explain Septic System to me like I'm a bitch.Shouldn't there be an "Oh fuck" overflow outlet, like before even the first tank, so it can never back up into the house? I've heard of Septics overflowing into house. Is that illegal because your System has to work so you don't spread shit, so having it "sealed" is the way you are forced to have a valid system?I'm thinking if I got a place out in the sticks I'd want to add an RV hook up out from under the house, and I guess I could also add an extra Y so I could connect a hose which could lead to an emergency over-flow gravity fed line.WTF happens if your System is OK, but suddenly under fairly sustained excessive use? Will it most likely drain OK, but "water" not treated and live turd germs into Leach Field, and how bad is that and do people get in trouble for it? Does it start showing up in your neighbors well water and you get sued and a shitty rep?Seems like any well designed system would include that, and into a normally dry pond or covered hole or French Drain or something.I also saw diagram of a "solid state" dosing system that somehow worked without any pumps. IIRC it had a float and valve on a hinge on an angled arm so the valve would stay closed until "water" level well above it, then would open and drop level to well below float level. Seems simple and fool proof. WTF with pump systems. Seems like opening a big valve would be better than some little pump (that will be not just going on fritz but in the shit).
>>2963664Flush goes in shit floats or sinks and later floats. Excess water goes to second tank and is distributed through ground fingers this is called the septic field and will have the greenest thickest growth. The floating shit has to be pumped every 5 years or so depending on how much you shit.
>>2963668Maybe the shit sinks eventually I forget. Point being you can't really overload a properly designed system because you can't shit five years of shit into it. It can get clogged but you have the same issue with sewer systems. Don't flush condoms or menstrual products and you'll be fine.
>>2963668they say lush green over leach field is sign its fucked and not correctly draining into water table.Seems like it should be much deeper, and covered with root killing gravel like that blue shit, to prevent....roots from clogging it. If roots will go after barely leaking normal sewer pipes, WTF don't they clog up leach pipes, especially in regions were water is scarce, and given Septic "Water" is full of good stuff for plants, such as fermented feces?
>>2963677ps-AI OverviewLeach Field 101: The Ultimate Guide to Understanding and ...A leach field is typically buried between 12 and 36 inches deep, though the average is between 18 and 36 inches.
>>2963664>your System has to work so you don't spread shitYes. Otherwise country folk would just drain their wastewater onto the ground or into a creek.
>>2963664>explain Septic System to me like I'm a bitch.NO! now get back in the kitchen!
>>2963664>explain Septic System to me like I'm a bitch.first understand the concept - Its a simple waste treatment and disposal unit to protect the environment from human contamination. Its only inteded for certain wastes. The liquid wastes that flows into the soil is supposed to be a sufficient distance above groundwater so the natural microbes in the soil act on the wastewater to help neutralize it so it does not contaminate the groundwater, which many people also use for drinking (groundwater well). The 'solids' in the tank are supposed to be degraded over time and they break down are flushed out into the drain field where they continue degredation. Its important to have the proper microbes working. If yo dispose of chemicals that kill the microbes you stop the treatment process, and solids or other chemicals that are not inteded to be disposed of that way can clog the system. There should have been a leach test to properly determine the size of the drain field to spread out the wastewater to ensure it slow migrates downward and does not just dump into the groundwater so the microbes have time to act on it.

>>2963677>draining into water tableDo you really want that??
>>2963751>Do you really want that??All the water on earth has been shit out of one butthole at some point in time. Think about that for a second...

>>2963677>lush green over leach field is sign its fucked and not correctly draining into water table.I've heard that and I've also heard it's a good sign. I've lived in two places with septic, both functioning fine, and on both you could clearly tell where the leech field was from the grass because it grew so nicely. However, I don't water the rest of my yard so when it's dry the leech field has the only green grass, and in the rainy season the only real difference is the type of grass that dominates the two areas. A lot of the septic water is also lost to evaporation, so not all of it goes down. That's part of the reason you can't put something over the leech field, in addition to soil compaction.
>>2963757I know that. Nevertheless, there is often destilaltion involved making clean rainwater that maintains the water table with clean water.
