I bought a couple of cels and a background at a collectibles mall in Tokyo.I understand these things were used in production and not designed to last/be lightfast. Basically have any sort of Archival properties.I also understand you can frame them normally as you would a normal painting as the material is cellulose and degrades into acid.Anyone here have some DIY experience with preserving and displaying these things? I really don't want to just horde them in a dark box.
>>2961705Also I wanted to add there are specialty frame makers for cels. But they are giga kike levels of expensive. I also live in Japan so the cost to import is high and theres good diy hardware stores here already.Examplehttps://celoasis.com/index.php/product-category/frame-kits/
>>2961705I'd look into film archiving if I were you. From what I know (and (you) have mentioned), it seems cellulose acetate autocatialiticaly degrades into vinegar, I've heard that keeping it away from light heat and moisture is good at delaying it.So keep them in an air tight, light tight box in your freezer. Also to prevent warping keep them upright. If they start to smell like vinegar then they are going to degrade and there's nothing you can do.
