Found this just sitting in the corner in the attic of my 1926 house. No idea what it is. When you turn it over it sounds like there is liquid in there. Any ideas? Can I just pitch it?
Is that a heating element? Like something that vaporized a container of liquid? That could be an old bug fumigator.
>>2975348... or even a small space heater.
>>2975341>liquid filled>expansion chamber >differential coilgot to be done type of thermostat. probably mercury filledis it really heavy for its size?
>>2975353Yes, fairly heavy I'd say.

>>2975372definitely some sort of displacement switch. movement of the internal bellows changes the volume which effects the level in the upper chamber with the coil. maybe related to a boiler water level control system from long ago. just a wag
Not OP but a similar question. This is some kind of ground clamp I found in a barn. What kind, like what did it go to, and what is the body made out of? Is it Brass or Bronze? If so, how can I tell them apart? If not, what else could it be? It is not steel, iron, copper, or aluminum. Non-magnetic, no rust, hard, and heavy.
>>2975541Looks like a pipe cutter, but I can't see if it has a cutting wheel from this angle.
>>2975585It is not a pipe cutter. It the picture of >>2975541 the little stub pointing towered the bottom of the image is copper wire that has been cut.

>>2975341looks like a fogger heating element.
>>2975541Paint can closer.
>>2975541>>2975595>>2975596Maybe a ground for an arc welder
>>2975931Huh. Yeah, that seems like the most obvious use case. Most of the ones I have seen are the spring clamp variety. Even really old ones. But it does line up. I'm guessing it is made of some type of bronze then. Man this would be a pain in the ass to screw and unscrew every time you changed pieces. Maybe it was expected to clamp it to a table and leave it?
>>2975985the spring ones are trash if you do any amount of serious work. they get hot as fuck and pop off at inconvenient times. plus new inverter welders start the arc with a voltage pop that arvs on weak clamps and breaks the circuit leading to a shiity weld start
>>2975372Is that threaded part for a fuse or a lightbulb? What does the bottom of the bottom part look like
>>2975596>>2975595Looks to be some kind of old staker or crimper for electrical ends.
>>2975341I found this on Yandex.
>>2976141That's just an LC tank circuit with no rectifier - a cool circuit but pointless on its own like that
>>2976141>>2976653Yes but with the coil, he may be on to something. It could be some sort of matching coil for Shortwave/Amateur Radio/Police/Fire/AM/FMPeople still make these diy/commercialAlso it could be a little heater thing but it cant get too hot because it would melt the solder connections. But also looks like a mica sheet insulator. Maybe low heat to keep condensation out of attic?
>>2975341>there is liquid in there.Probably just loads of benzene.
>>2975341That's an adrenochrome collection device Pop it open and drink the magic potion inside
>>2975341Does it emit heat?
>>2976872>It could be some sort of matching coil for Shortwave/Amateur Radio/Police/Fire/AM/FMThis.Probably for a transmitter. Cap is minrral oil filled for HV.
