Recently I've been seeing these "overly meticulous and pedantic" home inspectors popping up on YouTube, namely this guy and his copycats. They claim to be "exposing corruption in the housing industry" but as others have pointed out, it's all part of the marketing. What do you think?
>>2967506>it's all part of the marketing>What do you think?by and add
>>2967506It's one of those youtube rabbithole niche's. Endless content with all of the haphazzard illegal mexican jobsites.
>>2967506it's bothobviously he's hyping stuff for clicks but at the same time they have the lowest IQ illegals building everything and they really don't like it when someone documents how shitty their work is
>>2967529This. The work is just that dog shit. What like it's okay your house trusses don't have any fasteners in them? Those are just extra? We took them off to make the house go faster?
I like black inspector man. He's a lot less of a dick and points out things that builders go above and beyond on. And he's local to me.
>>2967506My father built a house recently. If you only new what type of shit the contractors pull you would kill someone. They all charge the same so you can't gauge their skill based on price.Once the deed is done you call one of these people and they tell you the concrete foundations for the house are in the wrong place , all of them. They are mandated by law for a reason, society and government in general is in total denial that has skilled labor shortage.
>>2967506have you ever worked in this industry?no shortage of greedy scum builders who cut cornersthat's owners,c-suite excecs, and managersthe workers and contractors are the sort of retards that throw cigarette butts in fresh concrete and piss in walls
Part of the problem is that people are desperate for housing and will pay for low quality so there is no incentive to spend more time or money on something that will sell anyway.
>>2967506>They claim to be "exposing corruption in the housing industry" but as others have pointed out, it's all part of the marketingwhat the fuck are you talking about?
I just remembered there's a fat white inspector I've also been seeing pop up once in awhile, who has really awkward catchphrase.>>2967616Anon makes a low-quality and racist post outside of /b/.That ain't right.
>>2967506they are much needed in the american housing business it seems. here a house has 5 years warranty, not really a need for house inspectors then since you got 5 years to figure out everything thats wrong with your house and then after 4 years 364 days you send in a mail with everything thats wrong and demand fixed and they got no choice but to do it for you for free. its a discussion to raise it to 10 years. there have been extreme cases where there has been so much wrong with the house they buildt them another one instead, and then they get another 5 year warranty period so they better get it right this time. in usa once you accept the keys all bets are off. i cant understant how anyone buys houses there?
>>2967547this is an american thing i dont get? dont hire contractors, hire a company to build your house. typicly a carpenter business here will do everything from the landscaping through foundation, framing and all the way up to roofing including most of the interior, they again hire in electricans and plumbers to to do their part since thats stuff that requires certain certifications. you however only have to deal with the company that signed a contract to deliver you a house and you know the guy who poured your basement concrete is the same guy who installed your kitchen and made your roof.
>>2967547it's kinda like car mechanics, if they see a sucker they go for it. Which fucking sucks. I recently had a problem with an old boiler furnace in my home and aside from nobody wanting to work on it and the company that did previous maintenance being acquired by private equity (and being complete retards that drained ALL my water), the guy that did show up was quoting me 25k for a full replacement. It just needed some water level adjustment in the thermal expansion tank.
>>2967506All short form content like tik tok and YouTube shorts and Instagram reels are trash made to be engaging instead of substantial and should be ignored and regarded as trash.
>>2967506Just like any youtube channel he's hyping his content but new BUILDS really are total dogshit. My in-laws just had a new build done and it had literal months of rework after they inspected it and found framing errors (gaps and missing hardware), tiles with insufficient mortar, and wiring that wasn't up to code.
>>2967646This is jusy a vocabulary thing. A contractor is a guy you.pay to do a thing thats not part of your company payroll/taxes.There's just no company that does everything in-house.
The reason it's blowing up is because the homes these guy's are inspecting are well over a million dollars and they're being built like shit by crews of illegal spics. No one would give a shit if we didn't live in a clown world where a 1200 sq ft home wasn't one million
>>2967688there is companies who does everything in and out house. it is the norm of building a house here. just a few 100 meters away from where i grew up is a factory that builds housed either in elementes or sections. my father used to work there first as a floor'er/carpenter then he got into accounting, now my brother work there as a carpenter/foreman. they as any other house builders dont use contractors, its only inhouse workers. the idea is that you who buy a house should know who have the warranty of it and construction workers and carpenters should have a steasy income. straight out contracting is actually illegal here. if you sign a contract to build a house you need to have atleast 2/3 of the workforce to do so hired directly under you.
