Gray is the new white. It is a neutral color.

Vinyl click lock flooring is some of the cheapest flooring available. The material cost is a bit more than some other types but it installs faster.

I don't feel it. In rooms like that feel ancious to do anything that falls under 'daily life' because it could leave crumps or stains. I also feel visually impaired.
>>
>>2954520
The problem with this is that it has character, meaning some people will really like it and some people won't. So it messes with the resale value which is the most important thing about a property is its value as an investment.

That's a nah from me bro... Large, cavernous and open with a ton of wasted space doesn't scream comfy to me...

It only looks good in the soft lit photo, in reality its still made of the same cheap sheet rock and the trim is gold plated plastic that flakes off with time.

>>2954522
Everything in this photo is generic imported junk. Nobody is making any money off it. If Brand wants you to consoom Product it is easier to sell when everyone's shit looks the same. This way your living space consists of Kitchenaid Mixer, Samsung TV, Roomba docking station, etc. and nobody gives a fuck what anything looks like as long as it's new and clean and not dirty wall to wall carpet with cigarette burns and potato chip crumbs everywhere. Absence of style is the new style.

that hearth is insane. his archtetical digest episode was neat, not sure what the the bunk bed crazy is about seems like something you should rent not have built in. so many celebs put in bunk beds like its a sleep away camp or something,
>>
>>2957095
>not sure what the the bunk bed crazy is about
he did say it's used by children and drunk adults, so it's mostly for sleepovers or for party guests. It's cool for kids imo, but I had no idea this was a trend among rich people and it would make a lot less sense for a childless couple

I honestly don't know why people like bright lighting so much.
Much prefer a dimly lit lounge over a well lit fucking doctor's office.
>>
>>2954522
This becomes shittier the more I look at it.

>3 million lights on the ceiling (good luck keeping all of them working)
>unnecessary use of glass everywhere (accidents waiting to happen, also very expensive since these pieces are custom made)
>pots embedded in the floor structure (can't move them and brings all kinds of moisture and filtration problems)
>bad placement of said plants
>vinyl floor with shitty uneven pattern

Slopchitecture at it's finest.
Less is more.

I hate houses where everything feels flimsy, fragile, overly clean.
I was raising on a farm so I guess I'm just used to living roughly but damn, houses are meant to live in, not to tiptoe around

>>
>>2958070
I don't think it's that. Homes like the second picture are only popular among people who have jobs where they work from home. Working from home wouldn't be so popular if The Man wanted people to constantly be going out. Instead, they want people's new home offices to look like regular offices.
>>
>>2960015
>Working from home wouldn't be so popular if The Man wanted people to constantly be going out.
Or it's popular because you can save a ton of money on gas and vehicular wear and tear, can be just as productive as in-office, or more so because you can control your environment, and getting little home tasks or errands done is a lot easier.

Wonder how those are built. Does that extend down into what would otherwise be the house's crawl space? If it's a slab, is it going down into the ground? Are there problems with moisture? Or is the rest of the room built up over the floor, with only the conversation pit being at the floor level?
>>
>>2954520
basically all decisons about that come from faggots and entitled bitches, use whatever the fuck you want and like, fuck the tendencies
>>
>>2960086
ball pit, is that easier to clean than a foam pit?
>>
When houses became investments rather than living spaces where the occupant was free to express himself.
>>
>>2960316
Yes. There are vacuums and machines specifically for cleaning ball pits and the balls. Foam degrades and can't really be cleaned.
>>
>>2960134
The miller house's pit is definitely below ground level. Outside pictures show that it's built on a slab, it's very flush with ground. You can see the formwork around the pit. I'm sure it's poured right against the ground as is, I don't think people put insulation against the ground or trenching back then. In some areas the soil penetrates water like a motherfucker and no shanty shack ever begins to mold
>>

One of the many things I hate about modern basedciety. All the fucking bullshit unsolicited real estate and decorating advice normgroids give you, for trendiness and resale value.
>i'm the one who's paying for this and who lives here, not you, so go take a fucking hike

I've lived long enough to know that in periods of strong demand, buyers don't give a shit about all the design choices anyway. Live how you want.

>>
>>2954520
The issue with this is the lighting is almost intoxicating. If you’re a junkie I’m sure this is comfortable. I’ll never understand why people go for the shitty blue LED vibe. Your pic is a bit different with that couch and the rug but same nauseating overstimulating vibe.
>>2954522
This is just calm. It’s too bland for me, would look better without the grey and more off white / almost cream colors and darker wood grains, better couch set up better coffee table. Essentially needs to look more rustic Mediterranean than this weird hospital shit. The floor is also done wrong or whatever they used looks weird and artificial like you can’t help but notice it.
>changes
Dark wood laminate floor
>cream colored couch, more couch
>wood coffee table
>no grey walls
>neutral white color walls maybe a couple accent walls
>no LED lights, amber incandescent bulbs
>art on walls
>remove the glass
>non carpeted stairs
>ditch snake plants on left side of stairs, use bamboo or more of the palm tree looking plant on the right side
>kitchen gets almost jade green but redone so it doesn’t have that glossy look, something that looks Tuscan / brick

It’s just too square and bland. It looks try hard and unnatural. It gives a weird almost ghost town vibe. It’s like it’s going for a minimalism vibe but missing the entire point

sunk in living areas were the big thing back then. kind of like a Den for Swingers to swing

those are called Open Tread Stairs and babies would crawl up or down them and then crawl between the stairs and get caught and hung up or fall to the floor sometimes at a hieght that would kill them

California was one of the first "Nanny States"
>copy pasted law
1012.10.1 Guardrails. Guardrails shall be provided on the open sides of stairways and landings that are more than 30 inches (762 mm) above the floor or grade below. big houses like this aren't cabins. they're retreats and if you have a house that big in the mountains it should be more Germanic or Scandinavian. The classic Wood or log cabin is more Slavic. Germanics used stone in the risers. much more attractive and culture.

think of it as Russians simplifying shit besides the year of the Tzar the Russians are simple minded fucks. they Slavic use duct tape to fix the ISS and other space crafts, they're cheap bastards
