who hammering
>>2959812I miss mallet man.
>>2959812Nice collection you poofter.
>>2959812>hand hammers plebshit
>>2960501>poofterGoes without saying since OP looks to be Australian.
>>2960522Was it the kango brand or the dildo that gave it away?
>>2960501You may have 10 hammers but it looks like you fished them off the bottom of a fucking lakeTake better care of your tools, clean things before it's too late
>>2960541>No, how do you dare using your tools rather than just collecting them like us on redditBruv
>>2960511Post a picture of a hammer that actually belongs to you.
>>29605418/10 of those hammers are actually used regularly or were at some stage of their lives, those are what used tools look like bud.Since you asked politely here is the description of each hammer from left to right>Estwing brick hammerstarted construction in the masonry and concrete trade. This hammer got used every day, mostly for laying block. Still gets used maybe once or twice a year when I pick up block jobs.>Vaughan brick hammerGot this one at a garage sale and have never used it. Balance feels a bit off.>Estwing 20oz straight claw smooth faceMy finish hammer. Used for installing trim, siding, doors, etc. It's a great hammer when you don't actually have to hammer any nails. I bought this one used off ebay because it has the old school estwing logo.>Estwing 22oz straight claw milled faceI got this at a garage sale. Has an awful ring and I can't stand to use it desu.>Estwing 22oz straight claw smooth faceHad this hammer forever. I used it for concrete when I was more on the masonry side of things. Keep it in the truck now for things like demoing plaster, drywall, lending to the new guy, etc>Vaughan 19oz cali framerI got this hammer when I switched over to framing. It's okay but never really liked it that much>Hart 25oz framerThis is a cool old vintage hammer that spent it's entire life hung up in someone's shed and has probably never been used. It's heavy as hell and I can't imagine swinging it all day but that's what old school framers did and probably why they got fucked up elbows and shoulders. Surprisingly the second most valuable hammer in my collection>Martinez m1My workhorse for framing and concrete. Love this hammer. My wife got it for me when I turned 30. Worth a small fortune. Would buy another one if I lost it.>Estwing mallet (white)Good for stone flatwork. Old boss gave it to me>Estwing mini sledgeUsed regularly. Moving walls while framing, driving stakes, etc.
>>2960546eat shit jealous faggot
>>2959812Im in.
>>2960546>Post a picture of a hammer that actually belongs to you.Lol. That's obviously the forklift guy with the giant grinder. He's legit. I have a 50lb little giant myself... Pic rel is from where I picked it up. Got it, a hydraulic press, two lathes, a shaper, camelback drill press, post drill press, and a bunch of other random stuff from there. They (sister in law) just wanted me to take it to get it out of their hair, but I gave them a thousand bucks because they needed the money.
>>2960544I don't go to reddit ya faggot, but I have steel brush attachments for my drill and bench grinder and none of my tools are rusty or disgusting looking, because I'm not a lazy fuck. I actually respect my tools like my father taught me.>>2960548You never even bothered to take the stickers and glue residue off man, don't act like that's just how things have to be. Nice rundown though.
>>2960550Now post a pic of a hammer that belongs to you.
>>2960588It's not how things have to be but if i spent my free time cleaning up my tools i would have no time for anything else in my life. I also like the patina that well-used tools get. To each their own.
>>2959812Yup
I love these motherfuckers like you wouldn't believe... Left one just got the handle re-welded and fresh paint because it cracked after a million blows against the anvil straightening steel out. Used to be a fiberglass handle but I wore that one out... Right one was a ball-pein I found on the side of the road with an extra shitty wooden handle. Fixed er up with a nice pipe handle and I use it constantly. These two reside outside my shop by the anvil and are my every-day hammers for every shitty task you can imagine.
I'm getting quite the collection of brass and copper hammers too. I have one or two more like this that I need to make new inserts for and then a few solid copper and brass hammers as well.
>>2960653now here's a well cared for ole hammer
>>2960548why does everyone seem to like these titanium hammers? When I swing one I want to throw up, and they clearly vibrate more than wood. I'm of the mind that the only hammer suitable for a white man is wood handled hammer.
>>2960653I've got a brass sledge I inherited from my grandpa who used to work for CNW railroad, but it's got a nice patina and sentimental value so I never use it, but I made one out of a shit ton of old brass and lead lost wax cast from a mold of the same hammer. Thing weighs like 14lbs and I use it damn near every day fixing medium and heavy duty trucks. I'd get a picture but it's in my box at work and I'm too drunk to drive and get a pic. Maybe monday if I remember.
>>2959823that was almost 3 years ago lol
>>2960817>why does everyone seem to like these titanium hammers?Because they're light, durable as fuck yet surprisingly hit just as hard as a 21oz hammer. It's not rocket science. Maybe you just don't do much rough carpentry and if so I can understand why you would not understand it.
>>2960829Nice. Hell yeah post a pic up, I'd like to see it.
>>2960925Im a framer you nigger. Whats heavier, wood or titanium, you dumb nigger. If I have more mass closer to the point of impact, which hammer hits harder, dumb nigger. I can also rehandle my hammer about 30 times before it equals the cost of your faggot techy shit. Also I look like a white man with a wooden handled hammer hanging off my belt and not like some shit for brains consumerist cocksucker. If you used your tiny brain for a second you'd figure out that titanium hammers are all marketing and 90% of the people who buy them are stupid faggots. The only people that should be swinging them are maybe concrete guys, but even then I still think theres still a good reason to swing a wood handled hammer.