>>2967656>the guy that did show up was quoting me 25k for a full replacement. No one wants to work on it because the cost of repairs is more work than replacing it and the customer won't be happy at the end. We only do full replacements now because we've had so many problems with trying to repair old ass boilers that it turns into a nightmare and the cost gets out of control way too fast and the customer is always pissed at the end
>>2967693Comparing a third world village to an expensive mcmansion in Arizona isn't the same thing
>>2967695>implying a soulless mcmansion in an location thats incompatible human biological function is superior lollmfao even
>>2967693idk to what extent this would be effective, but the contracting model in the US feels like it's pulling taffy. The people doing the actual work make less and less while the companies that sub them out take more and more. It doesn't matter if you're a skilled installer or an illegal migrant. Homeowners and general contractors love to play games with the installers then wonder why they don't get repeat work and can't find good help.
>>2967698I have no idea wtf you're saying, Mahmet
>>2967700The reason is that those are usually government contracts with the state and more akin to money laundering through construction. Your local representative probably owns one of the businesses or supply chains involved in the construction
>>2967645I've never dealt with new construction, but it's not uncommon for sellers these days to offer a one year warranty through a third party. Good luck getting those turbo jews to pay out, though.
>>2967619Theres also that turk in australia who makes home inspectionnon-compliant
>>2967547>that has skilled labor shortage. There is no such thing lol
>>2967705Basically, building houses doesn't make money, but selling all the materials to yourself to build a house and putting it on a sucker's bill? Priceless.
>>2967693>it is the norm of building a house here. just a few 100 meters away from where i grew up is a factory that builds housed either in elementes or sections. That's just pre-fab housing; plenty of that in the States. It's fine if you're just going to truck in sections, plop them on a foundation and bolt it all together. If you want something custom built to your own specifications, you're going to need a contractor to do it. Some contractors have all the trades under one roof, some just act as generals and herd the various subs for you.
>>2967506part of what matketing? the one trying to sell you shotty houses?
>>2967529>DEM ILLEEEEEGALSyou realize the investor and the contractor are both managed by locals and not illegals, right?but it's okay to get ripped off by true murrican patriots, fuck yeah!i swear amerifats are the dumbest lowest IQ morons on that planet
>>2967785It's "shoddy" not "shotty" ESLboy>>2967787Are you intentionally missing the point to troll or are you legitimately stupid? Illegals do shoddy work, and do not have any right to be here doing shoddy work and soaking up benefits money, so while people who hire them deserve punishment, the illegals are not some total non-issue like people like you make them out to be.
>>2967806i still fail to understand the pride in you fat retads of knowing only one languageand yes - you are being ripped off by legal americans, that are supposed to supervise and train their workers and you are perfectly fine with that, because you are fat retards living in a bubble full of fat retards, where knowing only one language is an epic flex
>>2967812All I can hear is someone screaming 'do no redeems' over and over.Fuck illegals and the people that hire them. Simple as
>>2967813so fuck illegals and americansI'm glad we finally both agree on the topic
>>2967812I speak 3 and all of them better than you can write in English you smug jeet faggot.
>>2967857english, british and australian i assume?
>>2967812there's no reason for anyone to learn spanish because there's nothing to learn FROM or IN spanish. you people are terrible at math and science and never really invented any thing or idea worth talking aboutEnglish is the language of intelligent people.
>>2967688>>2967693There are. In the US we call them builders. The builder works with all of the contractors and spares the homeowner the conversations, the time, and the stress. Now add at least 10% to the total price of your house.
>>2967910still not the same, even you mentioned contractors. thats a thing that doesnt exist here, if you hire a builder he does the concrete slab, the framing, the drywall, the roof, everything. he doesnt hire a bunch of """contractors""" aka mexicans or in our case poles and lithuanians to do it for him no its part of his job and he does it himself.
>>2967900i wish i knew spanish but i don't keep seething at them tho, you entitled morons are hilarious
>>2967506If you don't have a trusted and credible home inspector as part of your home-buying toolkit, you should stick to renting.
>>2967506Brother in law is a fire inspector and does a lot of prebuilt condos. He says once they get enough units sold to start development they do the bare minimum that they need to by law and use the cheapest shit. So it's clickbait like all youtube but just barely. Also no wonder why speculators are backing out of condo development since no one wants to pay 500k to live in a shitty rundown place.
