel at the pinch. I know it well. I'm waiting for black friday or other holiday doscounts and getting the alpha.
>>

The side bit holder is loose sometimes and needs to be pinched to hold the bit better. The rivets and return spring in the handle work loose so it doesn't retain the working bit very well.

These are all easy to solve with very high mechanical senses.

Still annoyed both of mine walked off at work.

They're very much secondary/backup tools for me. Nice to have in a backpack, glovebox, office desk drawer, etc. but not a go-to tool in the shop.

>>2951502
If it weren't so expensive I'd be interested in the new Wave too, just for the much more useful-looking scissors that have replaced the serrated blade I never use on my old one. I can't stomach $200 for a multitool though, especially when a lot of that is coming from fancy steel for a knife blade I'll rarely/never use since I've always got a real pocketknife on me.

This. Gerber MP600 farmer guy here. It's always there and has prevented me from having to crawl out from under something and walk to the toolbox or quickly fix something in the field and avoid walking miles back to the pickup for tools. Sometimes it is my go to for certain stuff even when other tools are close by just because it it works of still saved me 25' of walking.

The pliers on it are by far the most often used aspect. I keep the knives (smooth and serrated) for special tasks where I need a sharp and pointy or serrated blade. My other pocket clip knife takes 99% of the abuse there though. Screwdriver bits see occasional use. The file on the thing is probably the 2nd most used tool after the pliers though. It's gotten me out of a jam many times.

I can't have multitools without files anymore
>>
>>2951547
Speaking of the Gerber, I've been thinking about picking up a 600 Pro Scout to throw in my welding bag. Seems like a decent option for stuff I need occasionally but don't want to carry dedicated versions of and $89 is a lot more palatable than current Leatherman prices.
>>
>>2951547
>>2951567
tools that require you to open the pliers in order to access the knife are garbage, knife and something else need to be on the outside
>>
>>2951332
Not as a standard tool/main tool ever.