>>2961056Oh yeah and I've seen about 3 stiletto titanium hammers break all in the same spot during regular use. Right after one of them broke I was able to easily complete said task with my wood handled hammer LOL Martinez can suck my cock too though they dont look nearly as chinky
Some more hammers. A chinkshit brass hammer, chinkshit ball-pein, an old estwing stacked leather rock hammer that I had to re-do the handle on because it was absolutely cooked (I'll see if I can find a before pic) and a couple of old Stanley claw hammers, one of which got re-handled with a chunk of sledge hammer handle that busted off...
>>2961099Here's a before pic of the rock/chipping hammer from the auction I bought it at. Gave $5 for all of these. Fixed up the rock hammer handle and the stacked leather claw hammer handle. Re-handled the stanley claw hammer, Cleaned up the hatchet and put it in the sell pile. And pulled the rubber inserts out of that mallet and cleaned it up, sanded, burned, and oiled the handle, and glued and wrapped it with wire to fix the split. It's awaiting some brass and copper inserts now whenever I get some time to make them.
I bought one of these combi hammers. Made by halder, tekton started rebranding them very recently. Just arrived, haven't had the chance to use it yet but great expectations. >why didn't you just buy it from halder?Tekton store credit + they'll replace the nylon insert for free when I wear it out.
>>2961056Your socio-economic status is clear from your post.
>>2961099they're cool but the deliberate burn marks are cringe and stupid, burning just accelerates the rate the wood degrades and eventually cracks and splinters. Blackening should only be done with the dirt and grease that gets on the tools normally.
>>2961056Kek. Seething
>>2961100Nice, I like those estwing geological hammers a lot. My old boss used one for stone masonry and the pick was worn down to about half the size.
>>2961132I hate light colored handles on hammers... The finish gets removed either by sanding or burning and the handle gets darkened and oiled. Shrimple as. If you don't like it I couldn't give any less of a fuck because they're my hammers not yours. Also whether you like it or not a hot hammer handle will soak in oil like crazy.
Anyone around Massachusetts need a 100lb power hammer for cheap? Too far away for me. https://www.govdeals.com/en/asset/341/20518
>>2960588>I actually respect my tools like my father taught mePost tools.
>>2960640That's a deadblow.You are deadblowing.
>>2960501But where is the hammer for floors? I guess if you're a large pet owner you could get away with using any one of those because your floors will never look good anyway. >>2960541>Taking care of a hammerOkay Wranglestar, what systematical steps I must take to properly maintain a tool that wouldn't break even if you took a hammer to it?>>2961056>>2961058I like how you keep talking up the wood like it's what's held up your hammer over titanium and not the drop forged steel on it.
I've used this guy so much that the face is rounded over and about half an inch of claw has worn off.
not my pic but I have one of these
>>2962354i purposely didnt bump this earlier because im not a fan of auctions being posted for the sake of the bidders. i like auction deals myself so the less publicity they get the better. but im not trying to moralfag. its a free imageboard >sold for $16xx + buyers theftthat was a smoking deal for anybody after one. probably will be flipped back when bladesmithing was in a revival in the 90s it was always mentioned that if you got a hammer over 50lbs youd best tell your neighbors because the plates were going to rattle in their cupboards
>>2963435>that was a smoking deal for anybody after one. probably will be flippedI hope not. I posted it trying to get a legit buyer to see it and buy it from the source rather than some machine flipper. But yeah chances are high it's gonna get flipped.
>>2962380my shit's so clean you'd probably think it was new. unlike this other guy, I actually wipe my hammer off when I drop it in concrete.
hammer face can't hide its age though. I swear you autists act like you're allergic to using a wet rag once in a while.
>>2963539You can use fiber-reinforced Dremel cutting disks to restore the serrations with little effort
>>2963539When you work 85 hours a day doing CONCRETE like a real man you don't have TIME to wash your hammer with a little BITCH rag
>>2963618>85 hours a dayYou just keep talking out of your ass, your opinions are irrelevant.
>>2963620soft hands
>>2963620Only a LIBERAL would carry a rag to wipe their hammer clean after work. A real red blooded MAN knows no such faggotry, you biden voting SUBHUMAN.
>>2963551I definitely do not have a steady enough hand for that, it felt like I was trying to be a jeweler.>>2963794I don't carry a rag, I clean my shit up after work when I'm sitting on the couch drinking beer like I am right now. If you're so damn busy you really shouldn't be posting on 4chan when you're supposed to be working.
Made this shit in a class a few weeks ago. Waiting for heat treat before I can put the handle on and use it though, was supposed to do it this week but instructor's mom died and he went on leave so I have to wait for next term.
>>2963794Also I'm not a liberal, I'm extremely conservative, and I don't even vote outside of local elections, you presumptuous ass. Stay mad, no one cares.
>>2963808That's fucking awesome, man. Making your own tools is next level badassery. What class(es) are you taking?
>>2963811Just finished welding 1, manual machining 1, and CAD 1. I'm working toward a 2-year machining degree and will be doing machining 2, blueprint reading, plasma cutting, and 3d printing in the winter term, and then I think I'll be into CNC machining in the spring.
>>2963794+1
>>2963822That sounds like a hell of a lot of fun. I hope you get your degree, bro. What are your goals in life? How do you want to utilize your skill set?

>>2963834I would almost guarantee there’s already a Dirty Jobs episode on it.
>>2963825Thanks. I'm working on a career change, used to wrench on race/track cars for a living but my body's wrecked now that I'm pushing 40 and there's no real advancement opportunity from where I am, what I'm really hoping I can do is be a CNC machine tech working for one of the manufacturers/distributors since that's great money, combines my skillsets, and I don't mind travel, but I'm also alright with the idea of just being a machinist and eventually having my own shop.
Here's some more hammers... Need to make copper and brass inserts for the two on the left on the bench. Three other copper hammers, a couple of lead hammers and another brass hammer on the bench. Bunch of ball pein and other random hammers in the drawer...