>>2963670>Point being you can't really overload a properly designed system>>2963739>leach test to properly determine the size of the drain field to spread out the wastewater to ensure it slow migrates downward and does not just dump into the groundwater so the microbes have time to act on it.So I'm thinking the farther apart the Leach is from the nearest Well the more you can "over-load" the system like if you gotta lotta guests for a couple weeks.Butt(pardon pun) WTF happens when a 'hood of Hicks of double-wide trailers on 1/2 acre plots with wells all get packed with 3x as many Hicks (or "migrants") as Septic was specced for "number of bedrooms"?Does everyone start getting sick and County Health issues a "Boil Water" notice, till further notice, but how does that typically sort out? Got any "case studies"? Does County Health issue Orders about "Get a new approved Septic (for about $30K) or else", and does "or else" mean Red Tagging the trailers?Does this show up in News anywhere and WTF is process even called?
>>2963812>Hicks (or "migrants")They refuse to comply. >They brandish guns.Resolved by sheriff.>They don't brandish.Resolved by lawsuit against the property owner.
>>2963812>farther apart the Leach is from the nearest WellIt depends. First the spetic system should be sized correctly. Second you need to know the details of your water well. If it is screened deep enough and far enough away and the transmissivity high enough it will not be an issue. The potential issue is the well is screened across the aquifer and is too close and you dump too much waste and pull too much water you can pull the contaminated water into your well. When you pump the well you change gradient aroud the well and the more you pump the more you change the gradient. So more people than usual = more water pumping and more pissing, showers, dishwasing and washing macine use = more waste water. I worked at a place and this kind lady called saying her family was on a well for a long time, but for some reason it dried up....only about a week after the county connected their home to the public sewer system. Hmmmmmmm
>>2963887>The potential issue is the well is screened across the aquifersorry I meant to write "...screened across the water table..."
>>2963887>but for some reason it dried up....only about a week after the county connected their home to the public sewer system. Hmmmmmmmdats ah goot vanI'm gonna use that as "back ground chat" in my next movie script.
>>2963887>this kind lady called saying her family was on a well for a long time, but for some reason it dried up....only about a week after the county connected their home to the public sewer system. HmmmmmmmSo the public sewer system started pulling from the well?
>>2965241No. Waste water was going into the sewer and not to the leach field and then to the well.
>>2965241>So the public sewer system started pulling from the well?fresh water pipes are pressurized so if there is a leak the fresh water leaks out. Sewer lines are not pressurized and gravity drained so if ther is a leak it wont leak or at least not leak much. Their speptic system and fresh water well was actually hydraulically connected. The pumped groundwater (shower, cooking, drinking, washing) was discharged to the sewer system and back to the groundwater and pulled back into the well. This is not what you want. If it does happen you want the residence time to be long enough such that the natural microbes in the vadose zone and groundwater digest sufficiently any harmful microbes in the water before its pulled back into the drinking water system. The likely got used to all the bacteria like poor people in locations with bad sanitary practices. Since their well drired up soon after their sewer water was taken away by the county sewer system their groundwater supply was insuffient to supply the house. Its amazing how many people have wells and never monitor them for water quality or to run an occasional pump test to confirm proper operation.
>>2965537I'm worried about all this shit (pardon pun) because I'm looking at buying cheap rural house that mostly haven't been lived in for a month or more, or even a few weeks. I'm thinking a few dormant weeks would allow many issues to self-heal, at least enough to pass a quick test of well water pump rate/water quality, and septic.I'm starting to wonder how many cheap rural houses are for sale due to major issues starting to surface that will cost $50K in a couple years, but given some rest the system still passes basic tests. Its not like trying to sue some old Hillbilly who spent all the money a year ago, and is probably semi-nomadic in an RV, would be practical.
>>2965747>I'm worried about all this shit (pardon pun)I think its worth it to investigate any water well used for drinking water or food irrigation if you are going to buy. I would ask for all the records of well drilling, construction, operation, and water quality testing (if they have good records it shows they have a brain and were paying attention and probably doing regular testing and maintenance). Its relatively inexpensive to collect water samples for a suite of analysis to be sure its safe for drinking and irrigation.
everyone is right so farthey do now sell cleanout caps that have a one way valve so if your house backs up it'll open into the yard instead of coming up your shower or whateverbut most people are oblivious and will just let their yard get covered in shit water for months before noticing so I'm not sure I'm a fani googled lightly for a picture with no luck, but I just saw them advertised at supply shops the past couple months for the first timekinda crazy it's a new idea
>>2965997getting a well water test should be standard of any investment inspection. it's free and easy
>>2963668>greenest thickest growthMore like the dryest brownest dead grassLeach field only makes it green if it's overflowing, otherwise the shallower soil doesn't hold much water and the grass roots have no reliable store of water when it gets hot
>>2963664>He doesn't have an overflow to the lowest part of the property which siphons the tank to his neighbors property once it's full. Why do you even live in America?
