Why didn't/haven't rear handle circular saws catch on outside of North America? This isn't to argue that they're better or worse, but clearly, a lot of carpenters in North America see advantages, but they're virtually unknown outside of it. Why?

Using wood as the main material isnt that popular either so the need for a saw dedicated to cutting 2x4 and up didn't see a huge need. Also sellers hasn't really shown then I shops.
>>2960672Rear handle saws are more expensive than a regular saw but they make framing a lot quicker. In most parts of the world 'production framing' is not a thing so they have never caught on. Also one thing that rear handle saws do 10 times better than a regular saw is cut plywood and in most of the world plywood is used way less than in NA because it's expensive. Like for example in California engineers always spec the use of 1/2" plywood on sheer walls with a specific nailing schedule and even though it isn't actually required builders/framers will just end up using plywood to brace every exterior wall because the alternative is using furing strips to make the sheer walls plane out with the non-sheer walls. In Australia most of the time they used metal straps to brace walls and if plywood is required to brace walls they will only put it on the specific section that is required and then fur out the rest of the house to match that which is time consuming and expensive but still cheaper than using ply everywhere.

Sidewinders aren't that much lighter but the weight is much more balanced, the shoe is wider, and you can use two hands while cutting. That is to say, its a very beginner friendly saw. The only things a sidewinder is definitively better at is cutting subfloor/sheathing when you're standing on it, and making small rips of plywood, cause u can pinch the shoe.When you're a big strong white man and you need to get things done then a rear handled saw is better. If you know what you're doing you wont have to pull out your square, chalk line, or tape half as often with this saw.

Second day is the beams which is a $2,500 day. Third day is crown which is going to be 175 feet (beam footagex2+perimeter of room) which will be $1,750. That's $5,100 for 3 days of work. The rooms I am doing now also get V-Joint t&g so that's going to be (16*18)x(12/5)x5=$3,456 which should take 2 days. (area of ceiling, boards are 5 inches wide so to get lineal feet of material you multiply by twelve and then divide by five to go from sqft to lineal feet, then multiply by 5 dollars per lineal foot to get price).there i just taught you how to estimate and how to determine how much you are making on each aspect of the project so when you go day by day you can make sure you are not fucking yourself. for those who can't do math, that's $1,711.20/day which is ~$1,500/day after paying my helper, which is my goal. that's pretty ideal in terms of conditions though, when you do custom work the customer can come in and fuck everything up like changing from paint grade to stain grade and now you have to work backwards and try to make it up by saying the stain grade is more expensive which it will be anyway.
