Installed this Safire Buffalo in the backyard 7 weeks ago today. Been giving it seasol once every 2 weeks and gave it its furst dose of fertiliser 1 week ago. Just gave it a move at 40mm and I think its come up pretty good
>>2957446fuck off Hank Hill.
That looks good anon
>>2957447Hank Hill had St. Augustine
>>2957449same thing
>>2957452Hmm I'll be damned, so it is.
>>2957449Same type of grass, its just in Australia we call it Buffalo
>>2957446Looks good, whats you trick?

Moved in and started to remodel this lawn 3 years ago. Been mowing it occasionally and added several weeds. Forget-me-not and ground ivy came up pretty good, also lots of hawkweed(?) and lamb's lettuce which arrived on their own.
Suprisingly the blue bugle only really popped up this year I didn't knew they take so long when growing from seed. No luck with violets and cuckoo bittercress though maybe I should try again and water for some weeks.
>>2957835>>2957836Interesting. You going for the natural look?
>>2957989Yeah, I'd love a look somewhat simillar to the mossy fairy lawn of my old place but the soil's different so I'll take everything that's comfy enough and survives without watering or special care. Big fat bonus if it has pretty flowers or attracts critters. The sunny part might never work as well on sand as it did on clay but this more shadowy part looks promising already I think.
>>2958038Looks great! I hope it works out for you
>>2957446Looks comfy
>>2957446Ngl your lawn looks pretty fucked up whats even going on there jfc
>>2958184Would walk on/10
I have given up
>>2958345Too much shade from the (pine?) tree
>>2958345vacuuming your lawn might help it is a weird trick that most people think is crazy but most people have a vacuum and removes little pebbles and other contaminates that are not being used or chocking your grass.i feel weird dragging out the shop vacuum and running it over the grass but my lawn looks better, the floor nozzle is the most sensible part of the whole ridiculous ordeal.
>>2958486basically a ghetto scarifier
>>2958345Dogs?
>>2957446>my HOA designated 12x12 grass square
>>2958569Lol does look like that
>>2958486Cant imagine thats good for your vacuum cleaner
>>2957446Where do i get grass like that?
>>2958424No, pine is to the north, that's the south fenceit's a combination of extremely uneven ground, lots of roots, and a neighbor who thinks creeping morningglory is a great decorative plant and keeps tossing seed all over his yard despite literally everyone on the street telling him it's awfulSadly we aren't near enough an agriculture zoned area for it to be illegal
>>2957446I can’t do shit since it’s frozen, but after some research I’m planning on replacing my fucked brown patch of weeds with microclover in the spring. Tolerates weird moisture levels and doesn’t get taller than a few inches no matter what.
>>2959816That'll look nice once its done. Poat pic of the area
>>2959816this looks very pretty but isn't clover or is it?
Allseed and Bluegrass battling it out over who gets to take over my entire lawn
>>2959993Too paranoid but it’s just a 30’x50’ fenced yard with a deck.>>2960089It is. It flowers white very briefly. The rest of the time it looks like this
>>2960278Poast it
>>2957455Man I tell ya what, dang ol’ standin’ out there lookin’ at that lawn, man, talkin’ ’bout St. Augustine this, Buffalo that, man, turns out it’s the dang same dadgum grass, man. Been sittin’ here arguin’ with myself like, ‘Boomhauer, why that grass lookin’ the same dang ol’ shape, man?’ Whole time I’m out here buyin’ two bags o’ the same dang thing, man, like some kinda grass-dupin’ conspiracy, I tell ya what. Dang ol’ marketing, man, slap a new name on it, folks think they got a whole new species, man. I’m out here feelin’ like I just solved the Da Vinci Code of lawns, man.
>>2961036We wanted to put Zoysia in but the area doesnt get enough sun light
>>2957446Why is the bird bath dead center in that tiny patch of lawn you got? Why isn't over to the side, like where that bucket is? Also, why is it blue and not something natural looking?
>>2961491The reason its dead center is because on the weekends we move the birdbath out of the way and put a little firepit there if we have people over. The reason its blue rather than natural is because we only got the place about a year ago and the previous owners left it behind so we decided to use it, I agree something more natural would be a lot nicer and perhaps something we'll look at changing in the future
Freshly mowed
>>2957446Dang, that's pretty. When should I seed my lawn? Or when should I lay down sod? My backyard is an absolute mess. I have a long rectangle of dead and thatched grass/dirt that puffed up more than an inch above the concrete around it and a big square of silty dusty dirt.I have no idea what I should do.
