all I want is a shed to do my work in. is that so much to ask?
How does one go about acquiring cheap land in the uk to build a shed on? ideally in an industrial area so no one will complain about power tool noise or hammering noise or smoke. I saw one unit for sale near me recently for 100k, didn't even have an outdoor yard, but you can get an entire house for that with a yard.

tl;dr shed designs and locations

You aren't going to find this within a few hours drive of any city.
>>
Holy fuck. I'm looking for 10 acres in Québec and I thought prices are bad. But here's roughly 1.5 acres for 370k CAD.

everywhere in the UK is within a few hours drive of a city. i saw a small parcel of land sell recently for 5k in a large town. it was in a weird suburban location though, i know the neighbours would complain.
so i will ask again: How does one find cheap land in the uk to build a shed on? and work on.

This is a pretty good analogy to US vs UK culture
In the US best shed means overhead cranes, a 7 axis cnc and indoor parking right off the I-95 with ccfl lightning, in the UK it means a fireplace, kettle, a workbench, hand tools and a sheepskin rug to sleep on
>>
>>2966735
Which one is better though?
>>

Asking that question demonstrates a profound lack of understanding, no matter the topic.

I dunno man, I'd prefer a massive shop with overhead cranes, old manual machines, not CNC, indoor parking would probably be tits. Next to the hwy can fuck right off though. Don't need a kettle, fireplace would ok at times and a pain in the ass at other times, other means of heat would be preferred. Workbench and handtools would be nice, but the sheepskin rug would have to go unless it's used primarily as a dog bed for my yellow lab...

So you tell me, which one would be better?

except for the cnc rejection. theres too many awesome things that a cnc makes a cakewalk that would be utter assache otherwise

I'd much rather the UK version. I'm not doing production work. I don't need a warehouse.

Rent some space on a farm. It used to be cheap to buy old industrial stuff - like old mine yards but not as common now, although older worked out quarries can be relatively cheap, where the permission to quarry wasn’t tied to restoration and they are just left.

OP here, you got me to a T hahahaha
merry christmas all, i am building a shed in my yard today. it;s not really big enough and won't be very comfy, but i need something.

afaic what you are describing is not a shed, it is a shop.
also, i tell you this not as an enemy though you will see it as an attack:
americans have more narcissism than anyone else. you see your way, you see what you want and you think ... that's the RIGHT way. not just YOUR way, and there's many different opinions. this is why you always say "winners" and "losers" ... what game are we playing? you make up the rules based on what you want and then call yourself the winner. peak narcissism. i don't know how to snap you out of it. maybe watch some of this guy, he is american too but he has more understanding than you.

i have a land like this but no money to build i've been stacking rocks myself with lime but no roads so it's not easy to carry lumber for roof etc
the forest trees are protected commodity even the fallen ones

fuckin chad.

wood's not that expensive, £1.50 per meter here for 2x3.
>the forest trees are protected commodity even the fallen ones
that's fuckin shit. the opposite of what you want for a woodland really.

you need beams nigga like 4x6 that they sell dimensionally or 1'x1' from a mill at least for the wall plates and they have to be maximum possible length too

Ok fine I'll throw a cnc plasma in the corner somewhere, but I probably won't use it much... I actually agree it does have it's place, If I'm making something I usually just want to make it, not sit down at a computer and design the damn thing.

>afaic what you are describing is not a shed, it is a shop.
Exactly. I already have a decently large farm shop (75'x100') and enjoy working out of it. I also have a smaller (60'x70') shop at my house and it's mainly been used for storage because I really haven't had the time to get it all wired up and finished how I want it yet. I have way too many projects though and way too much equipment to fit it all under a roof, and it'd be kick ass if it could be under cover any time it's not in use. I have a lot of my equipment parked under 3 sided hay sheds which at least keeps most of the sun and rain off, but I have a lot more that doesn't currently fit. A giant warehouse where a person could keep all the equipment and have separate sections walled off for machining, general dirty metal fab, and wood working and parts storage would be le tits, but not really economically feasible either.

Whoa there buddy. I never said one was right and one was wrong. I said my ideal shop would be a mix of the two. Giant building out in the middle of no-where with locked gate access and zero cell reception so no one could bother me. Yeah that sure seems like peak narcissism for sure... I just want to be left alone.

Put an advert up in an agricultural merchants shop or go to a farm and say to whoever you see who looks like they were there “I wonder if you can help me
I’m looking to rent some space to do
X or do you know anyone who rents space out?”
