Are these a meme? Are they ok to live in? Are they meant to last?
Thinking about buying some land and having one of these shipped to me.
How fleeced do you get paying someone else to put it together?
I worked for a guy who built these but I only lasted like 2 weeks on the job before getting hurt so I didn't get to see much of the process.
>>
Yo is this a shitpost? Dont know anytthing about log cabine. Maybe try building it yourself.
>>
Why would you want to build a miniature Bass Pro Shop? Build something that is optimized for the environment you settle in.

>inB4 women wont like it
>>
You cant get fleeced if you build all of it. the wiring the sceptic tank all that shit.
>but
Silent gens built their houses when they got back from wwii

These things come with instructions. However you'll get fleeced anyway. Not for the guy to build it, but the necessary tools. Bonus; your local building permits.

rural areas (in some places at least) don't have any enforced building codes
here only electrical and plumbing has code I believe, as long as you aren't in any metro counties or specific cities

>Maybe try building it yourself.
You need a bunch of tools.
When I worked for the guy he had his own manual crane thing to lift the logs once we started getting up high enough. That shit couldn't have been cheap.

After googling some more apparently these count as a "manufactured house" and only last around 50 years and then the wood starts rotting. So that's kind of a bummer. I figured they would be more durable than the drywall and vinyl thing just because they look old timey.

If you want to feel like you live inside something as sturdy as a bank vault, log cabins do it. It won't protect you from nature, as bears do not respect the pristine condition of your doors and windows. Logs are good as noise insulation if you find yourself closer to the highway than you would prefer, but they don't really keep the cold out. Lumber will eventually be a home for termites; You will need a good annual contract to coat the home with protective substances and be inspected. Of course you can say that about most normal wood frame homes. If you want a place that is catnip for vacation renters, it's hard to do better than a log cabin, but it means you pretty much don't get to live there.

Wood lasts indefinitely if kept dry, build the roof with large overhangs and the structure with a tall stone foundation and it'll easily outlive you

Did Lincoln have a crane when built his log cabin when he was born?

Smaller logs. Smaller houses. Smaller furniture. No electricity or indoor plumbing.

ngl building a log cabin as a baby is hardcore

there are very few things in the world you will get fleeced harder on than having someone else build a house for you...ESPECIALLY if its a log cabin
>>
>>2979251
Mother fuckers will build you something horrendous like this and fill the gaps with mud because it takes half the materials and half the time than scribing and fitting the logs together properly.

These aren't very much at all like traditional log cabins. They would have huge gaps between the logs you'd have to stuff mud into every fall and knock it out every summer, and deal with bugs all the time.

I mean they're fine, I wouldn't want to live like that. They're super heavy and overnight. You n have this outside layer of logs then a layer of insulation and drywall and 2x4 hlframed walls like anything else.

Almost like a British brick facade envelope
>>
they are awesome for cold dry environments. any humidity or constant rain and they suck. that's pretty much it.
>>
>>2979756
Yeah when I first started working for that guy it was the first time I ever used a skill saw, much less the huge one to cut the logs, so all of my cuts were crooked and the logs didn't really fit together. The owner just went behind me filling up all the gaps with this glue stuff with a grim expression on his face.

they are very good to live in but not done in a mcmansion style with american roofing standards. you will get leaks and the logs will rot. buildt it in one stretch with no angles or fancy design elements on the roof.

what about this
>>
Wonder how many that are built now are just normal stick frame buildings with log planes used as siding?
