nail plate appreciation thread. not recommended uses for nail plates
i put wallpaper or flags on styrofoam panels and attach nail plates onto the wall with the points out so i can just push styrofoam panels into the plates.

I refuse to believe that Americans go into a lifetime of debt and compete with each other to see who can pay more for a shack made of toothpicks and paper mache. That they brag about whose pile of twigs and LITERAL PAPER is bigger. They make their dwellings out of literal fucking paper?There is simply no way I will believe this. I keep hearing about it but I just reject the idea outright, it’s too ridiculous. I can accept many strange and seemingly untrue things about the world but I simply will not accept that Americans are that mindless. It simply isn’t possible to convince a fully grown person of average intelligence that wood and paper that blows away in a strong wind is worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. Someone who could sell that idea would have to be the greatest salesman in the history of our species.

Rafters are built on site by the carpenter, and typically are just nailed together, trusses are engineered in a factory and are stamped together with those plates. It lowers the number of inside walls that bear the weight of the roof and snow on top of it.

The value breakdown was 1/5th for the house and 4/5th for the land. That is why you hear about historic buildings and shit getting moved. The value of the building is chump change compared to the land it sits on. If someone wants to redevelop a property it is worth it to basically give the building away. Even a historic building ain't worth much compared to the land and it saves the hassle of pissing off the locals who might sue to block redevelopment. The new owners than pay for it to be moved. Often times moving the structure costs more than it is worth, which is why it is only done for historic homes. Ain't know one paying money to move a 1980s split-level 3 & 2. It needs to be shit like picture related for anyone to care.
