I run a kerosene shop heater, I use it sparingly, and I keep having fuel go bad every couple years. I used to be able to get it at the pump until a year ago when they remodeled the gas station and pulled out the kerosene pump. Now I have to buy the $10 a gallon

I'm thinking of going propane. I mean, propane doesn't go bad, but also can be used for different things year round. Kerosene goes bad like diesel and gas, and only used for 1 season.

Red pill me on going with a propane heater instead of keeping Kerosene

Just buy off-road diesel as you need it. It runs a little dirtier but it's $3/gallon

My heater says specifically not to use diesel. Its also an older unit, it has the Sears branding so it might not have been fine with diesel from the day.

That's just to sell you their brand of kerosene. Operating temperature and flashpoint are nearly identical

say what now? I have can of kerosene that is 30 years old and still good.

Just fired up a mulcher on 20 year old gas - doesn't mean the modern garbage is any good.

Can't speak for kerosene, or shop heaters either, but my old oil furnace would run on diesel, but it didn't like it. Ran hotter and not as well in general.

Op here, So I just put a gal of diesel in my heater and it won't light

YMMV

start adding gasoline at a few tablespoons a time and trying until it fires. best to do outside because its gonna smokebomb before it lights

And it lit before on kerosene? Recently? Some of those kerosene heaters have crumbling fuel lines after a few years. I dunno what kind of line they are using in them, but it's not fuel safe. My father in law had a Dewalt one that was maybe 3-4 years old and the fuel lines turned to friggin dust. I've always had good luck running red diesel in them.

If this is a wick heater and not a salamander, DO NOT USE DIESEL. The wick types that are meant for kerosene ONLY work with kerosene. If it's a salamander type, then >>2966218 is spot on about it being Sears-Sawbuck being kikey basterds.

They just use shitty automotive vacuum/EVAP line. You're supposed to check them out every season, but nobody ever does til they're going "PUFFPUFFBWOOSH" and shitting white smoke and gouts of fire from leaky air and fuel lines.
