Why didn't/haven't rear handle circular saws catch on outside of North America?

This isn't to argue that they're better or worse, but clearly, a lot of carpenters in North America see advantages, but they're virtually unknown outside of it. Why?
>>
>>2960672
They're pussies
>>
>>2960672
They're not useless, but rear handle saws is an American thing and tradition plays a huge part in all trades, there are differences from region to region kn each country. Using wood as the main material isnt that popular either so the need for a saw dedicated to cutting 2x4 and up didn't see a huge need. Also sellers hasn't really shown then I shops.
>>
>>2960672
Rear handle saws are more expensive than a regular saw but they make framing a lot quicker. In most parts of the world 'production framing' is not a thing so they have never caught on.

Also one thing that rear handle saws do 10 times better than a regular saw is cut plywood and in most of the world plywood is used way less than in NA because it's expensive. Like for example in California engineers always spec the use of 1/2" plywood on sheer walls with a specific nailing schedule and even though it isn't actually required builders/framers will just end up using plywood to brace every exterior wall because the alternative is using furing strips to make the sheer walls plane out with the non-sheer walls. In Australia most of the time they used metal straps to brace walls and if plywood is required to brace walls they will only put it on the specific section that is required and then fur out the rest of the house to match that which is time consuming and expensive but still cheaper than using ply everywhere.
>>
>>2960672
they are everywhere in the nordicd, its seen as one of the essential tools. with a saw and a drill you can build a house.
>>
Sidewinders aren't that much lighter but the weight is much more balanced, the shoe is wider, and you can use two hands while cutting. That is to say, its a very beginner friendly saw.

The only things a sidewinder is definitively better at is cutting subfloor/sheathing when you're standing on it, and making small rips of plywood, cause u can pinch the shoe.

When you're a big strong white man and you need to get things done then a rear handled saw is better. If you know what you're doing you wont have to pull out your square, chalk line, or tape half as often with this saw.
>>
>>2960672
we build houses out of bricks, not sticks.
>>
>>2960672
Where I am we use circular saws a lot less in general because we don’t do stick framing as much and if we do most bring a mitre saw and table saw to the site. The trades that do use circular saws usually get a ā€˜normal’ one because theyre smaller and can be used with one hand more easily
>>
>>2960983
where are you? if you can't easily use a rear handle saw with one hand you're probably an actual faggot to be honest
>>
>>2960672
we don build wid wood here in kenya
>>
It’s called a worm drive saw you fucking posers
Unless you’re the cut man on a framing crew there is no reason to need a wd. Idiots
>>
>>2961315
Why does the cut man on a framing crew need a worm drive?
>>
>>2961315
Oh cool, are you the same guy who thinks you should only use your tape measure once during the whole framing process?
>>
>>2961600
Better torque. Easier to control for a right hander. Better balance. The base and bevel work smoother. When you get very good with the tool, there are reasons. Four people yelling at you for oddball cuts right away is one thing. Making difficult detail cuts somewhere else is another.

If you're going to spend 10 hours on the tool, get the $20 sidewinder. If 1000 or more, shop around.
>>
>>2961834
Another poser…talking shit
You use a worm drive because it’s built to handle sawing lumber all day, year after year. Your little 7 1/4ā€ skilsaw will shoot craps in a month…thank me later

lol at the guy screaming about wormdrives being "all u need" or whatever. rough carpenters do mediocre work and i won't let them do my framing for my work. when we are on the job at the same time and they're fiddlefucking around i'll occasionally jump in and get whatever bullshit they're doing done for them in no time.

people who are good use a track saw, miter saw, table saw and jig saw. people who can't graduate use a circular saw all their lives.

They can't put the right nails in a hanger, what are the odds they can plumb a wall or crown a stud? Laborers with nail guns.

i'm autistic so i get one size bigger than necessary with my dimensional lumber and track saw both sides straight after they climatize :P

The smartest framers end up as GCs building custom houses. You sound like you just don't know how much work goes into building a custom house and that's okay because you're a trim carpenter.

Skilsaw is a brand name. Skilsaw 77s are worm and they filed circsaw patent in 1928.

Worm has more torque and prevents backdriving.

Most of the competition uses beveled hypoidal gears. They're also common in vehicle differentials.

Learn to read. $50/foot. Give or take 50 feet a day. I pay my helper 200/day. You do the math.
>>
>>2962291
>he's proud of paying his beaner helper slave wages

Just stop dude. Also 50 feet of what a day? How do you even calculate that when you're building those fancy built-ins? Stop lying.
>>
>>2962398
do you not understand the concept of lineal footage?
>complete 18 foot section of beam
>complete 8 foot section of beam
>complete 8 foot section of beam
>complete 8 foot section of beam
>complete 8 foot section of beam
>18+8+8+8+8=50
>(50$/ft)x(50ft)=$2,500
i used to worry about competition from other people but you and your peers are fucking retarded. anyway, doing a room with 50 feet of beams usually is a three day process even if the beams are one day. day one is skirt board (the shit the beams die into on the walls) and doing the sides of the main beam and installing the support and box for the light that is inevitably hung from the central beam, that's about 75 feet of skirt board and that would be $750+$100 for the light support. Second day is the beams which is a $2,500 day. Third day is crown which is going to be 175 feet (beam footagex2+perimeter of room) which will be $1,750. That's $5,100 for 3 days of work. The rooms I am doing now also get V-Joint t&g so that's going to be (16*18)x(12/5)x5=$3,456 which should take 2 days. (area of ceiling, boards are 5 inches wide so to get lineal feet of material you multiply by twelve and then divide by five to go from sqft to lineal feet, then multiply by 5 dollars per lineal foot to get price).

there i just taught you how to estimate and how to determine how much you are making on each aspect of the project so when you go day by day you can make sure you are not fucking yourself. for those who can't do math, that's $1,711.20/day which is ~$1,500/day after paying my helper, which is my goal. that's pretty ideal in terms of conditions though, when you do custom work the customer can come in and fuck everything up like changing from paint grade to stain grade and now you have to work backwards and try to make it up by saying the stain grade is more expensive which it will be anyway.

you think i give a fuck you dumb trim nigger? i made $20k just watching my dirtwork subs dig a pit today

>dirtwork costs $10k
>my percentage on my subs is 200%
>easy $20k in my pocket
>complain to homeowner about how the price of all my subs has skyrocketed over the last few years while i text my plug to bring over the bags at 5pm precisely

THAT's how you make money, read and learn fuckboy, maybe one day you'll stop making peanuts on your cute little box beams

for anyone who isn't fucking retarded who is reading this thread, the normal amount to charge for subs is 20%. so if you bring subs to a jobsite and execute a contract and they charge $10k you get $2k and you should be managing them and running your jobsite to justify the money you are making. this guy is a retard larper.
