Do you /DIY/ your own skateboard, bros?
>>
From what I understand they're actually pretty tough to fully DIY, you need a big press and tooling to get the shape in a way that's actually strong enough to hold up. You can buy pressed blanks though.

When I was a kid, skateboards had a front and a rear. Outside of the kicktail, they were flat. Easy to DIY. Getting high quality thin-ply plywood for your own deck is gonna be a pain though. Making it would be even worse.

7-ply crossgrain

I don't think premade ply would cut it, even for an 80's style deck (I remember them having a subtle bowl to the top). I don't think laminating your own would be particularly hard if you had a press & forms ready to go though.

from stuff ive seen, the mold doesnt need to be very precise. people are making serviceable boards out of insultating foam. pressing the first one tonight out of some veneers found on ebay. been trying to get in touch with a place that sells veneers locally but theyve been elusive. trying the basic symmetrical pattern for the proof of concept before getting into old-school deck shapes and experiments. will update when boards are pressed and paint is passed through screens

Back in 1996 I have an extremely fond memory of my Dad painting an amazing Eagle on the bottom of my skateboard.

I made a longboard back in highschool, it sucked but was functional. I’ve kept it for so long because I made it and have good memories of making it to impress a cute girl who longboarded

sick plank woodride/10
>>
yeah I have back in the day, was pretty fun. my mold was just a sheet of plywood with two 2x4 nailed along the sides. I glued veneers, laid them over it and then put another plank down the middle, then put another board on top with cinder blocks

nice, i am working on a flipsky lightning deck,
waiting for a T shaped battery pack to be made (ordered), then ill make an upside down lid for battery compartment looking like: __/'''''\__

also got new engines and VESC, + shit like foot "bindings".. recently ordered 5mm foam pad and grip tape + a 5mm thick formable plastic pad for doing a custom dampening pad, (foam, plastic pad, griptape)

will post an YT vid once this monster is done.

i aim for longer range than any other board, and at higher speeds than anything you can find on the market.. donor is a broken bioboard with herring bone gear drive, the engines are still not enough for my taste (and are broken), but i realized that i could use larger engines by flipping the mounts outwards.. deck and enclosure is also broken, same with control panel.. that's why the new neck. :D

i ran from cops at mac-fuck and fucked up a turn, starfished// cartwheeled down a mountainside and luckily that made them lose me. battery pack took the force but it somehow destroyed all engines+ controller as well, i was prob going at 56mph (max speed)..

big power is fun, it allows you to power slide and do hill bombs on flat ground, i live in norway so the roads rly formed the way i ride.. and at times fly.

So I am sure this has been said but the OG boards were really just boards, that developed into cruisers.
The modern standard board you are thinking of is the most developed and requires the most steps to make.
The short version is good ply wood and shit tone of steam with a big press.
