ITT: amusing nicknames that tradesmen use for their tools / parts / supplies / whatever. I realize it’s not strictly /diy-related, but a lot of tradesmen frequent this board.

Cable linemen call this lube “camel spooge” because it’s gooey and orange. Really funny to watch it blast out of a conduit with an air compressor on the other end.

This is a toner for RG6 / 11 / etc… a.k.a. the “crackpipe.” Hey Mike, can you pass me the crackpipe?

A gel-splice case that is crimped over a barrel splice, usually use to protect buried cable after it has been repaired. The “spooge coffin.” The manufacturer actually started dying their gel blue because of this.

Last one just to get thread started. Tell me yours, let’s have a laugh.

cant be bothered to upload pics but
- diagonal cutters are called dikes
- jerry can nozzles are called donkey dicks
- tamper detection paint is called birdshit

We call it KY astroglide. Actually, it probably cones out of the same factory.

The terminal box on motors got called "pecker head" at a place I used to work at. Idk if it's standard or not.

I had a brief summer job in college working for a friend's aunt's asphalt resurfacing company. Her husband referred to the tar or whatever the black shit we were putting down as "gook". So we had gook buckets and gook brushes and had to try to keep the gook off of us.

We have 500' reels of fiber that we use in my job doing event production, the protective plastic sleeves around the end are referred to as dildos. If you have to connect two reels together, you're docking them.

The layer of impurities that sits on top of the wax and honey during extraction is called slum gum. Actually good for firestarting considering it's mostly shit tier wax and broken wood chunks.
For mite treatment, we'd mix 6 tubs of crisco and food dye to make sure the clear treatment was all incorporated. Called that yogurt
Then in high school, auto shop teacher called the grease tub next to the tire machine goober sauce bc it looked like peanut butter.

I get peckerhead on motors as well.

We’ve had much discussion about manholes and manways lately, and it’s 2025 and I like to be inclusive, so I call people on the radio and tell them to pass me a 9/16” wrench through the they/themhole.

In the painters trade if you want your white ceiling paint to cover better you tell the guy at the paint shop to put a shot of black in it.

The "chinese finger trap" used for pulling cable is sometimes called a horse cock
>>
>>2953128
That’s funny. We call it the Chinese penis trap.
The little clamps used to hold lashing wire are “bug nuts”
The big clamps used to secure guy wire to utility pole bolts are “bitch clamps”
The big roller wheel used for pulling cable at an angle are “snatch blocks”
Clamp used for tightening guy wire is a “pork chop”
When someone sees a hot chick walking by, they call out, “Squirrel!” to alert their coworkers without alerting the woman
What else… circular saw is the Black n Decker Pecker Wrecker

You know that advice that gets bandied around about how you should "join a trade"? This thread is a good reason to avoid trades.

You mean the Scepter Military Fuel Spout?

These things age poorly and crack in storage. It was better to buy a self-priming siphon instead of using the spout. I even made one with steel NPT adapters that only needs a hose. Way more durable and serviceable.