>>2958038I like this
>>2963106You have to dig it all out to around 100mm below concrete level, then put 60mm of nice sandy loam in, then roll out your turf which will be roughly 40mm thick
>>2963150Hmm, yes. Thank you.
>>2961491Couple of little sparrows wnjoying the birb bath
So I'm the guy with the shitty pine lawn, my parents have gotten my 3yo son a ride on tractor toy so now I actually need to level the yard a bit. Pine has roots all over and wife doesn't want to cut it. Do I just bite the bullet and get a dump truck full of soil then spread it out with a shovel for the next two months until it's smooth?
>>2963813If you can build up the area then thats probably the best option, although I dont know how well grass will grow under a pine
>>2963827I've mostly been intentionally throwing clover seed out and letting dandelions grow simply to try and snuff out the neighbors morning glory. I don't care too much about the ground cover beyond it not killing everything else in the yard (like the fucking morning glory).
>>2957446Are those canalillies on the right?
You guys have any tips for keeping a dog off your property?
>>2964432They sure are! They've grown a bit since that photo
>>2964441A fence, and talking to the owner/calling animal control and saying it lunged at you if the owner refuses to act and your fence doesn't work.
Looking good for Christmas

When this thread was originally posted I had no reason to engage. But in the months since, I've bought a house and now need to grow a lawn in my backyard. It's puny, only 40x15, but it's just crap mud and a tiny 3x3 landing by the screen door.Is planting a lawn really as simple as till > aerate > plant > wait?Do I need to level the surface before planting? It's pretty uneven right now and there's deep channels from rainwater runoff (only the front of the house has gutters).also, it's been raining a lot so the backyard is all mud. Do I need to wait for it to dry before starting the process? or should I dig up the top layer of mud to get to regular dirt?
>>2968515a/s/l?
>>2968515Post a pic of the area
>>2968515Dig it out and put some sandy loam in there
>>2968515>need to grow a lawnBut why? I had a lawn but I am gradually replacing it with fruit trees and bushes. Cherry blossoming during early spring is beautiful and with some planning you can have more fruit tree blossoms throughout spring.
>>2968953>goes to /lawn general/>bUt WhY dO yOu EvEn WaNt LaWn???
Found a before pic of what the grassed area looked like when we got the place
>>2968953I can have both a lawn and trees/bushes you know, I don't want a patch of mud that's impossible to do anything on. also are you one of those redditors who doesn't realize lawns have a function beyond aesthetics?
>>2969100Grass is for gays to touch
Been 40°c+ for the past 5 days but the lawn is looking amazing. Gave it a big drink the day before the hot weather started and the every second day since. The temperature drops tomorrow so will give it a mow then.
>>2968515>I've bought a house and now need to grow a lawn in my backyardAbout once in 3 weeks. 4 inches. Sandy Loam is your friend. Clippings are the best fertilizer.
>>2969875>lawn so small you could cut it with a pair of scissors.
>>2969919Ive just started not catching the clippings and let them fall on the grass while im mowing, been working well so far.>>2969920Its the perfect size for our backyard, we walk around on it in the evening barefoot and it feels great
>>2969875So the cool change came and after a mow she's looking a million bucks
Bump
>>2969919>clippings are your bestdepends on the area. same species clippings can encourage mold and bacteria that specialize to the plant. you're normally better separating the plant from itself and using composted materials.
>>2970304Composting materials like what?
>>2970149I would love to bump with my own lawn posts but there's still snow everywhere.
>>2970423Post snow
>>2970527:(
>>2970628:)
>>2972241Just gave it a mow and got the sprinklers on. She's looking nice and green!
My neighbor has planted some sort of bulb-based alien terraforming weapon all along his back fence, which is now aggressively invading my yard. It heaved up almost 6 inches and the bulbs go down nearly 2 feet. Do I need to excavate a 3 foot trench along my fence and put down fucking sheet metal to keep it out? Also he leaves dead chickens out for skunks. I don't mind the skunks, they're friendly with me and spray the dogs in the next house over who are both endlessly barking retards. But they do make a mess of things sometimes.
>>2973590Yeah youre going to have to pour a concrete footing like 3 foot deep oalong the fence line
