what are the most important tools that every home repairs diy aficionado should own?

finger box
>>
Mid-tier socket set. It doesn't have to be Matco or Snap-On but not 'China' stamped shit either

Dewalt power tools, a drill, maybe a recip saw

A screwdriver set, again not chinesium. They just strip.

Adjustable pliers, adjustable wrench

NTA but adding to this with additions that AREN'T mandatory but have been used enough that I would consider them necessary adjacent.

Deep socketed wratchet set
Various types of speciality tape (plumber, electrical, duct, etc)
Wire strippers
Measuring tape

Echoing what he said about buying mid-tier stuff. Chinese shit just flat out breaks too often if used with frequency and force.

Folding knife will be able to do everything

A multi bit screwdriver set
A demolition screwdriver (flathead) that you can be retarded with
A 3/8 socket set does 99% of tasks you'll ever need sockets for
The 4 "basic" pliers: slip joint, long nose, side cutters, and "water pump pliers" either old school channellock style or newer cobra style
Adjustable wrench
Any kind of knife that uses standard replaceable box cutter blades
A hammer
A drill and drill bit set
A level is advised

These cover the basics any wannabe diyfag should have around to avoid paying a handyman $150/hr to come fix a leaky faucet or replace a dead electrical outlet

>maybe a recip saw
Nearly useless tool is nearly useless

Like two days ago I tightened the legs on my dining table

Might not use them for general home repair but most people have a bicycle or lawnmower that needs occasional maintenance. Put together a grill a few weeks ago that used a lot of carriage bolts and nuts. It came with this dogshit micro nut driver made of plastic that would have been extraordinarily frustrating to use, just used socket & ratchet instead.

12inch sliding miter saw. Just jump whole hog and get a big one used.
