Fusion 360 can:

• Interference Detection (Collision checking)
• ECAD-MCAD Integration (PCB to 3D assembly)
• Form / Sculpt Workspace (T-Splines for organic shapes)
• Kinematic Simulation (Joints and Range of Motion)
• Animation Workspace (Exploded views for patents)
• Mesh Section Sketch (Slicing STLs for reference)
• Motion Links (Gear and mechanical relationships)
• 2D Drawing Workspace (ISO standard technical prints)

Basically stop uding maya or blender for cad.

Yeah man I have been using fusion for 5 years

But I’ve been paying for my own license and using it at work, this year I was like nah I’ll pass after bookeeper was being a bitch and boss kept complaining about petty shit…

So I downloaded free cad and what an absolute nightmare

Can’t extrude unless everything is constrained but every 2 seconds it starts saying over constrained

Then when you turn off auto constraints and start over constraining same issue

Then extruding it you can’t extrude multiple times off one sketch, but you also can’t sketch on a new face by just clicking it

So complex geometries are a no go in free cad right off the bat

You’re limited to what you can sketch and extrude and feature one time

I am using freecad at work too and anything that's more complex than a simple body with some holes in it is almost impossible to make.
I am using it to CNC drill holes into boards. The CAM is even worse than the scetch or part workbench.

CAD software recs? Currently using fusion seven seas discount (tried freecad but holy fuck fuck freecad), looking at plasticity because xnurbs, but people say it's not great for parametric stuff. Mostly doing 3D printing + pcb but I'd like to be able to switch over as I aquire more CNC adjacent equipment

Been using a personal free version of Fusion for a while on and off. Im pretty bad at it, but I can still get some shit done if need be with it. No real complaints except it's always online cloud bs and prone to crashing and freezing. They really need to implement some sanity checking on the fillet and chamfer tools.

I did however get a solidworks for makers license for under $30 last black friday, so much cheaper than a paid personal license of Fusion. Not really used it yet.. The online dashboard bit was cumbersome and retarded. Whatever. Im sure it can handle whatever I need doing with it. I just design simple stuff I need to 3d print or have some manufacture on demand service make.

And by the way I hate the term maker. I can't think of a more gay term.

I have no idea why people here would use maya or blender to do CAD. Thats just fucking retarded. If you guys are capable of obtaining those progz you can obtain cad too. No excuses really.

Same reason people do FEM and all kinds of other crazy shit in excel: they have it and they're familiar with it, so it looks easier to them to repurpose the unsuitable tool vs getting and learning the proper one.

Autodesk can suck my fat white cock, hundreds more dollars for plastic toolkits and hundreds more for cam.

In mad about the gouging I'm fine paying regular price if the product wasn't locked behind macrotransactions.

It really sucks that f360 is truly the best, most user friendly cad software while also being insanely anti-consumer in about every way. Pretty much the only reason i still have a windows install because everything else available on Linux sucks or is too limited

I'm thinking about getting the $60 Student license for Solidworks so I can learn it. Sadly my school switched to Fusion and let their SW license lapse. I do agree with >>2973789 about how much more user-friendly Fusion is but the lack of industry adoption makes learning it kinda worthless and I feel like I need to master SW, even though in comparison it feels like some shitty open-source software made by one dude.

I didn't even know about the maker license but that's a nice thing to offer too, one thing that really sucks about Fusion is you either get the totally crippled free version or pay like $700 a year for the basic license, which is pretty brutal if you're just doing personal projects or doing small-scale/low margin manufacturing as a side gig.