>>2967694I mean I get it but the fix was relatively simple and I was able to figure it out with my pops after considerable googling on how hydronics systems work. The guy was like "aww shucks even the valve won't turn easy" on the expansion tank water inlet. He wouldn't touch it. I even offered him cash to come back outside company time no liability if he was able to get it to work. He refused.
>>2967812I fail to understand the pride in third worlders knowing some irrelevant dirt language in which no great works are written>bro I can talk to retarded mud hut slaves in their language I have community bro!!nobody gives a fuck.
>>2968516This, why the fuck would I waste my time? Anyone intelligent and with drive learns English these days, so it's a great filter for not having to interact with retards.
this guy isn't clickbait. had him inspect my new build home. it was all we could afford in a certain area, so there's no need to argue about why i would buy a house from one of these shitty builders. i wouldn't if i had much of a choice. but it doesn't matter, just because its inexpensive or cookie cutter doesn't mean it shouldn't be to standard. i am in the final stages of their fucking around right now and im looking at a huge paycheck from them because of it. so yes, his $450 inspection was worth it like 200x over. get your house inspected and have it done by someone who actually gives a fuck
>>2968333>I even offered him cash to come back outside company time no liability if he was able to get it to work.doesn't work like that for a licensed contractor...
>>2967966So in your country, the guy who installs the roof also owns the cement truck? He makes the cabinets?
>>2968521>doesn't work like that for a licensed contractor...Sure it does lmao. As long as you're on good terms with family/friends. Obviously, if you ruin something they could still sue your ass. Not sure how it works with bond/insurance if there's no paper trail, though.
>>2967506Honestly I'm glad I saw this and would want to hire them or a better inspector than I had when I bought my house
>>2968565I'm in San Jose, CA and I've worked with guys and we did under house foundation repair and pouring cement, to bathroom tile, framing including complex new skylights through existing roof, siding, and one guy would make copy of rotted french doors in one day, from lumber, on the lawn, with table-saw, router and biscuit tool.
>>2967506what the fuck are you asking?
>>2967812This poster is SHIT BROWN
>>2967645>Sup, pt?5 years is absolutely nothing in housing, considering they're meant to last a lifetime+, and any cheap shit, including 2nd hand, has 3 years...
>>2967645>>2972963>Another 5 yearsAnytime you get something fixed, replaced under warranty, this gets renewed for that part; it's the law.
>>2972964I strongly suspect OP is confusing lining with padding. Vast majority of swim wear has lining over the genitals.
>>2967534That guy sucks. He's too scared to expose the builders like that other white guy so he's a mega grifter.
>>2967645Structural elements actually have 10 years warranty, btw
>>2972964>Anytime you get something fixed, replaced under warranty, this gets renewed for that part; it's the law.Anytime you get something *replaced*
>>2971493So the illegals used a bunch of different tools to create shoddy workmanship, that's great, really really great. Tell me, are these tools still functioning?
>>2967656>>2967694>>2968333>>2968521>>2968622All missing the point. Nobody wants to work on old ass boilers because if you fuck up and take the liability by repairing something then your ass is on the line if there is a fire.I had this exact conversation with multiple of my trade school instructors (out in the field talking to mechanical guys they are all monkeys and dgaf) and for residential there is not really a hold harmless kind of agreement or waiver you can sign that will save your ass over a repair that blows up/fails in ten years.
>>2968520I'm going to post five things I have found are always helpful along this same line of thinking that are almost always forgotten.First reappraise the house you live in every 2-3 years. Once you get a comp for insurance you can adjust your coverage and avoid a giant gap if you have a loss. Second shop your insurance after you get that appraisal. Third would be buy filters for your HVAC mechanical in bulk and have a years supply on hand and then change them monthly versus every 3 months, any restriction on your blower motors will burn them out or fry capacitors when your system inevitably is overworked. Fourth would be pay for commercial pest spraying/wasp removal but don't sign a contract, only pay for one time services and find the guys who will do one time service. Five is get a thermal scan of your house, a few hundred dollars will almost always identify leaks where pests and moisture get in plus you can identify places to seal your house where energy escapes. That is what cheap and easy preventive maintenance looks like on some of the potentially most expensive pitfalls look like on a house. If you do that you will be well ahead of the homeowners who are shocked when their house suddenly has five figure bills and they call the guys who will sell you a brand new condensing unit.
