Noob here that needs help identifying the polarity of this capacitor. It's a replacement part for my dryer. pls sars i need de needful
>>2959332It don't matta. Nunna dis mattas.
>>2959332this is non-polarized capacitor, so it doesn't matter how you wire itI'm assuming it's wired on a AC circuit, so plus and minus constantly switch anyway
More often than not the wires will be the same color. Obviously meaning polarity is a nonissue Since you’re a newb I’d suggest not fucking with capacitors Thank me later….
>>2959332Safety CapacitorX1/Y2 capacitors are safety-certified components designed for use in applications where electrical shock or fire hazards must be mitigated. They are suitable for both "line-to-line" (X rating) and "line-to-ground" (Y rating) applications. This dual rating makes them versatile for filtering interference and protecting electronic equipment. Key characteristics of X1/Y2 capacitors:Safety Standards: They are certified to meet international safety standards such as IEC60384-14 and UL60950-1. Failure Mode: Unlike standard capacitors, X1/Y2 capacitors are designed to fail in an open state when subjected to a power surge, preventing short circuits that could lead to fires or shocks. Applications: Commonly used in power supplies, LED lighting, telecommunication equipment, and for lightning and surge protection. Dual Rating: The "X1" rating indicates a higher impulse voltage tolerance for line-to-line applications, while the "Y2" rating is for line-to-ground applications. A Y-rated capacitor can often be used in place of an X-rated one if its voltage rating is sufficient. Many YouTube videos and web info on safety capacitors.
>>2959337>>2959339>>2959360not OP but are there polarized capacitors as well?
it's never straightforward with electronics, the more i learn...FUCKI WISH I HADN'T DROPPED OUT OF HIGHSCHOOLAAAAAAAAAAHI WANNA LIVE IN SHENZHEN AND WORK ON COOL PROJECTS
>>2959380Yes they will be marked
>>2959380yeah, like the other anon said, they would be marked with + abd -also, in dchematics, they should be marked as -)|- and non polarised will be -||- as on OPs photo
Thanks for the replies brethrenWill takle the install later on, hope i dont blow the 90 bucks i spent on the capacitor. Kek had to cut an access panel into the side
>>2959853this picture is so brown coded its unreal
>>2959853>hope i dont blow the 90 bucks i spent on the capacitorThat's a shame because it's only worth like $10-15. Try to find another supplier.>>2960017>this picture is so brown coded its unrealHe moved shit around because there's a large appliance that's disassembled in a small room. Also, the OP pic shows his hand.>Ricola on the shelflol
>>2959853>Kek had to cut an access panel into the sideNo, you didn't "have" to cut an access panel...
>had to cut an access panel into the side> the 90 bucks i spent on the capacitorI'm glad you didn't die, anon, bless your heart
>>2959853>the 90 bucks i spent on the capacitor.U fuckin wat m8?That's a $3 part>>2960048>I'm glad you didn't die, anon, bless your [little] heartThis kek
>>2959380It's what you find in most electronics after the trafo. Any old laptop, radio, the areas relevant for calculating and diaplaying stuff in washing machines and microwaves, and handheld game controllers are full of them. Those are the ones with the famous line on their side, picrel. Negative goes to minus side or "it go boom".
>>2959853>90 bucks for a capacitor>cut a hole on the side of the microwaveat that point i hope you don't discarge that cap safely and it kills you, because you are a too big of a moron to be left alive
still didn't get around to assemble it fug>>2960046had to. the 3 side walls are one piece of bent sheet metal. no way of accessing it>>2960048thx fren>>2960126>>the 90 bucks i spent on the capacitor.>U fuckin wat m8?>That's a $3 partnot exactly sure anymore if it was 90 or 70. but point being i couldnt source an aftermarket piece and used ones were almost the price of OEM after shipping and taxes so i got it directly from miele>>2960495its a dryer. and i will just 3d print a cap for it
>>2960017>Pb swissOp is either a kraut or swiss.
>>2963228>no way of accessing itUsually you have to take it all apart, remove the top and then the sides which have weird latches but once you understand them it's pretty easy>not exactly sure anymore if it was 90 or 70. but point being i couldnt source an aftermarket piece and used ones were almost the price of OEM after shipping and taxes so i got it directly from mieleThat capacitor in the op is just a mains filter and is not really needed, i've removed it around 10 years ago (when it exploeded) from my 1994 Miele dishwasher with no issueThe other capacitors can be easily replaced with standard motor capacitors found in any electrics material store (rating doesn't need to be exactly the same)
>>2963331>standard motor capacitorsOh yeah, those are around 4 to 12 euros
>>2963228next time ask in ohn, they will point you to an equivalent way cheaper capits just a cap, not something that you need the original brand
>>2964262/ohm/
>>2959332Uhhh... if you cant figure that out on your own, and you dont have access to a multimeter, you probably shouldnt be fucking around with it anyway. Call a repairman before you shock yourself fucking around with mains voltage. AC in north america can kill you and AC in europe WILL kill you if you make a mistake.
>>2959332it's AC nigga
