Sledgehammer thread.

Has anyone used both Fiskars and Wilton sledges? How does the vibration reduction of the handles compare, are the wedge faces (whether on Fiskars or on the handful of other companies doing them) useful or a gimmick?
>>
i do the needful with the same old wood handled sledge that has been around for 20 years

Fiskar is a good brand I really love their axes, so their sledge is probably good too
>>
Well first things first you have to start calling it a bammer or a sluggo
And it also depends what your planning to hit

I don't like plastic or fiberglass handles. They don't last nearly as long as wood ones.

i have a fiskars maul and like an 8lb sledge. no complaints.
not sure what there really is to discuss about a sledge hammer. just buy one. it's a sledge hammer.
like, if you're at a point in life where spending $50 on the wrong sledge hammer is going to ruin you, you have a lot more important things to worry about than what brand of sledge hammer you buy.

>Just buy chinesium xD what are you poor

Perhaps my dude actually cares about good stuff and wants to make a good choice. Which is based
>>
I got one of the hyper tough maul/sledge combos for $8 on clearance a few months ago. I like it so far.

I like red and black better than orange and black

If you don't miss and crack them, they last fine

I've never had a fiberglass handle break. I've replaced at least 3 wood handles. YMMV

i bought this faggy thing only because it was on a deal and its dumb to use. you cant just pick it up and swing. you have to look to make sure the business end is facing the right way. fucking stupid and obviously why it was at a closeout wholesaler

>>

8 pounder with the handle cut down
>>
You want the handle short enough that you can easily start a stake but long enough that you can get a good rhythm going when swinging it hard.
