Does anybody actually like using these? I fucking hate themIs there any alternative other than a really sharp razor blade and 4 extra hours of my life?
>yes mine broke>yes its my fault
What's there not to like? It does a lot of things, pretty fast.
>>2955658/diy/Does anybody ever do this?
skill issue
>>2955658Honestly if you alredy have a hand plane or chisel then a router is pretty much obsolete
>>2955679wow, just wow
>>2955670
>>2955658Why does it look so uncanny? It feels like it's thrown together of cheap and fine looking parts in an absurd arrangement.
desu i think i might start trying to move away from using power tools entirelyi am SICK of hearing loud machines day in, day outthere is always always ALWAYS some yokel running a lawnmower or a leafblower or a chainsaw or some shit and there's never any chance to just hear the sounds of the wind and the birdsi don't want to contribute to that shit any more than i have toalso i'm tired of wearing ear and eye protection for every single operationalso i'm tired of breathing in sawdust and glue and shit. hand tools are just a lot less messy.also the sun is gonna take out all the electricity globally soon and i want to be ready.power routers have been very useful for me in the past and there are times when i lament not owning one.
>>2955658Molding planes, router planes, or shapers.
>>2955658Why would you not like them? Just gotta be careful and not fuck up your whatever you're working on
>>2955658i was burning up a few bosch routers a year so i bought this one and it fucks. i love routers.
>>2956475This. If I need a clean accurate repeatable cut I will use my tablesaw, but I will always prefer hand tools. Fuck routers, fuck sanders, doublefuck multitools. Drills are okay.
>>2956648multitools are for demolition and remodeling. Why are you using them for woodworking?
>>2956720not that anon>installing door jambs before floors go in>butt the bottom face of the blade against a scrap piece of flooring>BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZperfect fit.
>>2955658I fucking despise them>>2956776They should ban plumbers from being allowed to buy multitools
>>2956584>burning up?I've only had a hand-me-down router burn. The brushes do go out regularly on most. Are you doing a lot of plunge cuts?
>>2955658>Is there any alternativeHow much do yo have to cut? I do small jobs with a chisel or a Stanly No 45. But more than a few feet of cutting and the power tools are handy.
>>2956819i sometimes make my own moldings on jobsites and it goes a lot faster if you do it in one pass :)
>>2955658I used this tool for the first time when building a pair of speakers and nearly killed myself from the kickback which made the fucking this fly when i cut too deep and too fast. somehow the bit didn't fly off.I like this tool.
>>2956475what about floor machines with induction motors
>>2956720I use them as freehand Domino
>>2956819not that anon but I use the milwaukee 3.5hp router to cut arunda dovetailsI put about 2-3 into the grave every year, even after hogging out most of the cut on the female side with a drill bit first
>>2955658there used to be a show that ran for a few years on PBS that was a guy who built some really nice furniture using pretty much only a router.Stop being so spastic, calm the fuck down and learn to use the tool with some forethought and patience and you will be just fine. A router is one of the most handy tools you can use for the jobs it is intended for and for some jobs where it is an alternative to spending a lot more money for the right tool.
>>2959496get the festool or the mafell https://www.timberwolftools.com/mafell-lo65ec-hand-routermafell is made for the arunda dovetail system, it's expensive and 240v but having the right tool for the job is really nice in my experience
>>2959778I absolutely would love too, just need to talk the boss into it. It's kind of a hard sell price-wise, and we don't have 240 set up right now so that's another expense. We do have a couple mafell tools and we all know how sick they are, but that's a very expensive router. Also I kind of like the full bar handles of the milwaukee vs the knobs on the mafell. If you hit a knot or the bit grabs it's fucking sketchy, I'd really rather have more control over it than less desu
First couple routers I got as a kid were kind of scary. I was always scared of power tools until I got used to using them but routers only went from scary to tedious. The setup, never quite went right, like I made a jig to cut a mortice in a couple passes, cut lines stood out because depth changed. Why? Don't know.Anyway, then I bought this little cheap shit 1/4 trim router on amazon. Some bullshit Chinese brand. Fucking love it. Any excuse to get it out. Door hinges, uh..... I think I cut a rebate for a desk with it....uh...that's it but I do have fun using it. One time I did try to take too big cut and the thing fucking snagged and flew out my hand lol, rocker switch so I baked the plug out the wall. Had to change my underwear but no harm no foul we forgave each other.Every year or so I think oh this could do with a router table, look at inserts, decide I can do a different way without spending hundreds on kerg or whatever shite. Accessories are ruthlessly expensive. Yeah routers are alright desu.
